Last night’s game against Warriors was anazing

You can’t guard Harden even when double teamed.

If you guard him, they call a foul too.

Too bad he couldn't come up with a performance like that in the playoffs last year.

What does that even mean? What superstars don’t have big egos, lay alone NBA superstars.

Harden has been awesome this year.

Did you not see his quote after the game. I guess its the new day of players who feed their ego... but for me Maybe I am still old school. The great ones dont talk about themselves like this...

Quote:
"I've got the total package," Harden said. "I get to the basket aggressive, and I shoot my shot. Don't foul me on my jump shot and then we won't have nothing to talk about. It's simple as that.

"[People] talk too much about my fouls and not actually the greatness of what I'm doing out there on the court. That's what we need to focus on."
this is where stats are misleading
giants#1 : 1/4/2019 12:56 pm : link
Harden's last 5:
OKC: 41 pts 7 assts 6 rebs 5 threes
BOS: 45 pts 6 assts 2 rebs 9 threes
NOP: 41 pts 6 assts 9 rebs 7 threes
MEM: 43 pts 13 assts 10 rebs 6 threes
GSW: 44 pts 15 assts 10 rebs 10 threes

I can't speak for the rest of Harden's career, but technically he only crossed that (arbitrary) threshold once over the last 5 games. His averages are still ridiculous, just the methodology used to try and amplify them is absurd.
FWIW
giants#1 : 1/4/2019 12:59 pm : link
Harden's only achieved this arbitrary threshold 3 times in his career (twice in 2018-19).

Harden has the best footwork
PaulBlakeTSU : 1/4/2019 1:10 pm : link
I have ever seen in watching the NBA. He is an absolute master at his craft in using his feet and timing to beat defenders, to get exactly where he wants to be for a shot, and to draw fouls.

I think a lot of what he (and other players do) regarding step-backs, side-steps, and "gathering" the ball should be considered traveling. But by the way the NBA legislates and officiates the rules, they are not traveling. And credit to Harden for mastering how to operate within the rules to maximum effect. Every now and then, he legitimately travels and sometimes he gets called for it (like other players). But more often than not, he uses exceptional technique (that I'm sure he spent countless hours perfecting) to create as much space as possible.

With that all said, more often than not I dislike watching him play. Like I said, I don't like that some of those moves are not considered traveling (I feel that way at times about what Giannis does with his gathering of the ball), and I hate the idea of driving to the basket with the objective of drawing a foul rather than it being a byproduct of trying to score (which Harden does more often than any other player in the league).

It's like watching Georgia Tech run the triple option in football every single play. I dislike watching it, but it can be very effective.
he's unreal
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/4/2019 1:21 pm : link
last night was possibly my favorite game of his career. Just bigtime clutch shot after clutch shot, amazing passing, and he actually played well on D last night.

He just overtook Giannis in the MVP race imo.

I hate the foul think as much as anyone, especially against the Warriors who are generally incapable of getting away with even the slightest amount of contact and even, in many cases, no contact at all.

But I have to give credit where it's due: he is a genuinely frightening player right now. That final 3 was ballsy as fuck.

It's kind of always been that way, there just used to be less internet and ESPN around to make people indignant.

Give me the Tim Duncans of the world. Hakeem. Bird/Magic. Even to an extent MJ - who I cant recall talking like this to the media.
Yeah but they aren’t in the nba
UConn4523 : 1/4/2019 3:12 pm : link
and it isn’t 1980. My comment was solely about the tops stars in today’s NBA all have egos.
Tremendous talent for sure...

dibble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, screen...

dribble, dribble, dribble...

Three pointer or drive to the basket.

Harden is certainly your guy.

Nothing better than whistles every other drive!

Chicks dig the...free throw!
The NBA stars today are immensely exciting to watch

Allen Iverson would have thrived even more this era.

Love all these players and and finally not jealous thst my team doesn’t have something like this as I am a sixers fan.

I may be in the minority but I was hoping the rockets would be amazing this year to provide some competition for the warriors.

Same for OKC, celtics, my sixers.

The NBA is about productivity. He's exploiting what defenders can't or won't handle in the NBA right now.

The focus on how much he's fouled is lame. He's baiting defenders into fouling. Easier said than done, but use someone with length who can stay in front of him and doesn't need to get on top of him to intefer with his shot.

Make him shoot the mid range more and live with those percentages.

Bird was a notorious trash talker who would stroll by the opposing bench and ridicule his opponents.

Magic did the kind of thing you'd eviscerate Jimmy Butler for.

There's a viral video of Jordan making the rounds where he's not exactly humble when talking about his abilities and legacy.
Im not a huge fan, but he's an amazing O player
ChaChing : 1/5/2019 10:51 pm : link
shitty officiating or not

Still that stat is not what it seems: In those last 5 games, Harden averaged those numbers but only had 1 game where he hit the same metric (not saying he hasn't in the past either, he certainly might have)

No big deal, but just somewhat random and not exactly accurate. At first I assumed it meant he did it 5 times. But that's not the case. Only did it last game vs GSW
The times change no doubt but this idea that MJ was some humble

great is far off

Quote:
The greatest athlete of our time made sure to point out the high school coach who didn't put him on the varsity his sophomore year. (He was never cut, per se. That's an urban myth akin to Catfish Hunter's nickname origin.) He pointed out the guy who made the team "over" him, who was in the audience; his college roommate, Buzz Peterson; the NBA vets who froze him out in his first All-Star Game, two of whom were there, George Gervin (who presented David Robinson) and Isiah Thomas (who presented John Stockton); Jazz guard Bryon Russell, who was guarding him on his final shot in a Bulls uniform; and, of course, former Bulls general manager Jerry Krause, with whom he had real conflict during his career. Krause, forever the outsider looking in, made the mistake of claiming he was skipping Jordan's induction because former coach Tex Winter, the originator of the triangle offense, wasn't inducted.

Onstage, Jordan adroitly, and unnecessarily, noted Krause wasn't invited before going on a diatribe about how organizations don't win championships, great players like him do -- a reversal of a much-traveled portion of a longer, more balanced quote credited to Krause. Jordan was right, of course, but why bring that up on the stage in front of basketball's upper echelon? Because Jordan is the ultimate alpha male and this was his alpha male moment. He doesn't get those anymore, not in public. This was it for him.

Iirc when he was retired, he was in a gym where Russell was balling. BR made a comment like 'lucky you don't have kicks b/c I could guard you.' And the HS coach who cut him, I heard he even bought the guy tickets then calls him out? Or some mediocre player that not only can't hold his jock but in who's face he made the championship winning / Bulls career ending GWer? A near unanimous GOAT at his HOF speech?

Also check out the comps to Stockton & Robinson's. They gushed over their children / fam / friends while MJ says he feels sorry for his kids having to live in his shadow. All I can say is I might even be worse if I thought I was GOAT, but either way that ain't humble

IMO that generation was lucky media was not as pervasive. IMO Phil Jackson showed exactly that as a Knick exec. For all his smarts and ego management, he looked like an fn idiot on social media. I think our view of MJ would be very different in much the same way

HOF Speech - ( New Window )
That said I loved MJ the baller, even as a Knick fan
