Paul Dottino on WFAN this morning

SaqBar999 : 1/5/2019 1:16 pm
1) Almost a guarantee Eli will be the QB in 2019. Only question is, do they extend him to lower the cap hit?

2) Another veteran QB is out of the question. Not happening.

3) No chance they draft Haskins at 6, clearly not the BPA. Paul's sources say 15 is the highest value for Haskins.

4) Very likely to go Front 7 on Defense with the #6 pick.

Almost gauranteed that Webb is Eli heir apparent at qb?

How did that go for him?
ehhhh ....

We will hear a lot of opinions between now and the draft. Would love to know what the asshats are hearing.
That's true Micky but I don't think anyone has to have a connection to
Blue21 : 1/5/2019 1:21 pm : link
the Giants to figure that out. Many if not most on BBI have been saying this right along me included.
That is the Eli part not the Webb part LOL

I would agree with all 4

Never trust a draft class that is

top heavy in DL's like this one.
What does that mean "15 is the highest value"?
Strahan91 : 1/5/2019 1:30 pm : link
As in, he doesn't think he'll go before the 15th pick or on the Giants draft board. Both would be asinine at this point in time. If he's as high as the 15th best player in the draft then given the position, he'd absolutely be worth the 6th pick, probably a top 3 pick.
It all makes sense if they are all in on Eli
Jim in Forest Hills : 1/5/2019 1:32 pm : link
I hope they entertain offers to trade down though with an eye on 2020. But don't force a QB this year if it isn't right.
Did he spend

Half his interview dissing any other media outlets that give a negative slant to Eli or the Giants. That seems to be his main role on BBK

Dottino s loyalty to Eli and the Giants in general seems to lead to very slanted reporting on his part. Don’t put much stock on his POV

It's already been mentioned...
pierce58 : 1/5/2019 1:44 pm : link
but he lost me as an insider after his repeated insistence on Webb being the heir apparent to Eli. This wasn't something he casually said once. I listened to months and months of him waxing poetic about how much the Giants love Webb, he is next in line, etc..and then he was cut.

Listen, what he says now may play out. But he has no better clue than anyone else.

For someone who is constantly around the organization, it’s almost amazing how wrong Dottino consistently is. Pay him no mind.

Not to mention that if he's already as high as 15 then why can't he move up to 6 by April after the combine and all the workouts.

but Haskins at #6. That pick would be the definition of putting your team in QB hell.

Build that defense. The talent level on the Giant defense is putrid.

You don't have a "brutally honest" conversation with someone to tell them you are "all in" on them.
It's awfully early for draft accuracy

but I've heard the same thing regarding Haskins.
Have spoken to some hs/college coaches
edavisiii : 1/5/2019 2:28 pm : link
and they said Haskins is good but over rated by the media and will be drafted too high due to lack of QB talent. "everything he does looks slow!" said one coach. One coach has a former player starting in the Big Ten. Also said Michigan players have said Harbaugh is running them into the ground. "we were exhausted by the time we had to pay the bowl game." Interesting stuff! PS, I am not an asshat! Just a former HS assistant who knows a lot of coaches.

The Giants can do whatever they want at QB. But Haskins is going to be an NFL star. He is accurate with the football and can move through his progressions. He may have things to work on, but who doesn't? I know it's not your assessment, but I don't trust the Giants' front office to do anything correctly.
I think Haskins will be a mid 1st rounder

never understood the 'QB not worth it at 6, but ok at 15' thing. If you are picking him to be a starter, he either is starter material, or he isn't. if you think he is, then pick him whenever. In a perfect world, trade down and pick him. But, he doesn't get any better just because his draft slot is better value, and at QB, being the man enough for the job is all that matters.
It's about sticking to your board
JonC : 1/5/2019 2:52 pm : link
or relaxing your criteria, imv.

Is always wrong the guy said just a few weeks ago with joe and Evan how he has yet to watch any film on Haskins and does not know much about him.. when did this moron become Mel Kiper??? Last year he fed us that Bradley Chubb would be the pick at 2 and how you don’t take running backs that early he also said how Webb is the future how did that work. I use to like the guy but over the last few years he has become an annoying shill. He works for the team and will never ever say anything negative about anyone on the giants. Eli will be the starter until the year 2025 according to him. Also he will block you on Twitter if say something he does not agree with. The guy is a tool bag

With Eli, the Giants need a pass rush desperately and a QB to develop. Without Eli, they need a QB for 2019 and a pass rush, both desperately. And either way, a center and a right tackle.
If Gettleman
MookGiants : 1/5/2019 3:05 pm : link
extends Eli to lower his cap hit for 2018 he should be fired on the spot.

This team has zero chance to compete for a title next year. If they want to keep Eli for 2018 fine but extending him makes zero sense on any level. Eli should take a pay cut or hit the road
You really can't get a good feel....
MOOPS : 1/5/2019 3:27 pm : link
on where the QBs will go until after the dog and pony show in Indy.
This isn’t intended as an insult to Dottino.....
Reb8thVA : 1/5/2019 3:35 pm : link
But all that information is obvious.

— There is no one else currently on the roster to play QB next year or even the year after at.

— If I’m John Mara, it makes to sense to me to spend at a minimum 12-15 million on a journeyman QB, I think I’ll pass. I’d rather improve my other weaknesses and take my Chances with Eli.

— Haskins is not going to be worth the #6 pick

— The strength of this draft dovetails nicely with our primary needs.

Then again Eli could retire throwing a wrench into all of this
Haskins over rated
Bruner4329 : 1/5/2019 3:39 pm : link
He is not a top 15 pick. People get sucked in watching him stand in the pocket all day until someone gets open. This aint happening in the NFL. Ohio State is not the pros especially given the wide edge they have in talent to almost everyone they play.
Extending
Archer : 1/5/2019 3:44 pm : link
If the Giants convert Eli’s salary next year into a bonus it can be prorated over the life of the contract

This is a way to pay Eli his contracted amount but significantly reduce the CAP impact

Extending is not a benefit to Eli
Haskin has great arm talent and will be a stud
GoBlue6599 : 1/5/2019 3:45 pm : link
The Giants would be foolish to pass on him and I don’t think they will.. The Giants will have a loaded young offense and the cap space they save from cutting Eli can be used to sure up other areas on the team
It’s time for the Giants to move on.. it’s been time

Looking at it short sighted. Maybe the cash we free up in 2019 lets us pick up a player or 2 to help on the OL or on defense that benefits us for a few years. even if you have to take a hit in 2020 it may be worth it. Let the process play out.

Dotinno is a bit of a blow hard IMO.
JerrysKids : 1/5/2019 3:51 pm : link
This team needs to move on from Eli Manning plain and simple he is a bad QB at this point of his carrier. Nick Foles is a excellent veteran QB in his prime and is who we need to set our sights on. Kicking the can down the road is a big mistake time to move on from Eli happened 3 years ago.
Dottino probably is repeating
GeorgeAdams33 : 1/5/2019 4:02 pm : link
someone else' opinion, but everyone except BBI wants to forget that QBs are always over-drafted. If a guy is worthy of the 6th pick in January you can bet he'll go top 3 and if a guy is ranked as a top 15 he'll go in the top ten, etc.. I think Haskins is a top 25 who might go top 15, but I know about as much as any of you at this point.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Haskins go in the top ten...
Milton : 1/5/2019 7:18 pm : link
...or even the top five. But not by Big Blue. He is everything that Gettleman warns against when talking about taking a QB in the first round. He is more likely to take Jones, Lock, and Grier than he is to take Haskins, although I think Lock and Grier are longshots (but not Jones).

Of course, we are still early in the process, so my opinion is subject to change as more "data points" emerge.

I hope someone does grab him in the top 5. Just makes another quality player available for us at 6.
