1) Almost a guarantee Eli will be the QB in 2019. Only question is, do they extend him to lower the cap hit?

2) Another veteran QB is out of the question. Not happening.

3) No chance they draft Haskins at 6, clearly not the BPA. Paul's sources say 15 is the highest value for Haskins.

4) Very likely to go Front 7 on Defense with the #6 pick.

Haskins over rated
Bruner4329 : 1/5/2019 3:39 pm : link
He is not a top 15 pick. People get sucked in watching him stand in the pocket all day until someone gets open. This aint happening in the NFL. Ohio State is not the pros especially given the wide edge they have in talent to almost everyone they play.
Extending
Archer : 1/5/2019 3:44 pm : link
If the Giants convert Eli’s salary next year into a bonus it can be prorated over the life of the contract

This is a way to pay Eli his contracted amount but significantly reduce the CAP impact

Extending is not a benefit to Eli
Haskin has great arm talent and will be a stud
GoBlue6599 : 1/5/2019 3:45 pm : link
The Giants would be foolish to pass on him and I don’t think they will.. The Giants will have a loaded young offense and the cap space they save from cutting Eli can be used to sure up other areas on the team
It’s time for the Giants to move on.. it’s been time

This team has zero chance to compete for a title next year. If they want to keep Eli for 2018 fine but extending him makes zero sense on any level. Eli should take a pay cut or hit the road

Looking at it short sighted. Maybe the cash we free up in 2019 lets us pick up a player or 2 to help on the OL or on defense that benefits us for a few years. even if you have to take a hit in 2020 it may be worth it. Let the process play out.

Dotinno is a bit of a blow hard IMO.
JerrysKids : 1/5/2019 3:51 pm : link
This team needs to move on from Eli Manning plain and simple he is a bad QB at this point of his carrier. Nick Foles is a excellent veteran QB in his prime and is who we need to set our sights on. Kicking the can down the road is a big mistake time to move on from Eli happened 3 years ago.
Dottino probably is repeating
GeorgeAdams33 : 1/5/2019 4:02 pm : link
someone else' opinion, but everyone except BBI wants to forget that QBs are always over-drafted. If a guy is worthy of the 6th pick in January you can bet he'll go top 3 and if a guy is ranked as a top 15 he'll go in the top ten, etc.. I think Haskins is a top 25 who might go top 15, but I know about as much as any of you at this point.

Milton : 1/5/2019 7:18 pm : link
...or even the top five. But not by Big Blue. He is everything that Gettleman warns against when talking about taking a QB in the first round. He is more likely to take Jones, Lock, and Grier than he is to take Haskins, although I think Lock and Grier are longshots (but not Jones).

Of course, we are still early in the process, so my opinion is subject to change as more "data points" emerge.

Not true.

1) Dottino said repeatedly during the 2018 offseason that the Giants were not going QB at #2 overall. He was 100% right about that.

2) Dottino threw out Eli Apple as a dark horse pick at #10 overall in 2016. He was correct again - after Conklin/Floyd were gone, Apple was indeed the dark horse pick.

Haskins' O-Line gives him an eternity to throw the ball. He has so much space in the pocket, always has room to step up in the pocket as his massive interior OL blocks out the sun.

The Giants can do whatever they want at QB. But Haskins is going to be an NFL star. He is accurate with the football and can move through his progressions. He may have things to work on, but who doesn't? I know it's not your assessment, but I don't trust the Giants' front office to do anything correctly.

Haskins isn't good. Standing back there will all day to throw waiting for a receiver to get wide open doesn't make one a good QB. He is big and slow, everything he does is slow. He throws ducks at the slightest hint of pressure. He is horrendous under pressure.

to be so definitive before combine and private workouts for QB's to me seems unrealistic..

Most people didnt have Baker Mayfield going #1 this time last year.

Most people didnt have Wentz going as high this time a few years ago.

Ill just sit back and enjoy the ride..

Most college QB are in shotgun, not sure what that has to do with his ability to read coverages and complete passes. So you’re saying Haskins wasn’t pressured all season? I think you just don’t like him as a QB. What’s funny is if anyone criticizes Manning for playing poorly, the 1st response is usually how bad the O-line is and no one could play well behind our line. But yet your position on Haskins not being a good QB is because he performs when given time. Got it.
It only stands to reason

never understood the 'QB not worth it at 6, but ok at 15' thing. If you are picking him to be a starter, he either is starter material, or he isn't. if you think he is, then pick him whenever. In a perfect world, trade down and pick him. But, he doesn't get any better just because his draft slot is better value, and at QB, being the man enough for the job is all that matters.

This exactly. Surprised to see more people don't get this, or so many forget that scouting is an inexact process at best, and anyway guys are ranked on tiers of +/- equal value...

A guy that stands out on a tier all by himself like Barkley last year is very, very rare, like an LT.

Where was Aaron Rodgers picked? At 20? Brett Favre was a second round selection? If you think the guy clearly has a realistic shot to be your next franchise QB you don't sweat the 9 slots between 6 and 15. That's just Stoopid!

but I've heard the same thing regarding Haskins.

Urban Meyer System QB.

0 chance Gettleman drafts Haskins.

So does Eli Manning but yet he’s treated like the GOAT around here.

Where have you been for the last 15 years? Eli is the greatest Giants QB of all time. The last year or two does not define a 15 year career.

extends Eli to lower his cap hit for 2018 he should be fired on the spot.

This team has zero chance to compete for a title next year. If they want to keep Eli for 2018 fine but extending him makes zero sense on any level. Eli should take a pay cut or hit the road

I am far from a CBA expert but I think it prevents players from taking straight salary cuts.

So what? Maybe at one point Webb actually was considered the heir apparent and then that changed for some reason. Personnel decisions are fluid and always changing.

Some of you sound like jaded ex lovers.

Extending Eli to reduce the salary amount for next year
PatersonPlank : 1/7/2019 11:08 am : link
doesn't mean committing to Eli. A contract can be written many ways. if Eli agrees to a salary cut this may be the vehicle to do it, and then put an out clause in 2020 or 2021.
