MNF - Saints at Panthers

I don't often bash announcers

Panthers do the halfback option with McCaffrey for the TD.

Saints completely suckered, beautiful.

Well, there are stiff arms to keep a player away from you, and then there's driving your hand into a guy's face mask.

I thought it was the right call. Both ways.

Rams and Saints appear to be having the end of season the 2008 Giants had. Teams look tired. Doesn’t bode well for the playoffs.

Over 50 years of watching football and never saw an offensive player called for stiff arm to the face. I've seen it weekly and never called. It should be called and could not understand why it was illegal on defense to put a hand on a facemask but legal for the offense.

Its the pyschological effect of being down two scores vs three scores. Generally a team that goes down three scores at halftime is demoralized completely.

Feeling like all 3 of Witten, Boog, and Cam Newton have a low football IQ? First of all, getting up on the ball and clocking it with a full minute to play? And Witten was screaming to clock it as well? I mean all you needed was another 30 yards to kick a field goal and tie it, just run your offense and try to move the sticks. Spiking the ball they lost a critical down and ended up leaving time on the clock anyway. Then on 4th down Boog is yelling that Carolina has to show a sense of urgency... I mean yeah sure but maybe you want to make sure you have the right play called for 4th and 6 considering it could be (and was) your last offensive down of the game? From my perspective I just felt like I could have seen Brady or Rodgers or Ben or even Eli just running their offense and not yet having to worry about spiking it, just take underneath pass after underneath pass and they probably would have had enough time to move the ball inside the 40 (remember Gano hit a 62 yarder against the Giants which would only require the 45 yard line). It just seemed like everyone was rushing things TOO MUCH actually, unnecessarily spiking the ball and wasting a down when you have more than 1:00 to play and only need 20 more yards. It just all seemed mathematically off to me.

It was a one score, 8 point lead, when he threw the int on first down.....the way Rosas is kicking this year, that was an automatic 3 points....

That int took way any momentum we had going into the second half, resulting in only a fg in the fourth quarter....

A turnover in the 2nd quarter when we were up 16 is too much to overcome?

No it is not, however had they scored there (a 1:04 drive), they are up by 19, killed the Eagles good feeling about their late TD and the Giants take back momentum or at least squelch the Eagles'.

Sometimes dep you need to get your own dose of reality. That was a dumbass, inexcusable play, not dissimilar to the one against the Titans (although the wet conditions and a great INT catch made it not quite as foolish.)
THey likely..
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/18/2018 8:23 am : link
would have to get a few yards closer:

(remember Gano hit a 62 yarder against the Giants which would only require the 45 yard line).

Gano wasn't playing last night. It was Chandler Canazaro

lol. I need a dose of reality? This place is just full of people who dont know shit about anything. There has NEVER been an INT in the 2nd quarter that has changed the game or lost the game. Never has nor ever will. FFS, Russell Wilson and Philip Rivers threw the same type of INT in a much closer game that had no bearing. But again, I doubt the people who are even responding to me even watch a game outside the Giants.

of course it was a dumb throw. Where did I say it wasnt? Please quote that before making dumb ass comments. What I said was that it didnt cost us the game nor was it a "game changing pick". It was a bad throw that took points off the board. Nothing more, nothing less.

People here need to learn the fucking game and stop trying to create narratives that arent there.

That int took way any momentum we had going into the second half, resulting in only a fg in the fourth quarter....

Did you ever play a sport? If an INT takes momentum away from your team when there is a 20 minute half AND the defense held the offense to a punt and FG to start the 2nd half - maybe, just maybe our team isnt as good as you thought.

If an INT up 16-3 at the end of the half is the reason a team loses.....then there are bigger problems than the play.

Jesus Christ. This place...

it is a waste of time.

The INT was such a back-breaker that at the end of the game, the Giants tied the score with under a minute to play - and would have taken the lead if they correctly called Beckham being interfered with.

It just furthers the odd narrative that a lot of people hold.

Look at it this way. I've seen Eli blamed for the Carolina loss. a game in which he threw two TD passes in the final 5 minutes to give the team a lead, only to have a 63 yard FG go against us. Not only was his early INT referenced as a reason we lost, but people actually blamed him for scoring too quickly.

With logic like that, he's probably blamed for not being able to tackle Derrick Henry. By the way, I heard a defense giving up 200+ rushing yards played well....

Its funny when you hear players and coaches say one play never wins/loses a game - and thats usually a play that happens at the end of the game... but BBI thinks a play in the 2nd quarter is a game changing/game losing play. Absolutely maddening.

I bet some of these posters absolve Wilsons SB INT more than Eli's throw. Just insanity at this point.

You are right one play does not cost the game, and I never said it did. But to deny that INT didn't change the dynamic of the game is BS. The Eagles finally score, but Eli takes the Giants right back down the field in 1:04 and gets a FG for the final points of the half. You don't think the Eagles go into the locker room shaking their heads? You don't think the Giants feel even better?

Yes the INT did not lose the game, but getting the FG more than likely helps win it.
It changed the dynamic so much

that the Eagles didnt score coming out of the half with all the "momentum".

It was a bad throw and play. Sometimes its that simple.
Does anyone know if Cam is an upper body passer???

How many times did Booger say that last night? I had to turn off the sound at the end.

is truly unbearable - as is Witten.

They say something multiple times a game that makes you either cringe or perk up and say "What the fuck?"

The Panthers had an eternity to get into FG position and those idiots were screaming about having to clock the ball. The Panthers lost a down doing it and then were stuck on 4th down.

It likely cost 3 points, yes that simple.

Great point, they had a bad 1st series. What happened the rest of the half?

They opened the magic box of momentum that the Giants gave them nearly an hour before and used it to their advantage.

and how much did we lose by?

It goes both ways, too. We were dead against Chicago until Rosas hit the 57 yarder before halftime. That changed the energy of the team in the 2nd half.
Yes...
dep026 : 12/18/2018 12:09 pm : link
because every play of the 2nd half would have went the same way. I am sure the eagles would have sat on the ball on the last drive for a FG instead of going for a touchdown.
And yet..

we were so jacked up that the Bears tied the game and sent it to OT.

Their point is right. Rivers' back breaking INT at the end of the half against KC on the road.... gave them no chance to win the game.

Oh wait... that example doesnt fit their story.
