All these rock stars and other figures from my childhood keep passing away. It’s just a terrible reminder of how short our lives really are.
What a legend

The role he played as the announcer/straight man to so many crazy personalities was a big part of what made the WWF so popular

I’m one of many of us for whom big wrestling matches were can’t miss TV in the 80s, loved me some Mean Gene

Yup. I would have guessed about 20 years older. I had the same thought when Robin Leach passed last year.

Hearing about his passing made me think about being a little kid staying up late to watch Saturday Night Main Event. I hadn't thought about that in forever.

Me too. I can hear every note of that theme song in my head right now. SN Main Event wasn't the same level as the PPV specials, but it was a step up from the usual dreck they had on Channel 9, where the stars would beat up on nobodies.

with a microphone in his hand.
And off-camera he was also one helluva nice guy with a great sense of humor.
May he rest in eternal peace.

Met him in 1985 with my daughter.

Big time WWF/WWE fans. All the legends are going or done.

He was such a great TV personality.
What a quote by Mean Gene

To close out his Hall of Fame Speach.

“If one day I’m called up to the big house. If I’m called, there’ll be a funeral and I want you to burry me facedown. And then all of my critics can kiss my ass!”
