I thought I'd start a new thread for this game since I'm sure a lot of us want to see Haskins. Also, The Snake is 'retiring' after this game to teach leadership courses in Columbus.
But that 30 3 score wasn't indicative of this ND team. A lot went wrong late in the 2nd quarter. Not saying they're up there with Clemson (obviously) or Bama, but they're a top team.
between those with $$$ to spend on resources in CFB and those who don't, will dictate more shit games like this one going forward.
And at QB, the only one who checks the boxes is Jones. He's another Cutcliffe product, probably one of the very few in the draft that has been taught to process the amount of information an NFL QB will need.
His red flag should only be medical/durability.
I think the Cutcliffe connection is over blown.
Six quarterbacks whom Cutcliffe coached in college have gone on to play in the NFL: Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Erik Ainge, Thaddeus Lewis, and Sean Renfree.
When you take out the Mannings, who were probably going to be good QBs no matter what, the list is very unimpressive.
RE: There is no way anyone can get a read on this guy Â
when he gets absolutely no pressure and has all day to look around to find a wr. Dak Prescott looked with the Cowboys a couple of seasons ago when he had all day to throw and now doesn't look all that great. Great Arm good accuracy but I wouldn't touch him with the sixth pick. Without seeing this guy play with pressure its nothing more than a crap shoot.
How do most QB’s look with pressure. You can’t evaluate him because he doesn’t get pressured? Really

If he didn't last year - for a Rb in a perceived historic qb class - he isn't this year. I'm not worried. We will get a pass rusher.
And on Sunshine - yes he looked great against Notre Dame as he has all year .... but that haircut is a red flag man... and in all seriousness, for teams to be willing to tank and go 0-16 for him .,, does anyone have a read on his work ethic, ability to thrive under stress, deficit, media, his passion for gameplanning, etc?
Lawrence will be a Luck-caliber QB prospect. Everything is top tier, on and off the field.
That Ohio State should have been the 1 loss team in the playoffs.
Nonsense. The best four regular season teams got in. Sometimes NFL playoff games end in blowouts too.
I also think far too much time elapses between final game and playoffs in college. ND was flat and overwhelmed by the moment all night... four weeks between games played a part in that.
Well I think Georgia was one of the four best teams in the regular season. Better than OU or OSU but the committee thought otherwise and I understand why they went the way they did.
I think Georgia will show how good they are again tonight.
See, I put no weight on how they perform tonight against a mediocre Texas team. Bowls are pageantry for the most part - a month between games, little motivation, pro prospects skip games, etc
They lost two games in a year 7 teams lost 0 or 1. The SEC east was weak. Their out of conference schedule was laughable. Only quality win all year was Florida on a neutral field.
They should be top 4 ... on paper they are... but aside from playing Alabama close but no cigar... they needed to do more.
Next year they at least have notre Dame on their OOC and the sec east should be better

I think OSU beats Oklahoma.
I think they could too but I wouldn't bet on it. After seeing what Purdue and Maryland put up on them, I'd be inclined to think OU would do at least the same and I'm not sure OSU could keep up.
I think it would be a fun game to see though, but I also think Georgia would beat both.
That Ohio State should have been the 1 loss team in the playoffs.
Then they shouldn't have given up a combined 100 points to Purdue and Maryland.
.
In NCAA Football, where offense rules the day, I don’t care if you give up a 100 points. These teams start copycatting offensive philosophies and spread uptempo RPO teams score on most defenses.
It happens.
OU played real poorly against Army. They didn’t give up a ton of points but they should have mopped the floor with them if they were anywhere in Bama’s league.
Ohio State is a known commodity with the talent and depth to match Bama. I hate making this argument, but it’s true.
Peyton, Elway, and the immortal Trent Dilfer are the only QB top 10 picks to win a SB in the last 18-20 years. Dilfer is obviously an outlier in that group.
Flacco, Roethlisberger, Wilson, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Warner, Brad Johnson all taken outside top 10 in Round 1 and later.
Trent Dilfer was taken 6th in his draft year. Just saying (not to scare anyone).
It’s a much different game now than it was. I think you will see more and more QBs going top 10 as the rules favor safety more and more. The rules have drastically increased the value of QBs.

if you stop them 3 and out they kick a field goal and it's still a 2 score game.
These guys are getting paid millions of dollars. You can't fuck up like that. Call a timeout and then punt, down 2 scores with 4 minutes to go. Horrendous

after 3 quarters. We may have played like shit on offense.... but is that not a winnable game? Even if you take account their FG into the 4th. It was 13-6. One score game with the ball in the 4th.
That is the utter definition of close/winnable game.
Shit you're a moron sometimes, Stan. I admire your consistency in terms of sticking with your opinions no matter what.
But the Pac-12 and west coast football are jokes right now. A three win Washington team gets the Rose Bowl because of conference affiliation. Nothing else.
Actually a tough call. Right now, OSU gets the edge.
But I think the upside of a couple Mizzou guys is higher. Also think the Mizzou system is more QB friendly.
If the debate is Haskins vs Lock....Haskins for me.

He is excellent. He can win with initial movement, agility is elite. The he can finish with his speed and power.
Don't love him against the run, especially as a stay at home defender which no matter that, will come in to play here and there.
1st rounder, likely a top 20 guy. He is actually a guy NYG could use but he won't be a top 6 guy and he won't be there in round 2.

Not until later in the week. Miss State vs Iowa was my day game.
I'm high on Allen, not top 5 yet like some are. But I still have 4-5 games of his to see.

Ohio State's WR core has more interesting prospects with Campbell, Hill, and McLauren
Prince and Jordan are top ten prospects at their OL spots.
And Dobbins and Weber are a better RBs prospects than Rountee et al.
That's why I think Lock has done more with less.
No disrespect Sy, I’ll make the adjustment but seriously, is it that hard to followreading my comment to the original post 1st?
I am because Im sure everyone can read.
Punting it there makes no sense on any level. What the fuck is wrong with some of these coaches.

Think of it this way...you answer a question after its asked no? I think responding to a post or quoting one follows the same line of thinking.

Mizzou WR Hall and TE Okwuegbunam may be the 2 best skill players if you combined the teams.
RBs Crockett and Rountree are same-level.
Mizz passing scheme has been simpler to play in
Has made more positive plays under duress with an undermanned offensive personnel.
This one is "close" and "competitive" right?

You’re thinking of the wrong poster again. You’re ringing in the new year as bad as last years.
Someone also needs to explain to me how the last touchdown wasnt overturned, but the Notre Dame fumble on the kickoff was.
The inconsistency of replay is fucking annoying. ND wasn't winning regardless but they got fucking screwed on that replay
