I thought I'd start a new thread for this game since I'm sure a lot of us want to see Haskins. Also, The Snake is 'retiring' after this game to teach leadership courses in Columbus.
but how do you evaluate this guy? Sy! What is your take?
I still have a ways to go on evaluating Haskins. QBs require extra work and I usually wait until after the season is over.
My initial gut reaction: Not a top 10 guy. But yes, a guy you can win with. And to some people, that warrants top 10 because of the position. I just think there is so much raw-ness to him. Occasional sloppiness. Inconsistent lower body mechanics. And I need to get some more background info on him (intangibles/passion/leadership)
For me, I'm merely pointing out how comfortable he has it in that OSU offense. Thus, it's hard to say how much is their success the scheme and how much is Haskins.
Albeit not as talented, look at JD Barrett's stats last year for OSU. They were tremendous, and he was considered a long shot NFL prospect.

I think the Giants should be moving towards an offense that features Barkley as the Rams did Marshall Faulk.
I think those attributes could be well suited, like Kurt Warner, for that type of offense

Barkley is going to be a great offensive player for us for many years to come, but what current modern NFL team is successful with just an RB. We need a lethal passing game to go along with it. A QB with semi mobility would be nice as well.
has done a very good job reading the coverages, and looking off safeties. Of course, he has enormous amounts of time to do so, but it's still noteworthy.
Because your bullshit is boring at this point. What me and bw have said about Haskins is the same thing we have said all year about him. This game is nothing different from the year.
No grow up and get a fucking life. Must suck to be this miserable all the time.
And if you think me and bw agree on anything other than this than your dumber than I thought.
He is 39. He has 1 year left on his contract. These are facts. We will have to move on
Why can’t people get Eli’s age correct. He turns 38 this week. Why do you say he is 39? Even in the offseason and during the season we had Giants fans saying he’s 38, 39 years old. Even beat writers - Matt Lombardo - stated that before Christmas Eli was 38. I don’t know why this is so hard for people to grasp. And I’m not even the staunchest Eli supporter.
Haskins looks good - I'm very interested in seeing how he fares Â
in the private workouts and combine. Thats where the rubber really meets the road. Any questions on mechanics, accuracy, etc. will be flushed out then, and thats when you see guys rise and/or fall.
I like the Duke guy too though. In my dreams we can get one of them in the 2nd.

You are not getting one of them in the second, so stop with the nonsense. It's likely neither falls out of the top 10. Haskins is probably going top 5. I can't stop you from dreaming, but the Giants are not getting Haskins in the second.
You people are all waiting for the perfect prospect. Sy - he's going top 10 - you can lock that in.
He may not be perfect, he may not have started 50 games in college. But he throws accurately at all levels, has mobility, and works through progressions. So he has to work on some things and is not a finished product. That means you pass on him? That is a ridiculous evaluation method. Every prospect has something to work on.

If he comes out, I agree he is going top 10.
Question is, do I think I can get a better prospect later? Next year? It's not just about being worthy or not. It's about, do you like someone better?

Yes, the ENTIRE year.
I'm not kidding when I say I think nearly every QB in the big five conferences could have been very effective and productive in that OSU offense.

But I thought Lock did as well yesterday.
In an exceedingly better conference, very well. I think he was 30/8 at 65% completion.
His last five games were superb.
It’s very possible that we draft someone this year and they sit until Eli himself retires of his own will.
Every Giants fan should be interested in potential QBs at this point. It’s not a zero sum game.
Some of you guys came into this thread simply to tear down Haskins.
Sit back and just watch the game, see what you see.
There are 4 months to go before the draft, Haskins May or may not prove to be a viable draft pick at that slot.

We shall see what happens in the combine and such.
I think Lock will end up being in top half if not top 10of Draft.

That skipper in the ground on a roll out reminded me of McNabb.
Agreed. I like him, but not at #6.

Same. I really want Lawrence, Tua, or Fromm in the coming years.
Yet you were the one coming on here bashing people with your Eli brigade bullshit.

If it means he's our QB for 15 plus years, sign me up.
He dose show some pocket awareness.

He has shown an ability to move around in pocket as well and feel some presssure
His deep ball and throw on the run seem iffy so far

For Lawrence. He's going to be a franchise guy for a long time.

Giants will probably not be that high. And just because you want to trade up doesn’t mean the team with those picks does.
If the Giants go say 7-9 next year, you end up in the teens as a pick and a trade to 1 is near impossible.
The Giants have a shot to go QB this year, but we don’t know if anyone is worthy.
If they don’t go QB for whatever reason, then they will likely have to get lucky - lower pick, FA or trade.

2) He can take on a lot of contact. He is a sturdy physical presence. Not a plus athlete but he can keep plays alive.

When you start ripping Sy in your first month... maybe we need a stronger vetting process
