QB possibilities after 1st Round

bc4life : 1/1/2019 4:36 pm
Based on a lot of talk from experts, some on this site, I suspect we aren't taking QB at # 5. But, it's reasonable to think it a possibility, if not a probability, in later rounds.

Draftniks or others - which QBs should Giants consider from Round 2 on?
None of em

Whereas there are certainly the Brady's of the world, qb, to me, is a 2020 project.

If anything I'd be packaging the late rounders to get additional second rounders for D. Making D the focus of 1,2,2,4a...then center 4b etc.
I am willing to bet we dont take anyone at 5
superspynyg : 1/1/2019 4:46 pm : link
At 6 is another story.
I love Will Grier
GiantGrit : 1/1/2019 4:52 pm : link
Who looks like late first, probable second round pick. Less arm talent than the other guys, but he is mentally much farther along. Elite ball placement.

Gardner Minshew, Washington State quarterback had a really nice year. Grad transfer from ECU who was actually committed to being a back up at Alabama. Leach got him and the rest was history. Similar build to Baker Mayfield - 6'1 to 6'2 but a very stocky build. Good arm, not great. Needs to clean up his footwork, he gets skittish with pressure.

Both guys already manipulate defenses with their eyes and pump fakes.

Lots of avenues they can go. Some will freak out if they don't pick a quarterback again, but building the trenches and waiting a year also makes sense.
If I could get Grier, Haskins, or Jones in the 2nd round I'd take
PatersonPlank : 1/1/2019 4:56 pm : link
any of them
Damn Haskins has 70 something

Completion percentage and has 40 touchdowns to like 8 interceptions. Thatís insane. Iím always worrried about Urban QBs coming out of that spread system.

Clayton Thorson in the 4th round. His medical exam will be critical, but he can sling it, and he is a tough mother.
Anybody got a free stream to this game?

There are times where I really like him. Some mobility, tough in the pocket, decent arm.

But his production is very unimpressive for a senior, and for his career. And I think that's a major knock.

Not anymore.....plenty of QBs coming out with spread systems have success in the NFL. It may take time to get accustomed to the NFL and different scheme, but if they have the athleticism and skill, then they should be capable of playing in most systems. All-star games should also show what these guys can do in pro-style systems.
Brett Rypien of Boise State is my sleeper QB
Anakim : 1/1/2019 5:32 pm : link
I REALLY liked what I saw from him. I actually think he's a better prospect than Will Grier.

I know a lot of people in the scouting community like Easton Stick, but I've never seen him play
Lauletta needs at more time

No qb's should be considered until an olineman, dlineman, LB,

or CB have been taken.

Stick is interesting. I've seen him play about 4X the last two years off and on. A very aggressive runner out of the pocket who is fearless taking on tacklers. Almost to the point of being reckless. Seems to have a nice arm and some accuracy. But NDSU overwhelms a lot of their opponents so he has some fairly straightforward throws.

Yes, his nephew.
Haven't we had enough of these later round QB?
Red Dog : 1/1/2019 6:56 pm : link
Other than Hostetler, who was a 3erd rounder, they have not had a productive QB pick after the first round since I have been a GIANTS fan and that started in 1955. That's one - count it, ONE - worthwhile QB after round one in more than 60 years!

Lauletta is just the latest wasted NYG QB pick after the first round.

I disagree.....
Doomster : 1/1/2019 9:47 pm : link
I want all in on the OL at C, RG, rt.....we can be a more ball control offense with Barkley behind a legitimate OL....keep the offense on the field and the defense off.....and of course, we must score more.....If the plan is one more year with Eli, then it's almost essential to fix the OL....A legit line together for a whole season, will make it easier on a future rookie qb....
Drew Lock

seems like he'd be a great fit in a shurmur offense. Surprised he hasn't been mentioned.

The idea that well take a QB who fits most into Pat freaking Shurmur's offense is so depressing.

Yup, and how that can possibly be in a 5-11 season when our starter is about to be 38 years old... It's tough to accept.
Drew Lock will be a 1st round pick almost surely.
BlueLou'sBack : 1/2/2019 12:33 am : link
So he doesn't fit the OP.
It will be easier to determine after the off-season FA pickups but

What I would do is entertain quite a lot of trade offers for more/higher picks in 2020.

The QB from Oklahoma State I want to see more of. Only one year as a starter concerns me especially since Big 12 not exactly known for stellar defenses. That being said, if Eli Manning returns I do not see the Giants forcing a rookie to play in 2019.

This! If DG believes Haskins or Jones is a no brainer at #6 (Yes Jones, his ability to shine on a Duke team that had minimal talent around him along w/his Cutliffe/Manning ties), I think he makes the move. Makes no sense to use up Saquon's best years & not bring in our next QB. Ideally, Eli starts (similar to Warner/Eli) next season, helping groom the future QB before turing the keys over!

Has a lot of interesting physical attributes with his size, arm, and sneaky athleticism.

But man is he unpredictable. He can get very hot or he can be ice cold. Iíve seen games where he couldnít throw it in the ocean if he was strolling down the beach. But then there are the games where he gets hot and looks like a real QB prospect (see his WV and TX games). So that wide range of reliability make him a project at best...

After the first round he probably has the biggest upside of any QB in this draft, but his floor is also significantly lower.

Drew Lock is far from a....lock (sorry, I know) to go rd1. There aren't a ton of teams who need to draft a qb in round 1 and he isn't even a consensus top 3. Very possible he's there early round 2.
