Boylhart added a bunch more prospects today, including Daniel Jones, Will Grier, Ryan Finley, Joey Bosa, and a few more. He likes
Daniel Jones a lot...
Daniel reminds me a lot of the Giants Eli Manning...He has the arm talent and accuracy to make teams defend his ability to pass the ball down the field opening up the running game. His mechanics are mature moving his feet consistently to keep his balance when under pressure in the pocket. Daniel does an excellent job managing the game plan and is like a coach on the field helping his teammates at all times. The potential to be a Franchise quarterback is what you get when you select Daniel and I think in this draft if you want him you just might have to trade up to get him. |
He likes
Ryan Finley, too, but I would worry that "just enough atheism" is too much atheism for Dave "touched by the hand of God" Gettleman...
Ryan is an accomplished, smart quarterback. He has the size and arm talent go along with just enough atheism to play in any style of pro offense for the team that selects him. |
Drew Boylhart Talent Board - (
New Window )
Outside of the Friday night disaster Ames, where the entire team laid an egg, and that happens to nearly every player, what the hell season was this guy watching?

Let's see how high he'll be picked. I'd guess end of Dy 1/Round 1 like the running QB on the Ravens.
It depends on what teams do in free agency, but he could easily go in the top five if he is seen as the best QB in the class. None of the draftniks (other than Boylhart) had Baker Mayfield as the top QB at this time of year, so I would be reluctant to project where any of them will go at this point. If Gettleman likes Jones (or any QB), he should be worried about Coughlin jumping in front of him (the same way Coughlin swooped in on Norwell out of nowhere when everyone had him projected to the Giants).
I would wager that Coughlin will trade up not just ahead of us, but also Tampa. Coughlin isn't getting any younger and even though the triumvirate received a vote of confidence, he knows the NFL stands for Not For Long. Bortles will not be their starter (he might remain as backup just because of his contract). I also don't believe Tampa in their public statements re: Winston being their guy.
I took the Mrs to the movies last night and did not see the second half of the Rose Bowl.
I thought he looked good making his reads, looking off safeties (as they showed in the telecast) but he side arms some throws. He saw an all out blitz, stood in, made the right throw and got blasted (late 2nd qtr?). He has a strong arm.
I think there is a lot to this kid.
BTW, I thought Dungey from Syracuse looked about as good as anyone else. I did not see Jones.
It is a possibility. Just reading the tea leaves, but with the guarantees being voided of Fournette's (on appeal), he very well can be packaged to move up without sacrificing future picks without affecting their cap. Speaking of which, they are in trouble. They will likely release Malik Jackson and AJ Bouye to save on the cap, but right now with no moves being made, they are projected to be over the increased cap. They still have young talent to sign (Ramsey, Ngakoue, etc.) so they may not have the ability to sign a vet FA QB.
I'm with Boylhart - the Giants are probably going to have to trade up to get him. He's got everything, including much better mobility than a pocket passer should have.
You probably couldn't make a better "Giants QB" prospect in a lab. He's the pick but we'll have to fight for him IMO.

Had a great first half. Did less in the second half. He wasn't under pressure much (as was the case all year). His eye manipulation is top notch. Rare trait to see in a kid so young with so little experience.
I think you're right.

how underrated Jones is by the masses right now.

Duke was supposed to be a contender for the ACC Coastal title this year. Instead they finished next to last. And Jones came up small in a few pivotal games, including a 59-7 loss to Wake Forest at home.
This was probably the season I've seen more college football games live than any other. Saw almost every Clemson home game, went to see Duke-wake and I was really interested to see Jones. The two games I saw him, it wasn't just the performance, he didn't look good at all compared to the QB's on the other side of the ball. And if you look at his stats, his best season was when he was a redshirt FR, and last year, he had a 56.7% completion %.
I just don't see much from him that screams he's an NFL-ready starter.
2019 is off to a very strange start...
it means Barkley has some talent and abilities you cannot teach or learn.. for example his balance, athleticism at his size.. his start stop ability..
you could say the same thing for LT or Barry Sanders. They did things on the football field others simply cannot do..
thats all he is saying. The have a God-given natural talent..

are much more likely to go out and add a veteran QB like Foles or Bridgewater than they are to trade picks to move up for a rookie QB. That team was in the AFC championship game just one season ago and Coughlin isn’t getting any younger. I doubt they are going to want to wait until a rookie QB develops, IMO.

They'll get $18M in cap relief when Bortles is waived.

I didn't do a deep dive into their cap situation. I just know that Malik is expecting his release based on local news reporting for the past month. While they can't have Blake as the starter, it will be a difficult decision to cast him aside before FA starts and a month before the draft. What if the market is more than they can pay in FA and they had already released Blake? They are stuck heading into the draft with Cody at the top of the depth chart. Pretty much telegraphs to the other teams what their draft intention is.
This draft has a lot more talent than that one.
Still has the best mechanics and the best blend of mobility and passing in the class (next to potentially Murray).
