WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Gene Okerlund, the most recognizable interviewer in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 76.
Hearing about his passing made me think about being a little kid staying up late to watch Saturday Night Main Event. I hadn't thought about that in forever.

Me too. I can hear every note of that theme song in my head right now. SN Main Event wasn't the same level as the PPV specials, but it was a step up from the usual dreck they had on Channel 9, where the stars would beat up on nobodies.
“If one day I’m called up to the big house. If I’m called, there’ll be a funeral and I want you to burry me facedown. And then all of my critics can kiss my ass!” Mean Gene’s closing Remarks - ( New Window )
I’m one of many of us for whom big wrestling matches were can’t miss TV in the 80s, loved me some Mean Gene
He seemed like he was close to that age years ago!

And off-camera he was also one helluva nice guy with a great sense of humor.
May he rest in eternal peace.
RIP.

They did a re-shoot, but somebody played the wrong one anyway.
Big time WWF/WWE fans. All the legends are going or done.
He was such a great TV personality.
