who do you want back on defense?

peteschweaty : 12/30/2018 4:55 pm
cause...i really can't say.
Chandler and Curtis Riley for sure
Vanzetti : 12/30/2018 4:57 pm : link
Chandler's coverage skills and Riley's ferocious hitting are hard to replace.
B.J. Hill, Beal
SHO'NUFF : 12/30/2018 4:57 pm : link
maybe Collins if the price is right.
Short list.
PetesHereNow : 12/30/2018 4:58 pm : link
Hill, Tomlinson, Carter, Davis, Ogletree, maybe Collins if reasonable.
Goodson
mrvax : 12/30/2018 4:59 pm : link
seems to be getting better.
Riley
LeftHook : 12/30/2018 5:00 pm : link

I'd like Jenkins back. I think they'll have trouble replacing him.

The Giants defense can’t make critical plays. The guys who are paid to step up in game changing situations (Vernon) can’t. The defense has no playmakers... any of these clowns can be replaced.
Ogletree stinks
arniefez : 12/30/2018 5:19 pm : link
He’s horrible.
Can’t cut ‘em all

The real question is who do you not bring back. I’m getting rid of OV without any hesitation. Yeah, I’m keeping the Jackrabbit because he’s fine if there’s a pass rush. I’m franchising Collins because, why fucking not? We really need a playmaker from the draft because right now we have a lot of JAGs and a few decent players but no one who can really turn a game around.
Everyone

Because they are just fine
only a few seem to be absloute no's

Have to make some kind of argument for Stupar & Riley
Riley actually has made some
bc4life : 12/30/2018 5:25 pm : link
huge hits this season. but has missed a lot of tackles, covers like a swiss chese blanket. and the play today - wtf?
Like Vernon
bc4life : 12/30/2018 5:26 pm : link
has played well in spots, but not equal to the contract
LT, Banks and Carson.

Add Jackrabbit, Haley, Goodson, McIntosh and Mauro.
Addition by subtraction

Don't want to see Webb. Plain stinks. Riley is bad and his attempt at a tackle or lack of on Dallas TE TD today speaks volumes. Barwin needs to go.
I'm having trouble not hating all of them right now...
x meadowlander : 12/30/2018 5:36 pm : link
...blown 2-minute leads against Dallas at home are as mortal a fucking sin as a Giant defense can commit.

Ask again at draft time.
I've been banging the table to move on from OV.
Diver_Down : 12/30/2018 5:42 pm : link
His production is not commensurate with his contract. But releasing him creates another hole to fill on a team that has more holes than can be patched. He has no roster bonus that forces our decision on him in the short term. I hold on to him and approach him to restructure. He can keep all the money that is coming to him, but he has to earn it. I would attach a $100K game day RB. If he plays all 16 games, then he makes $1.6M. Attach incentives based on his sack production. 8 sacks - $500K; 12 sacks - $1M; 15 sacks - $1.5M and so on. Fumbles, interceptions, etc. tack in on. But the restructure would lower his salary to $10M. If he wants his $15M, then earn it.

If he doesn't agree to a restructure, then we try and trade him. 3rd rounder? If we can't get a pick, then just eat the $8M in dead money and wish him well.
Vernon

Vernon is a disappointment but our best pass rusher. The giants should try to keep him at fair value.
Vernon's market will be weak
DavidinBMNY : 1/4/2019 6:44 am : link
Probably in the 4-8 million range. I don't see why a team would trade for him.

He has to accept a salary cut to stick and accept incentives to make some of his salary.

He is not making anywhere close to what he is making now elsewhere in the league.

i'm onboard with this, if you take away his 3 interceptions he had just about as bad a year as a LB can have. He cant tackle and he cant cover
