Adam Schefter & #8207; Verified account @AdamSchefter 32m32 minutes ago More The Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger are expected to restructure and extend the veteran quarterback's deal before the new league year begins March 13, per league sources. More cap room if the team decides to trade WR Antonio Brown. |
“I have talked to a couple people in the Pittsburgh Steelers organization and they told me this has been lingering on,” Jones said. “I’ve been told in meetings [Roethlisberger] would take shots at AB. Like, ‘I don’t got to throw you the ball,’ and things like that. Wednesday in practice, I heard he ran the wrong route, Big Ben threw the ball on the ground, said, ‘Get him out of here. Get somebody else in there,’ and that’s when AB was at his boiling point and that’s when he went off.”
Jones suggested that Brown doesn’t respect Roethlisberger enough to talk face-to-face with him about their issues.
“I do think it’s hard to sit down and have a conversation with a man you do not respect or trust,” Jones said.

Roeth is coming off arguably his best NFL season, extending him is a no brainer.

Not sure if this was his best season. He’s not the same QB on the road.
I agree. If this is true. Big Ben is a bigger jerk than I thought. Now I'm really glad Giants didn't draft him.
Pitt won’t just dump brown. Which means he’s probably a Steeler next season.

They passed the ball more than anybody. Not exactly the most favorable results. Led the league in INT's which happens but you have incredible talent in that offense.
They won more games when they committed to running the ball.
Meaningful? With a fucking prick who shows zero respect, for one of the greatest wideouts in the game?
Let Brown have his trade, and let's see what kind of numbers Ben could put up next year.
Big Ben deserves the extension. He has been playing really good ball.

Roeth being a douche and Brown not man enough to have a meaningful conversation with him about it.

I have to have meaningful conversations all the time at work with people who are complete asses or that I don't respect. Be a freaking grownup and do your job.
Someone needs to be the bigger man there.
Easily could have beaten Cleveland in Week 1. Except he had 5 turnovers.
Could have easily beaten OAK if he didn't "Ben" his way through two quarters.
Denver game he tried to pass constantly on the GL and they lost when he threw a pick to a DL.
Lost to the Ravens when Ben decides to throw 47 times and scoring 14 points. Connor ran nine times.
The Steelers did BETTER when they than the ball. That's a fact. Stop passing so much and they could have easily been in the playoffs. That team was way too good to miss it. And he was a reason why they did.

It's really fascinating how quickly the Brown, Bell era in Pitt deteriorated.

He threw the ball nearly 700 times, 16 ints, whether it led the league this year or not isn't a bad number.
He's a much, much more efficient QB than he was earlier in his career. He's not getting sacked 40 times a year, fumbling a ton. He started 16 games for only the 4th time in his career.
Bottomline he threw the ball 675 times, for 5K yards, a good completion percentage, and set a career high in TDs.
No commentary on his attitude, the state of the team etc., but pretty clear to me it was a career year.
Please stop with the “now let’s extend Eli” nonsense.
Please stop with the “now let’s extend Eli” nonsense.
You can say the same exact thing about Eli. And pretty much every QB in the league. Brilliant observation though.
But thanks for you comment...
The Giants went 5-11.
They are in a window now.
Roethlisberger is a year younger and has literally a full season less wear on his arm. Extending him is so, so much different than Manning.
Why would the Giants even think about doing the same with Eli?
This team has zero chance to win a title next year. Extending Eli would be a fireable offense
By restructuring Eli they free up cap money to build the trenches...and flexibility for 2020...

His defense by extending drives on offense and keeping them rested.
It has reached well past dragging the eagle status at this point.
Not sure if this was in reply to what I said above but I was referring to Pts Allowed/Game....Pitt ranked #16 and Giants #23...
In Yds/Allowed yes Pitt was ranked 6th and Giants were 24th...even bigger gap there...
Yeah sadly it's true. Ben is a much better QB (when healthy) at this point. Not even close.
Are you fucking stupid?
But thanks for you comment...
Not during the championship runs. The defense held the best offense in NFL history to 14 points...
2007, NY Giants Defense ranked 17th out of 32 teams for the year.
2011, NY Giants Defense ranked 25th out of 32 teams for the year.
Yes, both years the Defense went on runs the end of the year, but over Eli's the career, he's only had two years where the Defense cracked the top 10...2016 and 2008. All other years were 13th or worst, often in the 20's, and for at least two years, close to last.
