Salary Cap question

Gross Blau Oberst : 1/3/2019 8:24 pm
When making trades, does the CBA or NFL rules allow teams to include salaries / bonuses as part of a trade, as done in MLB or other leagues.

As an example, say Pittsburgh wishes to Trade a certain wide receiver to the Raiders, but Pittsburgh can't absorb the cap hit (pro-rated bonus and salary). Can the Raiders trade a portion of their salary cap to Pittsburgh as part of the trade, to make it more affordable?

The scenario is fictional, only intended to illustrate the idea.

Is that allowed in the NFL and CBA?
I'm 99% sure that is a fat no

Salaries, guaranteed and not go with the player

As do roster bonuses. Signing bonuses stay with the team that signed the player apportioned depending on the date of trade. Them's the rules.
Assuming the answer is no

If the NFL were to to allow that in the future, would it be welcomed, helpful or harmful?

I think it would open up the trade opportunities more than today.

Thoughts?

To clarify - Any bonuses paid during a calendar year are the responsibility of the original team. Future bonuses go with the player along with the salary. Also, depending on the timing of the trade determines the dead cap hit. Regardless, any earned bonuses in a calendar year must be accounted for in the year it was paid. They can't be split in the event of a post 6/1 trade.
