I don't understand this at all. Elliott's team won more games.
Strahan91 : 1/4/2019 1:05 pm : link
Other than that, there's not a single statistic that supports the choice. Barkley did more with fewer touches.
They got the
Pete in MD : 1/4/2019 1:13 pm : link
upside and we got the downside. There are two sides to every Schwartz.
Tyreek Hill... WTF
Eli Wilson : 1/4/2019 1:16 pm : link
Makes first team flex and second team WR. That seems odd to put a guy in there twice.
Wasn’t Saquon

The no.2 rushing RB and 1st in yards from scrimmage this year?
Not to mention..

Barkley led the NFL in yards from scrimmage.
this whole same guy
Dankbeerman : 1/4/2019 1:19 pm : link
at multiple positions make the whole thing a joke. Hill is a 1st team flex and 2nd team WR.

And Watt and Miller being Edge rushers and interior lineman/LB. Or James needing to be 1st team saftey and 2nd team DB. Stupid.

and why have 4 edge rushers on the second team amd not 4 of everything else
Barkley led the league in yards from scrimmage
PaulBlakeTSU : 1/4/2019 1:21 pm : link
led the league in broken tackles, didn't fumble once, and played behind was was universally regarded as a terrible offensive line. I have no idea how he didn't get named an All-Pro.

Elliott over Saquon Barkley???
M.S. : 1/4/2019 1:21 pm : link

WTF!!!
Elliott
ryanmkeane : 1/4/2019 1:24 pm : link
lead the league in rushing and missed a game. Can't really argue, although Barkley did have more yards from scrimmage and more TDs.
So now we all agree that PFF'S rankings are more accurate
BlueLou'sBack : 1/4/2019 1:30 pm : link
than the AP's?

With all due respect, just look at the tape and who performed better with less help.

Saquon was squashed in 2 of his last 3 games; maybe that tipped the scales against him?
I could care less about the accolades
bigbb : 1/4/2019 1:30 pm : link
The only thing that I care about is saquon Barkley is a New York football Giant
Vote for him for Pepsi Rookie of the year

Hill, Zeke, Gurley, and McCaffrey were all great this season
PaulBlakeTSU : 1/4/2019 1:33 pm : link
and all deserving of recognition. But given the production in light of the offensive line, Barkley should have been above one of them.

.
Banks : 1/4/2019 1:34 pm : link
Elliott and Gurley had more yds/game than Barkley. So stat wise they make sense. The eyeball test should have told the voters that Barkley had to do so without a line or a passing game most of the year. That said, I don't have a problem with Elliott or Gurley over him, but McCaffrey? Fantastic player, but Barkley deserved it much more so.
Eh, not too upset about either
regulator : 1/4/2019 1:34 pm : link
Both Gurley and Elliott did not play full seasons. Elliott would have likely led the league in yards from scrimmage if he played Week 17. Absent injury, Gurley may have rushed for more yards than Barkley had he played the last two games, and he scored more overall TDs.

Both played on better teams (in the playoffs) and neither are in New York. Barkley will have his time, if he stays healthy. I don't think anyone reasonably doubts that he is at least as good, if not better, than both of them.

Jay, people keep saying that but 1)Did Reese even have time to sign him given how quickly he signed elsewhere? 2) Wasn’t it reported that he didn’t want to sign where his brother was (unceremoniously?) let go?
Btw, in what universe did Gurly and Zeke have a better year?

They each had very good years. And Gurley and Zeke are on playoff teams. So that was probably a factor.

Let me tell you something, there are worse decisions on the list. For example, Jason Kelce and Zach Martin were not great this year. Those are completely on rep, and laughable.
Ask yourself

Kittle had a couple hundred more yards, but Ertz scored three more TDs, and Ertz broke the NFL record for receptions in a season by a tight end with 116 catches.

ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN CATCHES, 1163 yards, and 8 TDs, and doesn't even get 2nd Team?

WTF. I get that Kittle had a great year, but that's a joke.

McCaffrey over Saquon, a joke.
Derwin James
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 1/4/2019 2:01 pm : link
Knew it as soon as he was drafted. Just a stud and really made that Chargers D more dynamic.

Also Kittle over Ertz is NOT a stretch. He was the 49ers entire passing game.

Barkley caught more passes and scored a bunch more TDs. The point is, even if Zeke was deemed to have a better year (I disagree), that still leaves Gurly over SB for the second slot. Oh please!

Zeke didn't play the final week and still had 43 more carries. If we gave them an equal amount of carries and even knocked off half a yard off Barkley's YPC, he would've won the rushing title with 1500 yards.

Zeke scored less, fumbled more, and averaged less per touch with a better offensive line. Barkley was the better player this season.

Maybe in MVP voting it should but in an individual All Star/best player at a position type vote it shouldn't.
