NFL Draft Talk | NYG | 11 Projected picks

DavidinBMNY : 1/2/2019 5:48 pm
As it stands the Giants have 9 picks. Based on the link below they are projected to get 2 more comp picks. That would give them:

one 1
one 2
three 4's
three 5's
one six
two sevens

That opens the door for targeting day day players and enough capital to jump around and possibly enough to parlay something into 2020.

The team has lots of needs, and under Reese our late round draft picks were awful.

With Gettleman maybe that changes.

The giants certainly have more draft capital to work with and the 3rd rd pick = Beal so they kind of already drafted a CB, which should be a upgrade.

How does 11 (albeit many mid round picks) selection sound to you, and how would you spend those middle picks?
OTC Comp pick projection [usually pretty accurate] - ( New Window )
QB in round 1 or 2
lawguy9801 : 1/2/2019 5:52 pm : link
The rest: OL and BPA on defense.
I hope the Giants use one of their 4th-5th round picks
Jay on the Island : 1/2/2019 5:54 pm : link
on a NT and a developmental OT to groom behind Solder.
If they go offense

Get a OL and WR for 1and 2. On Defense a pass rusher and Free Safety
I want to trade down
BigBlueDownTheShore : 1/2/2019 6:08 pm : link
To pick up another 1st for next year.

That way we can move up to get a QB because we aren’t going to be this bad again and we aren’t getting a QB this draft.
Trade down with Miami

at 13. Draft OLB Jachai Polite.

Pick up an extra 2nd this year and a 1st and 4th next year.

2nd RD draft DE and RT.
4th through 7th RDs I should have 9 picks left. I'm going to get an OG as soon as the value is there, two CBs, another OL (any position but prefer C and OG), another DL, another LB, a S, and with my last two picks perhaps another S, LB, DL, or a stretch the field WR.

This draft, to me, I believe should be about building up the trenches, getting some additional DB talent, and adding an edge rusher.

Polite can really bend and get after it in the passing game. In fact, I think he might be a riser in the draft and 13 may be too low to be able to get him.
The way it's shaping up

There may be more than a few DLs that would have been or would be first rounders in less DL rich years, (oversupply) sitting there in round 2. Not to mention a center, a safety and a LB or two.

I'd look to package some of those 5-6-7 maybe even a 4 and move up into 2 to have more second rounders. Keep the first rounder (looking D also) and grab as many second rounders as possible.
All that said
idiotsavant : 1/2/2019 6:50 pm : link
It's not often, close to never, that you have defensive linesmen slayed 1st,2nd,3rd ---over...all--- in some lists.

Those must be unique humans. Unique like Barkely is unique.

And the likely prospect of at least one sitting at 6. Due to what goes down every year.

It would be madness not to draft that player, or at least one of the 3 or 4 if the player is there.
Typo

Slated. Not slayed.
love to se them get Wiliams or Oliver
bc4life : 1/2/2019 7:11 pm : link
to replace Josh Mauro as a starter. If they're gone - edge rusher. Based on what I've read here and elsewhere - that's where the value will be at #6.
I've Never Been A Trade Down Guy...

In fact I usually make fun of the posters that propose the Giants trade down every year, because those posters are usually "draft-nicks" who will always choose quantity over quality.

But this year I'm in trade-down mode.

Trade down and either get a QB you like later in RD 1 or take BPA. Use the extra choices for other needs not satisfied in FA, like OT, G, edge rusher, S and LB.
Weird
idiotsavant : 1/2/2019 7:30 pm : link
I'm typically a trade down advocate.

But-

Thus year I'm an advocate of staying put (DL) then trading up for additional second rounder(s) for D.+

Maybe the center.
Center is interesting
DavidinBMNY : 1/2/2019 7:50 pm : link
DG seems high on "Pio" who is Halapio. And I think they are developing a few udfas like Evan Brown. That said they could use another interior player and a really good center solidifies the interior and maybe the entire old.

Yeah generally I think like you, if you know you can get a great talent at your pick, just make the pick. I am buying in at this point, however, considering the looming immediate QB need, and the QBs available in this draft compared to next year, that getting that extra first in 2020 would be a HUGE win. You get two firsts and who knows, the Dolphins (or Giants) might end up with the #1 overall pick.

take a dl guy 6
Dankbeerman : 1/2/2019 9:23 pm : link
and trade back into the bottom of the first for a qb.
Package those extra picks
Doomster : 1/2/2019 11:22 pm : link
to move up in the draft....
If we don’t like a QB at 6 and there’s no major “slip”

I want to trade down and try to get an extra 1 next year. Looking like next year may be when we go all out for a QB - we will probably need to trade a few high picks to move into range to get him.
I'd trade away all 5-6-7 roundpicks for 4th and higher round picks

I think that's somewhat realistic to an extent to either move up positioning wise or pick up an extra pick next year. Trade a 6 this year for a 5 next for example.

It's very hard for 11 drafted rookies to make a team.
I would sell the #6 pick

for 2020 1st and 2nd/3rd depending on who it is.

I would also, that or try to trade their 2nd this year for a 1st next year and pray that team has a horrific season.
It would have to be more than a 2nd this year though
Jay on the Island : 1/3/2019 9:37 am : link
Trading away the 6th overall pick for a pick next year might end up moving down into the 20's. Imagine the uproar then.

I believe it is a real long shot that the NY Giants will have a top 10 draft pick (of their own) in the next 10 years.
Though projected to be, no draft, including 2020,
Big Blue '56 : 1/3/2019 9:45 am : link
is a lock to be productive. Keep your picks and fill in the holes now. There are no guarantees. Also the 5-7th picks and UDFAs are where you fill in the bottom half of the roster, where you strengthen Specials and solidify depth.

The grass is always greener, or mostly so, imo

Last year when we picked at #2 a lot of people said it would be a long time before we are ever in the position to draft a QB so highly. While we are at #6 and not #2, that's pretty high. And even in this last draft, Josh Allen went #7 and Josh Rosen went 10th.

I think the Giants could end up with the #1 overall pick next year. I'm not saying it's likely, but that it is a possibility. As far as top 10, well, this draft will make 4 of the last 5 years that the Giants have drafted in the top 10, so I would guess that to be pretty likely, as I can't say I have a great deal of confidence that Eli is still a winning QB, and plus, injuries can derail any season.

As far as QBs in this draft go, I am intrigued by Daniel Jones, Haskins, Grier, and Finley, but I don't think any of them are worth the #6 pick. I think the only way it makes sense is to trade back into the 20's, where it might make sense to take a Daniel Jones there.

That said, we are a long ways away with post-season bowl games, Combine, Pro Days, interviews, private workouts, and there is just so much that affects the draft that it doesn't make a lot of sense to even try and put these guys in order right now.
