Let me paint the picture for you.
The Giants are one game out of the division in Week 17. Odell picked up an injury in the last game, but is expected to tough it out and play in this do or die game.
Ultimately, Odell does not play but the team wins. However they do not make the playoffs. A couple of days later it comes out that not only did Odell not playing have nothing to do with his injury, but because of stuff going on behind the scenes like skipping walkthroughs.
It is then reported that Odell threw a football at Eli.
Can you fathom what this week would have been like in the media? The trade rumors and ESPN articles would never end. Can you imagine the posts from GoTerps?
The very same SAS that was on ESPN defending AB this morning, saying that all of this isn't really his fault, would be saying the exact opposite.
It's just crazy to me how wishy-washy the national media could be. I honestly don't think this is a bi-product of Odell playing in NY either, because some of the things that AB has been involved in over the last few years are pretty bad and the media has been mostly silent. It's a sickening double standard to me, especially when you consider that the two are similar in personality on and off the field.
"the two are similar in personality on and off the field."
Odell would never do this. He's a genuinely good person. A role model.
The fact that people even equate the 2 is evidence of the double standard you are pointing out.

Probably worded that wrong. Attitude wise, I think Odell is miles better. By all accounts, AB is reportedly not a very nice person.
What I meant though was that they both have flashy, energetic personalities, they both like to dance, showboat..etc. They are both young, wealthy black men playing for revered NFL franchises, stuff like that. I'm just trying to find one reason of why the double standard is so apparent. They are pretty similar dudes when it comes to stature in the league.
It all stems from that Carolina game IMO. It's ridiculous.
Bringing up Brown to make Beckham look better always was a lame and stupid argument.
Just commenting on the direction that the media chooses to take and the narratives they choose to create when it comes to both of them.
The woe it's me garbage from this clown's fans has been non stop. He's here, and he's getting paid a lot of money to help us continue to play losing football. You got what you wanted... He ain't going anywhere. At least spare us the white knight act.
At times he has shown an incredible lack of awareness that have resulted in distractions for the team.
Signing a 90 mil or so contract then shortly there after answering, that s a tough question, to, “Do you want to play in NY” is a good example.
Not sure I got the verbiage correct, but you get the drift.
LOL

Whoa whoa whoa… Is lil' Wayne washed up???
The negative tone around Beckham stems from the sports media, who have labeled him a hothead, prima donna on a losing team. There's no such thing as negative attention in pop culture, so that's not where it comes from, although there may be some undertones of jealousy among other players who envy Beckham's crossover success.
There's no way to test this hypothesis, but if we go on to win a Super Bowl with Beckham, the narrative will suddenly shift, in dramatic fashion, to fawning over his "maturity", along with greater emphasis on his *real* positive attributes, like work ethic (fact), practice habits (fact), leadership in the locker room (guys look up to him), off-field charity work, etc.
IMO, winning is what will shift the paradigm.
That’s not funny..... in fact it’s pretty stupid
Also, while it’s close, Brown is the better player so there’s that too.
Brown will be on another team in short order.
Where should I send the rent check for living in your head?
If Odell did what AB did, it would definitely be 100x more polarizing on ESPN, but that's just the market.
Neither of them will probably win a Super Bowl because the last diva WR to win a Super Bowl was Michael Irvin.
At this point I'd settle for a winning record with Beckham.

The same place Beckham sends his for living in yours. :)

Basically the same? Has OBJ ever broadcast his coach live from the locker room after a game? Walked out on his team? Refused to answer his coach's and owners calls? How about bailing on a must win to make the playoffs game?
OBJ has certainly had his share of missteps but I think they pale in comparison to what Brown has done.
I love how hard he plays, and i think he is a good person. I just hate the fucking circus that comes along with having him...which is undoubtedly intensified by this media market.
On a football note - if this line can be a little better than average next year, is there any way teams can stop this offense? I think we're close to finally seeing how good the offense can be, but i'll believe it when i see it. 8 in the box...at your own risk...

Take a few minutes to read through this and let me know if you still think so when you finish.
Not so much... - ( New Window )

The Lil Wayne thing was stupid, but how big of a deal was it really? It was a "thing" for like 2 days - the coach addressed it with him behind closed doors and that was the end of it.
There was nothing else even remotely "circus" like this year as a result of having Beckham on the team.
Some of you guys come up with some strange narratives. I read posts like these and feel like Beckham must have been arrested or done something really distracting that I somehow missed... but it's just people mostly referencing the same tired issues from years past... Josh Norman... the boat... the kicking net.
I guess the Lil Wayne thing will get added to that group - we'll probably be talking about that one 5 years down the road still even though it was barely even a blip on the radar in the overall context of the season.
The Lions sucked with Barry Sanders, so clearly he was a losing player and they would have been better off trading him. Dan Marino and Jim Kelly never won Superbowls, so getting rid of them would have been the best decision.
Does anyone who has watched more than 2 or 3 football games ever not know that no individual carries an NFL team to a winning record? A player can be exceptional while the team does not win because the parts around him are poor.
You may not like Beckham but to say he is the reason this team doesn’t win when he has been the only player you had to give two shits about the last few years until Barkley came in, is just a logic fail of stunning proportions.
Some of you guys need to step back from the drama and give some thought before you post.

I've tried to explain this several times... it doesn't get through.
I keep reading the same stupid point about the Giants record with Beckham over and over again as if it's an indictment on the player and not the rest of the team or the people who were in charge of constructing the roster.
It's backwards logic being used by people looking for strikes against Beckham since the Norman and kicking net things have lost some luster.
Examples of really good players on really bad teams in this league are endless.
A football team never sucked because it had an outstanding player on it, but many have lost because they didn't have enough of them.

Come up with your own material, champ. You've been playing your one hit into the ground.

For once I agree with you.
In the NBA you could make a valid argument but the reason the Giants have won 8 games in 2 years is mostly because of a lack of talent and probably partly some poor coaching.
Now if the argument is that Odell doesn't elevate that talent around him either on the field or in the locker room then that is a different argument altogether. Is that even his responsibility? Who knows.
Michael Strahan allegedly secretly taped his wife's sister getting dressed, and then paid her hush money.
Michael Boley was both suspended for a game for domestic violence prior to signing, and convicted of child abuse for his actions as a Giant.
Knowing too much about the thoughts, meditations, and actions of players doesn't always help with the whole liking them thing.
Sometimes players are idiots, and other times something quite worse.
Beckham seems to be quite a bit less weird, dangerous, or unreliable than a number of players this team has employed.
he actually said he wants to be in new york and would not of gotten a tattoo of new york if he did not want to be here...
as for criticizing eli that is also bullshit, he states clearly how he believes in eli and knows no matter what he is going to show up and play hard..
How about santinio Holmes?
Does Shockey count?
AJ Green
Julio Jones
Calvin Johnson
And a hundred other "business like" WRs
Neither of them will probably win a Super Bowl because the last diva WR to win a Super Bowl was Michael Irvin.
Keyshawn Johnson (2002)
Shannon Sharpe
Jeremy Shockey
Percy Harvin
Plaxico Burress
And not sure OBJ is more 'drama' than Rob Gronkowski over last 3 years either

Outside of Keyshawn Those are huge reaches. In fact all of them where washed up or over the hill and “matured” when they had their super bowl. Outside of: Shannon Sharpe wasn’t a distraction diva until after his career. I followed the broncos religiously then. And Plax actually was similar to that as he seemed to avoid being a media diva and bought into the team play during his Super Bowl run.
Shockley WAS a horrible diva and until he was humbled by being a bench player and washed up did he shut up and win. What a waste bc I loved him at first.
The one name thst does come to mind for me is
Rob Gronkowski. He is a diva and a distraction yet pats did manage to win w him. Which I actually was surprised to see.

It's hard for a WR to elevate his teammates - I think a QB is really the only guy on a football team who can kind of move the needle on his own in terms of wins and losses. And even to do that, the QB has to be other worldly. I think Eli played at that level in 2011 in several games.
The Giants just have a massive talent issue - they have for years now. The 2nd half of Jerry Reese's tenure was majorly damaging to this franchise. You can't be a winning team with the amount of holes we have, so when I see people constantly pin the Giants record over the last few years on Beckham, it makes my head spin because it makes no sense.
Eli Manning is a 2x Super Bowl MVP - he's obviously a guy who was able to win on the biggest stage in the biggest spot. He was also on some very bad football teams - and not just at the very end of his career. Does that make him a loser?
Is Saquon Barkley a loser because he played on a 5 win team as a rookie?
The only problem we have with Beckham and Barkley is that we don't have more players as good as they are. There is no reason under the sun why either player can't be on a winning football team. Hell, we won 11 games 2 seasons ago with Beckham being our entire offense.
Many questionable personas have won Super Bowls, and many more will. Talent is and will always be king in this league and the Giants simply don't have enough of it right now.

lol that's an insane take on Plaxico. But I'm sure he injured his leg Super Bowl week in 'the shower'. Any other bridges to sell?
My recollection of Sharpe was he was a diva throughout his career. It's not a reach.
In any event I think it's a 'major reach' to compare OBJ to the likes of TO and other historical divas. How many Receivers in league history would you even consider divas then if Sharpe wasn't one? And let's compare that number ... which is apparently fewer than 10-15.... to how hard it is to win a Super Bowl (1 in 32 odds)
It's easier to draw causation for some to simple factors, and even more enticing to rope in the people they don't like.
The Giants are bad because they have had a run of ineffective coaching and ineffective talent acquisition since 2013 or so.
The Giants have succeeded with some real shit heads on the team, who have been shit heads in the locker room and on and off the field.
Losing brings the worst out of people -- lack of effort, lack of focus, increased selfishness, decreased dedication.
Get better players and coaching. There will still be plenty of shit heads on the team, but they will win and act out less.
Beckham has influenced several games on his own. Even his most obsessive detractors know this. We won games on his back in 2016.
The point is that one WR isn't going to turn a 3 win football team into a 10 win football team. It doesn't work like that and it's disingenuous, crappy rationale to decide that a player isn't worth a shit if the team he's on is losing games.
By your logic, the Rams should have let Aaron Donald walk because he wasn't moving the needle on his own when Fisher was there. Thankfully for the Rams, they understood that they needed more talent - not less. They paid Donald, added more talent, and now they're one of the best teams in the league.
Polluting a roster with league average players and refusing to pay top flight talent isn't how you win in this league.
He and Barkley in a functional offense, with just a league average cast are a scary proposition.
But you have to assemble that league average cast. There were far too many failure points. No offense can truly function with characters like Wheeler, Pulley, Omameh, Flowers, Greco, Latimer, Simonson, Stewart, R. Shepard, Bennie Fowler getting meaningful snaps.
The Giants were 2nd to last in the NFL with 30 sacks this year.
The Raiders had thirteen.
13 sacks in 16 games. Almost hard to have a pass rush that poor.
But hey, at least they've got those draft picks now...
Or the Ravens game in 2016 he won taking a slant to the house.
If that's not impacting a game, we have to have a dialogue about what impacting a game is.
Influence or determine? Of course OBJ influences games. Until this year he was the only player on the team anyone had to defend or gameplan, yet he still produced.
If you think Beckham should determine games, why don't you point out the other NFL players who are single handedly winning games for their teams over the course of the season. I can't name one.
We all get that you don't like Beckham, but you are letting your emotions override logic with these posts. This idea of having a team 53 Mark Herzlichs making league minimum to win a championship is becoming some sort of odd religious belief.
