Remember when CC plunked Rays catcher Sucre after Kittredge threw behind Romine's head?
CC got ejected 2 innings from achieving the necessary 155 innings to earn a $500k bonus having only thrown 55 pitches leading 11-0.
Turns out the Yanks paid CC the bonus anyway.
We thought they might do so. Good job by the Yanks to back up their pitcher who backed up his catcher

153 innings last year and a 2.3 WAR - no team in MLB can do better than that for the 5th starter.

Looks like Andjar will be working on defense with Adrin Beltr this winter. Beltr turned into a 5x Gold Glove winner after early defensive struggles in his career.
Yup, and I like how it was paid without any public statement or fanfare. It was only discovered when their final 2018 payroll became public

about done as an effective pitcher. He rarely goes 6 while living on the black. I love his moxie. But it is the clubhouse presence that I think the Yankees are paying for. Yes he goes out there unafraid and competes, rarely gets hit hard. He sort of eats up the pen with his short starts. Hard to judge where he stacks up against other #5s, but I'm happy he gets his last season and gets to go out on his own accord.

Good stuff. Knew the innings, but not the WAR. Think he has the softest contact or close to it in MLB which is why they need to do something on the left side of the infield defensive.

Hope does for Andujar what Martinez did for Sevvy!
I am too and you should be, but if necessary it is at the hips or below. Players understand and accept that(they don't like it.)

According to a source, Carlos Beltran is expected to join the Yankees as a special advisor to GM Brian Cashman. Beltran was repped by Dan Lozano of MVP Sports Group, who also reps Manny Machado. Will be interesting to see if Beltran is part of the Machado recruiting process.

Didn't the Yankees consider Beltran for the Manager role as well before they picked Boone? Yankees also have a habit of keeping potential future managers in these advisory capacities to reach out to when needed.
He will play SS until Didi gets back, then he moves to 3rd base where he is a star.
I doubt they pull an ARod and move Didi to 3rd base.
Question is what happens to Andujar...

if the Yankees sign Machado and play him as a SS? Just curious.

I sincerely hope you're right, but if they sign him for $300 mm on the understanding that he's gonna play SS, guess what....he's gonna stay at SS when Didi gets back and Didi will probably DH and spell him on occasion.
I could be wrong, but I think signing Machado means Didi gets a QO for 2020 and whatever happens, happens - especially if Machado plays SS at an all star level.
Defensively? I expect the bat to be better, obviously.
BTW, I just read RAB and he is very pessimistic at them signing Manny. Says the numbers don't add up, but weirdly, Mike sort of thinks signing Happ means they are not signing Machado. He puts $$ up. I don't see the correlation. Thing is Cash said they were getting two SPs and 2 RPs. Mike is butthurt over Corbin, FWIW. However, they still need the RPs and I think he is right that one of Robertson, Ottavino or Miller will be signed. He then expects a lesser signing. Personally, I'd be very worried about Miller and his health at 34 y/o.
FWIW, I think the Yanks will regret not getting Machado if they pass on him. I know the bill will be coming due on Judge, Sevy, Sanchez, Hicks and some others soon. But not winning the World Series would suck because they did not finish off the build.
It took this long to come out, not for him to actually get it.

that said, there's a chance (not a remote one) that Machado turns in a better 2019 as a Yankee shortstop than Didi did in 2018.

I am also pissed about Corbin because I'm a believer, but am happy to be wrong :)

I am semi-disappointed, but thought they passed because they needed money elsewhere, hopefully Manny. I'm sure they had a number and I find it hard to believe the sixth year was the reason, because he would still have been younger than Happ is today. I think they felt adding the sixth year would mean a bidding war and they chose not to participate.
Hal's just not gonna do it....he's interested in maximizing the short term profit of the club above all else.
"Bill Livesey is one of the greatest scouts of our era. He told me the best amateur position player he ever saw was A-Rod. The best amateur pitcher he ever saw was Brien Taylor." -- Brian Cashman
"His arm slot was exactly like Randy Johnson's, not sidearm but very low three-quarters. They had the same exact arm slot, only Brien Taylor threw a little bit harder." - Gene Michael

Agree with this on Hal's MO. The only new variable is the Yankees will take back control of the YES Network in the short term based on some clause with Fox and if the NYY bean counters project the revenue gain from YES Network viewer increase will outweigh some luxury tax dollars post reset, Hal will sign off on it.
