NFT: The Death Of Stalin

Gary from The East End : Admin : 1/4/2019 11:58 am
Anyone else see this? I was bored and wanted to see something different. It was funny and disturbing in equal measure.

Steve Buscemi as Nikita Khrushchev. Jeffery Tambor as Malenkov. Michael Palin as Molotov.

The whole thing plays out like some absurdist stage play based around one of the most brutal periods in history.

Of course, it's banned in Russia.

It's on Showtime now, if you have that.
Its on my list...

Loved it. Iannucci created and ran Veep and this definitely has that same vibe and comedy style, which I really enjoy. Awesome cast. Definitely would recommend.
It was really good

I thought Buscemmi was excellent. And it held up pretty good in terms of historical perspective.
I saw it last week

I loved it as well I just wish I knew how much of it was true. My favorite part was at the funeral.
I liked it,

though not as much as some of Iannucci's other stuff.
Saw it last year, what a great film

strange but funny. The actors aren't really believable in any kind of historic sense. You aren't likely to forget that it's Buscemi on the screen and not Khruschev. It's more like an extended comedy sketch than anything else.

Here's the trailer

Glad it's still around for others to watch. If you don't know much about Stalin, do read more about him. Probably the lead monster of the last century and a close call for monster of all time. Those close to him and around him often were lucky to survive.
