...I'm biased because I personally know this young man, but I
believe this CBS video interview with him and his wife (and subsequent commentary)
is about as good an outcome as one could hope for given the circumstances.
Life isn’t fair. Never heard a bad word about him before or since. And for those who say it’s unforgivable what he did you are entitled to that opinion. I’d answer that all of us hace done shitty things. Getting it on film doomed him sadly

Whether he deserves a 2nd chance or not is another question, but while I've done some "shitty things", I've never sucker punched a woman (or man).
He deserved the punishment he received and unfortunately for him, he was the really the guinea pig on how the NFL would handle such situations moving forward.
No defending what Rice did, but the NFL fucked this up royally and was more worried about PR. Sad thing is you see Joe Mixon out there on Sundays and he did the same thing that was on tape for all to see.
RE: Huge life lesson that you don’t get second chances Â

He got a second change on life and that's enough. He never had a right to make millions playing a game so I don't feel bad for him one bit. When you uppercut and KO a woman, my respect for you no longer exists.
I'm glad he's been able to move on and have a life, hopefully others will learn from it. But that's about it.
but he knocked her out and dragged her out of the elevator. I mean, who the fuck does that? You knock a woman out, you are supposed to immediately regret it, call for help, try and revive her. That's what did him in, his lack of empathy at the time.
...you'll see that no one is "defending" or trying to justify what Ray Rice did. Not Ray, not his wife, Janay, nor the commentators.
What happened was a very ugly incident in their lives, but if you believe in second chances, this video seems to suggest that the couple have made the best out of a bad situation.
As a side note, Ray Rice has been an assistant coach for his high school alma mater, New Rochelle.
he isn’t in prison. So I’m not really sure what else there is to it as far as “believing in second chances”. He was on his way out as a player before this incident, so his career wasn’t really sacrificed, IMO.

You're spot on.. Ray Rice should be happy he didn't have to go to jail or be put on probation for 5 years.. That's his second chance. I'm sure he's a nice guy 99% of the time.. but he fucked up and deserves to pay a price for it. I feel 0 sympathy for the man. Hopefully he learned from it and doesn't knock his girl out next time she pisses him off.
Why is the fact that it was a woman so important? Â
He is an outstanding man and talent who made a mistake and apologized sincerely. I understand it he has not had any prior or subsequent events, and the victim has made a full recovery. Ray has served his punishment and should be able to the same opportunities as any man of equal talents.

Neither have I. I just find most people are hypocrits. Is hitting someone worse than stealing? Cheating on a spouse? Driving drunk? Congrats on your perfection.

That’s apples to oranges to donuts. No one is perfect but what’s the point of this post? He knocked a woman out and dragged her out of an elevator (something we’d all go to prison for). If he cheated on his wife then they would get divorced like most people who experience infidelity. If he injured someone drunk driving he’d go to prison (we would) or if he just got caught driving intoxicated he’d still face reprocussions.
Thinking he’s a piece of shit for what he did doesn’t make me perfect, it makes him a piece of shit.
Michael Vick did the time and got a second chance Â
but kudos to him for doing the right thing, repairing his marriage and owning his major mistake trying to help others avoid falling into a similar fate

Well obviously.... but he knocked her out and didn't seem to give a fuck.

You don’t see why it matters that he hit a woman vs a man? Yes it’s assault either way but you actually see no difference?
Exactly!
Look at the body language. He was not dealing with a loved one, rather an inconvenient object to be discarded without a second thought.
The wife is lucky to NJ e alive today.
