NGT: Looks like Justin Fields

is transferring to Ohio State.

Saw the report that former 5-star #UGA QB Justin Fields is transferring to #OhioState. I can confirm that he is on the OSU campus there now. Would expect more details in the next 24 hours or so.

Correct but he has hired the same lawyer that Patterson hired and he played right away. I'd say there is a strong chance he is eligible

Agreed. I think Fields wins that job running away.

It sounds like he's going to get the waiver too.

I did. He had an off night.

But I agree in general - Fromm doesn't have any great physical attribute. What are his plus categories?

He's a good college player. But I need to see much, much more...

Fromm is average IMO .. I certainly don’t see a future top NFL QB when I watch him.. he’s a alright QB on a loaded Georgia team l. If Fields is as good as they say he is I don’t know why Georgia played Fromm ahead of him

The top two teams in the draft are going to be in great position that year with Lawrence and Fields.

but I do see a potential franchise QB. He has a very impressive arm and he is advanced at going through his progressions. I could see Fromm being the top QB on the Giants board in 2020.

It's impressive for a pocket passer to be that advanced as a sophomore. It's usually easier for the dual threat QB's at a younger age because they can create more.

Agree
To be clear, I like Fromm...
bw in dc : 1/4/2019 5:09 pm : link
I just don’t see him as top of the draft material yet.

Second round/third round? Definitely worth a look.

But there is still time.
Fields practiced all last spring, and was the #2
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 1/4/2019 5:34 pm : link
When the season started he was the #2 .... all season he was the #2. He could not unseat Fromm, and wouldn’t unseat him again.

It’s really not that hard to see. Fromm replaced Eason last year and Eason never got his job back. Someone at UGA likes Fromm.

UGA was a team filled with underclassmen after losing multiple players to the NFL. This was supposed to be season for the kids to gain experience and that’s exactly what happened.

Coaching lost the Bama game and the Dawgs laid an egg in the SugarBowl.

They will be back next season , probably preseason #3 or 4.

I wish Fields would have road it out but best of luck to him!

That's fine but I strongly disagree. If Fromm was in this years draft I would be hoping that the Giants traded up to #1 to take him. I would be surprised if Fromm isn't a top 3 pick in the 2020 pick with a good shot to be 1st or 2nd overall.
I know people think

If they grant
MookGiants : 1/4/2019 6:06 pm : link
Fields immediate eligibility then they should do away with the transfer rule. Spare me that he had a racist comment directed towards him. His case is nonexistant, but it wouldnt surprise anyone to see him granted the waiver, but if he is then every kid that wants to transfer should be able to do so immediately

Ratings, that's why. Ohio State brings in ratings and having Fields will help increase that
A few comments from new poster
Mark in ATL : 1/4/2019 6:16 pm : link
1. Fields went to UGA reportedly because they ran a pro style offense. He had verbally committed to Penn State and backed out and I believe visited Florida State and Auburn. 2. Not everyone in this area thinks Fromm is guaranteed to be a high first round pick due to combination of things: arm strength, mobility, heigth, and ability to make plays when he has no running game. 3. There’s a decent chance that the two 5 star recruits that Fromm ‘ran’ off from UGA (Fields and Jacob Eason, eligible to play at the University of Washington in the Fall) will have better pro careers than Fromm at least because of their physical attributes. 4. Fields supposedly had difficulty making his reads and progressions in practice which limited his game time. 5. Many in the media believe he would not have chosen Ohio State without fairly firm assurances of playing time.

Was also said on occasion he forgot the playbook and had to be corrected multiple times.

UGA running will be even more potent next year with white coming back and Cook with a year under his belt.

comment story? I looked it up a little and saw that a baseball player was dismissed from the team for using the N world in the student section during a football game. Were his comments specifically directed at Fields, the backup QB or is that just the waiver argument?

Mark in ATL : 1/4/2019 6:43 pm : link
I agree with Kevin, Georgia’s running game will certainly be as good as this Fall. They will have a massive OL and current RBs back. Many say the 2018 team will be Smart’s weakest in the next five years as he will continue to stack top 3-5 recruiting classes. Finally it seems Ridley (WR) and Nagata (TE) have told the University that they will declare for the draft.
Racist comment
Mark in ATL : 1/4/2019 6:53 pm : link
I think the comment by the baseball player, who was kicked off the team and is no longer a student at the university, was seen as leverage in case there were issues with the NCAA about immediate eligibility. The comment reportedly was made to the coaching staff from the stands.

I also heard Smart was going to be very deferential to Fromm based on what he did last year. Getting the Dawgs to the title game was a big, big deal.

Some kids are leaving for the NFL but they all have depth behind them.

OSU QB
Mark in ATL : 1/4/2019 7:35 pm : link
I heard the backup OSU QB made it very clear that he had no plans to be friends with Fields. Smart’s recruiting could have been #1 but he has been limited to 25 recruits. I think Alabama was recruiting 35+.

ajr2456, I don’t believe that’$ the ca$e
Mark in ATL : 1/5/2019 5:37 am : link
Here’s why: 1. My kids graduated from the same HS as Fields with my son a year ahead of him and there was never any rumors of financial incentives. 2. The HS is not known for its football. There are other schools nearby (Evan Engram’s and Bradley Chubb’s, as an example) that would have provided Fields a better mix of football, diversity, and academics. 3. Fields recruitment and UGA are covered by the media (ESPN, the Athletic, Atlanta Constituion, 2 Atlanta sports talk stations, various UGA websites, multiple recruiting sites, etc) very closely. To my knowledge, there were no stories or rumors of untoward behavior in Fields recruitment by UGA. Could you give your reasons for your statement?
The figure was somewhere
ajr2456 : 1/5/2019 8:48 am : link
In the mid to high $1 million range, from what I’ve been told by people in the know.

Not every kid gets money under the table but every program changing kid does. There were other issues in his FSU recruitment but he could have committed to Jimbo’s prostyle system and started year 1. He chose to go somewhere he would likely end up sitting out a year. Even without knowing what I know, it’s easy to connect the dots.
That’s quite a story
Mark in ATL : 1/5/2019 9:13 am : link
So, what you are saying is the Fields family got nearly $1 million for their son to attend UGA and now more money to transfer to Ohio State? If what you are alleging is true and so easy to connect the dots, why hasn’t there been an investigation done by the NCAA or even the FBI? Why hasn’t there been anything bandied about in the press? That’s a pretty large sum of money to be sweeping under the rug. Sorry, I don’t buy it.
I don’t know if he got money to go to Ohio State
ajr2456 : 1/5/2019 9:23 am : link
But the paying of players under the table has gone on forever. How many schools have gotten caught?

The bag mans run college football.

ajr2456 : 1/5/2019 9:25 am : link
Not sure how Fields’ was done but it usually happens with cash, someone buying the parents house for way over market value, the parents opening up their own business and the boosters/bagmen spending money at this company.
