He thinks Manning has year(s) of good football ahead of him.
Read the link......I suppose I don't know what the hell I am watching Link - ( New Window )
He had the excuse of a decimated team due to injuries...this team has been relatively healthy with their starting QB...Stud RB, Beckham until the last 2 weeks. The defense has sucked but not because of injuries and I don't see a player stepping up with the possible exception of Hill or Zo Carter....Bettcher has been unimpressive, and we sit here debating bringing back #21 who can't play a ball over his head.
Not sure where I see a ton of optimism going forward.
His arm is better than ever.
His pocket presence has improved immensely.
His mobility is actually getting better with age.
He’s making quality decisions.
He’s protecting the ball beautifully.
Are we blind?
It's like the cliche don't piss on me and tell me it's raining
I love what Manning has done for this franchise, I have been to both super bowls and they were such highlights in my sports/Giants memories, but I loved Piazza, and David Wright, and for that matter Willis Reed and Walt Frazier, Trottier and Bossy as well...but enough is enough. Please, it is time to move on.
Yankee Stadium to The Yale Bowl and Shea for 1 year before Giants Stadium...Palmer Stadium in Princeton for the annual Eagles pre-season game...Allie Sherman to Alex Webster...Arnsparger to McVay,,,Fassel and the glory years of Parcells and then the nameless one......loved Ron Johnson and yes Pete Athas and Spider Lockhart...my bona fides go way back.......

Now or tomorrow...please every Giant fan owes a debt of gratitude to Manning, but there really is an expiration date on everyone, Eli in the NFL in 2018, particularly the way the Giants are structured, his expiration date is passed, no disrespect at all, just stating what should be obvious to you.
Give him a night, give him a ceremony, damn retire his jersey, but jeez it is enough already
some interim placeholder who has a degree of mobility while we seek out our next long term QB, It is depressing to watch Manning make the same mistakes over and over again

wins the QB gets all the credit, when the team loses the QB takes all the blame.
Eli has not lost a step, he's the same player he was 10 years ago. HE will be back, maybe for 2 more years. They WILL make a run once the infrastructure is fixed.

He’s the best option on the roster now and the best option for next year. We should draft a qb and allow him to learn for one year behind Eli. Guys like foles, teddy, tyrod are all stop gap nothing QBs. All that would do is delay the future progress of this team. Eli will be back and should be back. It’s the right decision

Yup like a fine wine he’s getting better with age.
In spades. Jeeeeeersus. Was one game really that bad?
Personally I would much rather see us continue to build the O line and mass true epic playmakers on D .. vs. "fix" qb for 2019. Use the whole draft for those two jobs. And:
some interim placeholder who has a degree of mobility while we seek out our next long term QB, It is depressing to watch Manning make the same mistakes over and over again
What's the point? Bridgewater or Foles + Eli's dead money will cost more than just keeping Eli next year. We already have a place holder.
Basically, the only choices that make sense are either keeping Eli as the placeholder or cutting him and going with Lauletta next year. Sure, you're giving up 2019, but investing the savings from Manning into other positions in free agency rather than reinvesting them into a different stopgap QB makes so much more sense. Plus, playing Lauletta almost assures us a very high draft pick in 2020, which looks to be a much stronger year for QBs.

It really is that simple.
The Giants are doing everything they can to destroy his legacy Â
wants us to let Eli go so they can grab him up. With me he just says Eli needs a change of scenery but I also think he's been trolling him, so I take a lot of this short selling Eli with a grain of salt. Also there is always the odd "journalist" who just wants to make copy.
What's the point of signing an expensive free agent as a "placeholder?" How are we defining placeholder? Is it someone who plays one season, two, three...? Is the plan that the placeholder is so bad in 2020 or 2021 so as to facilitate the Giants run to a number 1 or 2 pick?
Why not keep Eli if the plan is to continue this "one-more-run" with Eli mantra. If the plan is to take aim at Tua, Fromm, Lawerence, etc. in the coming years, why not just start Lauletta and say goodbye to Eli. Because if the Giants sign a placeholder, they certainly won't be good enough to win a championship, but will likely be good enough to never sniff a top pick.

And Bingo.
See above. Aside from 2011 Eli is the same guy he always was. 2011 was the exception, and a lot of that had to do with his receiving trio of Cruz, Nicks, and Manningham.
He's always been slow afoot, he's always been a little slow to read the field, he's always missed seeing the unexpected 3rd option wide open. He's always been less than the most accurate passer, or the strongest arm...
But every now and then when you need it most he pulls the rabbit out of his helmet and delivers a play of stunning beauty, and brings home the W. If he's changed significantly at all, he gets rid of the ball quicker and makes "live to play another down" decisions more readily than he once did, and he's been coached to do exactly that.
To provide even a shred of data that supports the belief that bridgewater is anything more than an average qb with a brutal injury history. And by average I mean not worth our time.
and decide which one will be the best one to draft a QB. Then simply go pick your franchise QB in that draft.
Simple.
Until then just leave Eli in place and improve the team everywhere else. Afterall, he gives us the best chance at winning anyway based on who is on the roster so no need to change that flawless thinking.
Its really that simple.
Our Front Office should be able to, in short order, pinpoint exactly the college QBs that will be successful at the next level, what year they will come out, and where they will go in the draft. They should do this for as long as Eli wants to keep playing as Shurmur mentioned he has "years" left as a starting QB.
Again...fairly simply.
Then all the Giants have to do is ensure our W-L record puts us in a suitable draft slot to ensure selection of one of those QB targets or offer up the appropriate collateral-package to move into that slot in the given year that it is ideal, in the NY Giants sole view, to finally draft their next guy. Other teams might need QBs as well or may not want we can offer but that's so unlikely its not worth even considering.
So once again, simple.
Don't get caught up in silly details to derail this foolproof strategy. The Giants should have no trouble accomplishing any of the above items as they are in complete control of all variables in this process...
How about a "Lets look at all of this at the end of the year" comment
he's got 1 viable qb on the roster; of course he wants Manning back.
Not sure where I see a ton of optimism going forward.

bw was being sarcastic, I'm almost sure.

Well, Eli wants to be a giant for life, and they get rid of him, the fanbase uproar would be too much for Mara and company. As we've seen

Are you culturally illiterate? Watch a movie.
He said that s an off season decision.
I don’t think the decision has been made yet.
Some of you probably still believe the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

Two weeks ago before he saw sleepy-head, speed racer dodging cops throw a football in a game. Noodle Arm made the decision for him.

Think everyone will stop going to games if the Giants cut Eli?
What the fans won't like, is, if DG/Shurm keep blowing smoke up our ass, with these kind of statements, and THEN they cut him!
Personally I would much rather see us continue to build the O line and mass true epic playmakers on D .. vs. "fix" qb for 2019. Use the whole draft for those two jobs. And:

But at this point in his career - and perhaps Coughlin coming back as coach? - the Jags could put him in a run heavy, play action offense.
