Just scattershooting

Rick in Dallas : 1/1/2019 7:53 am
What if Easy E decides to retire this offseason and the Giants go and sign Joe Flacco to a friendly 3 year deal. He is 33 years old and has the same personality as Easy E in handling the NY media.
Then in the 2019 draft, Giants draft ER in first round and best OL in the second round.
Then in 2020 Giants draft their next franchise QB to sit under tutelage of Flacco.
Just scattershooting!!!!!
Flacco has three

years left at $26, $28 and $24 mill per..
Most of my Raven fan friends say
bradshaw44 : 1/1/2019 8:08 am : link
Flacco is looked at as a poor mans Eli. This place would lose its mind.
How do..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/1/2019 8:10 am : link
you sign a guy making more $$ to a "friendly deal", especially when he's still under contract?

Scattershooting is one way to put it
I know the Ravens have

won some huge games under Flacco but I would take a pass. The Giants have skill set players beyond getting a QB to just manage the game. They need a real QB with what they already have.

The Giants have some kind of plan if Eli decides to retire this year. I have a feeling they don't.
Yes

where do I sign?
Joe Flacco?
FStubbs : 1/1/2019 8:33 am : link
I'd rather bring Eli back and extend him another year than deal with Flacco.

Yes, agree they are completely stupid and didn't ever think that Eli could retire this offseason. Terps isn't in the FO, so no way they could be prepared.

Of course it doesn't mean anyone would like what they would have to do. Nor does it mean there is a palatable course of action.

When the Ravens cut him, no team will pay him the kind of money he has on his contract. To be fair to Flacco he has never had weapons like NY has and with a Saquan Barkley would be a good fit. Still has one of the strongest arms in the NFL.
Sign Foles to a 3 year deal

Or sign Tyrod Taylor for a year and draft a QB. Or sign anyone to a 1 year deal and draft a QB next year. Basically anything but committing to anyone other than a rookie for longer than 2019 season.
I don’t see Eli retiring this season.

Think he wants to play out his contract then see what offers might come his way. Padding stats for HOF.

Or he simply wants to play. He’s already going to the hall, he’s trying to win again.

I don't want Tyrod Taylor anywhere near my team. I'd go with Lauletta or a rookie before Tyrod.
No

One want Teddy anymore? I would take the Panthers backup guy over him at the moment.

This has been my thought all month long..
When Giants passed on Darnold
joeinpa : 1/1/2019 11:27 am : link
They stated they felt Eli had years left; they also said they had a succession plan in place for a quarterback.

Pretty obvious to me that part of that plan would be Eli as the quarterback in 2019

An unlikely retirement by Eli would derail that plan, but replacing him with Flacco Would be a pretty unpopular move in my opinion.
Idea of Paying Starter QB Money for
clatterbuck : 1/1/2019 11:37 am : link
less capable player just because his name isn't Eli Manning remains a mystery to me. Flacco, Bridgewater, etc as stopgaps would likely eat up just as much cap space with likely less production. There is ample evidence Manning can still play well. His durabality is legendary. Teammates love him. He is the logical and best option to help the Giants transition to the next era. Address the obvious OL issues and he can still win.

That would be colossally stupid.
Ravens should keep Flacco, Jackson is a one trick pony, the only
SterlingArcher : 1/1/2019 3:31 pm : link
thing saving him right now is his running. Defensive coordinators will scheme to shut down, look what happened to BobIII and Colon Crap-O-Pick!
If Eli does retire
DavidinBMNY : 1/2/2019 2:40 pm : link
I think what they will do is sign a veteran, for less then Eli currently makes. And that person would be a potential starter and push Lauletta who doesn't look NFL ready. They could also draft a QB and as such they shouldn't go all out crazy on the QB in FA.

I think he is going to retire BTW. Why come back to this? The roster isn't where it needs to be, it's still one more year of building and then his contract is up.

I walk if I'm Eli.

I think all bets are off. Its going to be hard for me to hold them to anything said last offseason. This season clearly didnt go as planned, their plans may (hopefully) change. Whatever DG or Shurmur say I'm taking with a grain of salt.
Part of why the Ravens went a different direction than Flacco
Ten Ton Hammer : 1/2/2019 2:49 pm : link
is they felt he wasn't fully committed in terms of effort or energy.

That's not someone you want anyone near your QB1 situation.
