ESPN Adds "MNF" Crew To CFP Title Game MegaCast

ESPN will use its “MNF” crew to call Monday’s Alabama-Clemson CFP Championship game as part of planned MegaCast coverage around the event. The “MNF Film Room” will replace the “Coaches Film Room” on ESPNews for the game, with Joe Tessitore, Jason Witten and Booger McFarland teaming up with Todd McShay to provide an X’s and O’s-style telecast from the game site in Santa Clara. ESPN says other parts of the MegaCast lineup will be released later today.

What a great idea......said no one ever.

WTF?

ESPN clearly run by Schrutte Farms

Who the fuck is going to see this and think "oh, awesome! That's definitely how I'm going to enjoy this one!"

ESPN seems to just have absolutely no awareness. This crew was a monumental failure. It was like a competition to see which one of the 3 could upstage the others by saying something even less logical/sensical than the guy before him.

Jason Witten spends half of every broadcast tripping over his own words and forgetting the point he was trying to make before he even gets to the end of a thought. Just horrendous broadcasting.
Well Crap...

I actually watched the Coaches Broadcast for the Semifinal games and really really enjoyed their breakdowns of each play. Felt like I was learning while I was watching. Seems to me ESPN has fixed something here that wasn't broken. Unfortunate.
I never thought I would miss Jon Gruden
jogo1 : 1/3/2019 11:21 am : link
but then I heard Witten and Booger talk for 3 hours straight.
ESPN is to sports
Mike from Ohio : 1/3/2019 11:21 am : link
what McDonalds is to dining. Flip on ESPN and you will see a lot of sports. It will just be watered down nonsense to appeal to people who don't really care.
Great idea...

Booger annoys me far more. At least Witten throughout the year admitted he's new to this broadcast thing and would spend hours in the hotel mirror night before games practicing. Booger thinks he's paid by the word, and talks far too much for a sideline reporter. Just put him in the booth so they can stop cutting each off so much if you're going to have him talk this much.

Not to mention his sideline seat obstructs so many seats behind him... its really disrespectful.
This really wrecks the game for me.
NBGblue : 1/3/2019 11:35 am : link
I used to cringe listening to Jon Gruden repeatedly make meaningless comments like "This guy right here is a football player" and how everyone was great. But with Booger and the boys I can only watch the game on mute. Their no-stop drivel is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
The Coaches Room is fantastic
BigBlueDownTheShore : 1/3/2019 11:36 am : link
why would you replace it with those 3 buffoons that no one cares for?

ESPN has been bad at picking announcers for a long time.

Yeah, that monstrosity they have him patrolling the sidelines in is absolutely ridiculous. He's terrible. Every back and forth between the two of them just makes me cringe.
Dude is in his what, 40s?
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/3/2019 11:41 am : link
And is called 'Booger'. Come on man.
apparently for the playoffs Booger will be in the booth
Jints in Carolina : 1/3/2019 11:41 am : link
and they are at least temporarily doing away with that monstrosity.
3 men in a booth
bluepepper : 1/3/2019 11:41 am : link
is almost always a bad idea. Even if the individuals are good as a team it's hard to mesh. This crew though is actually a case of the whole being as bad a the sum of the parts. All 3 suck individually and really suck as a team. Whoever put this crew together should be fired.
What were Witten's credentials?
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/3/2019 11:44 am : link
Simply being an ex-Cowboy? Whenever I'd hear him as a player, he wasn't a Romo or Madden. He was blah.

That's because they look more to "entertainment value" than "analyst value." That's what prompted the hiring of the likes of Miller and Kornheiser.

I doubt there are many people who will tune in to a football game and look to be entertained by the announcers and not the game itself.

Yup, that's basically it. Romo was a hit on CBS so they figured this other ex-Cowboy would be a hit on MNF. Yes, the people who make these decisions can be that stupid at times.

This is stupid and symbolic of ESPN. The whole point of the Coaches Room is to hear from Patterson, Addazio, etc. talk about run fits, fundamentals, schemes etc. What the F will Witten and Booger add to that?

you guys don't enjoy
giants#1 : 1/3/2019 11:52 am : link
hearing Booger describe how real men simply "relieve" themselves on the bench unlike some of today's divas that like to trot into the locker room quickly?

I'm going back to the SNF crew. They were terrible as well.
ESPN had decent announcers for the bowl games

there’s no reason to add the 3 idiots from MNF .. another game I’ll need to watch on mute.
ESPN tries to re-invent the wheel

ladies and gents, we present the 'BoogerMobile', oh Lord.
Then fans who actually pay good money for the tix,
started bitching because that vehicle was in their way.
ESPN should scrap that bad idea!

Unless i'm misunderstanding, its still Herbie and Fowler calling the game. Its just the idiot crew instead of big-time college HCs breaking down the film over on ESPN news during the game, which some here enjoyed during the semi-finals.
and for all the shit he's getting and deservedly so...
MetsAreBack : 1/3/2019 12:44 pm : link
I'd much rather have guys like Mack Brown and maybe bring back Urban Meyer (who was a good analyst for them) in a film room breaking things down than Booger and Witten, and Gene screaming like he's Doc Emerson on every 15 yard completion.
Poor people at game now

Instead, ESPN's response will be to equip the vehicle with racing stripes and a neon-lit undercarriage.

There's a documentary on how this decision was reached. It's the Poochie episode of the Simpsons.

Mcshay was a good addition to their crew ... when they are all a bit more subdued and not taking over each other ... it's not a terrible listen
