Since every QB is a huge gamble/risk and no one knows for certain which ones will pan out, does that mean you don’t take a chance on the most important position in Football? Whether you like it or not Eli’s career is ending.
I've had about enough of these idiot "journalists."
IMO Haskins reminds me of Roethlisberger, aka big rapist.
He's got tremendous deep ball accuracy and loves to shuffle himself around in the pocket on breakdown and offscript plays. He's a thick body and isnt easily taken down.
I love his intermediate accuracy too and he's got a lot of throws in him where he's fitting it into tight windows on good coverage and can deliver the ball with a variety of ways-- he can float it, hes got a good arm for flat laser beams, and can throw on the run.
I know a lot of guys here would have an issue with drafting a black quarterback, but i would be ecstatic to have him as the next guy.
fwiw, last year I thought mayfield & lamar jackson --gap-- rosen darnold --- allen were my rankings. You cannot teach accuracy and being able to throw on the run. Mayfield was easily my #1 and Jackson my #2 because i felt he improved every year.
Darnold consistently in college when scrambling forced the ball downfield and often threw it into double and triple coverage. His film is littered with plays that make you want to tear your eyes out. He couldnt read defenses and didnt anticipate enough for me. I was really down on him after he didnt show proper improvement in year 2.
Haskins has very clean film in this regard. I would put him ahead of Mayfield as a prospect on my list because of his consistent ability to make the right plays. He's not wandering like Darnold did, Josh Allen did. Every playcall he knows where the ball is supposed to go and there isnt alot of guessing going on in his head.

I have to ask, what the fuck are you talking about when you just randomly throw in the line "I know a lot of guys here would have an issue with drafting a black quarterback, but i would be ecstatic to have him as the next guy."?

Ask JonC who/how he is connected. He likely won't tell you. But he's not wrong. He's careful in what he reveals. He's no Slade. But when he mentions the thinking inside 1925 Giants Drive, it is worth paying attention to.
“He’s no Slade.” LOL.
I love that guy...
The Slade reference was more about style. JonC, Hitdog, et al. will post a comment that is succinct and discreet in a thread discussion. Slade drops a thread bomb and 300 comments later he is no where to be found. Nevermind that he is never right, he seems to thrive on the attention. The Others just share the info. They don't care who reads it.
NO.
I'm not sold on Haskins -- look at how much time he has when he's back there!!! The guy will be running for his life in blue!
Gettleman is consistent in staying true to his board
He said that he always selects the best valued player in the first round
Even with the sixth pick much less the second pick the player must have Pro Bowl potential
I also find it hard to believe that Gettleman will draft a QB in the first round unless he trades down to the latter part of the first round
Lamar Jackson who was drafted 32 nd was a better prospect then any of the QBs available this year
Actually he isn't. There were a number of NFL teams that wanted to draft Jackson as a WR and did not see him as a QB. So to say Jackson was a better QB prospect than any QB in this draft is silly. He is more a RB playing QB than QB.
He got a bunch of Giants fans to slap fight each other over a mock draft in January. He did what he wanted. People to read his story and flail their arms around screaming.
Allen has about 2x the throwing power and running ability while Jones has better touch and accuracy (much better QB coaching).
Allen is the guy you take Top 10 because of the physical talent; Jones is a fringe Day 2 pick because he is more a finished product with a far more limited ceiling

Did you watch any Ohio State games this year?
Let’s assume you did. Outside of the second half of the Washington game, find me a game where Haskins’s oline broke down and he wasn’t afforded a consistently clean pocket. And let me know which games he played where he didn’t have receivers consistently breaking free - by yards - of the coverage.
I’m not saying the guy isn’t a good prospect. But he’s very difficult to evaluate because he played under great circumstances with that offense in a very down year for the B1G.
NO.

So what college QB prospect performed well while being pressured that you have a better feeling for?
George, how is Haskins (if rated the top QB in this draft) not the better value since he plays the most important position on the field ( also a BIG position of need) vs anybody else projected as a top 6 pick?
Donnie, if not last year or this year we draft a 1st round QB then when? We have a tone of needs but not every need is filled through the draft. Right tackle is a need but who’s he protecting? If we finish with a better record this year we’re going to have to trade up in next years draft, just curious why there’s so much resistance if we trade up for Haskins.
Trade down? So you don’t think Jacksonville needs a QB and they happen to pick right after us?

So you think you know on Jan 6th absolutely which QB will go first, which teams will absolutely select one in the first round and that Haskins is absolutely that guy?
This make you absolutely the smartest person in the world...
Cinny, raiders, Miami, Pats, NO, Denver.

Great point on Darnold yet most here wanted us to draft him.

would have a problem with drafting an African American QB with the 6th pick or even the 1st pick. The only problem is that Haskins is not better value than anybody being projected as a top six pick.

Just because he is a QB does not mean he is better than Josh Allen(for example). If both were equal in ability(i.e., elite starter), Haskins would be better value. The question is if Haskins is worth the #6 pick, is he good enough to fulfill what a QB taken with the 6th pick should be. I like Haskins as much as any QB in the draft. I am not yet sure he has what it takes to be a starting QB in the NFL at elite status. I am pretty certain that Josh Allen will be an elite ER in the NFL (well more certain than I would be of Haskins being an elite QB).

I didn’t say the QB is better player, I simply said the QB is the better value if you need one (which no one can argue we don’t). This is a similar situation to last year when we took Saquon and most posters here lost their minds when we past on Sam Darnold. Now a year later all of a sudden the QB (if it’s Haskins) is in question because his offensive line blocked for him or whatever else people have issues with. Sam Darnold in his rookie year in the NFL has made some of the same bonehead mistakes he did when he was in college but yet there are some that still would have drafted him regardless.

Jimmy, I don’t know just like everyone else here. What I know is Eli’s career is ending sooner rather than later, Jacksonville benched and has somewhat publicly made it know they intend to move on from Blake Bortles (free agency or draft) and that I’m sick of throwing away seasons just to get some perfect QB that doesn’t exist.
His game is interesting but Ohio State QBs and the NFL do not mesh well...

I agree with you Jimmy about the concern over Ohio State QB’s not being good pro’s but the same can be said for USC QB’s or even Duke QB’s (for those who love Jones).
Bruner, I asked a previous poster to name a college QB prospect that they evaluated that they feel was a better prospect that performed well under pressure (No reply yet). I’d like to ask you the same question?
And I like Jones the best. I think he gives you the best package of everything. Reads the field well, makes pre snap adjustments, accurate at each level, he’s a plus athlete, well coached, smart, tough, and a leader in the locker room.
You watch a lot of Haskin’s games and the think that will jump out is he generally has all day to throw. He can sit back and hold the ball for as long as he wants. And even with that his decision making and placement is inconsistent. Whenever he is pressured it all comes unraveled even worse. Looking at him I get straight Byron Leftwitch vibes.
Jones Reminds me of Mitch Trubisky. And while the opinions on Trubisky are split (I personally like him and expect him to continue to improve) Id thin a lot of you would take a Trubisky like talent to start 2019.
Quote:
So let me get this. Giants are going to trade up from 6 to 2 that will cost them a lot of capital in draft picks which we need, for a QB that at best is a middle first round pick. Come on wake up people. This aint happening Haskins may be the best QB in the draft but he is not a sure thing by far. If you watch the games sure he looks great, standing in the pocket for 10-15 seconds showing poise and then throwing a pass to a wide open WR. Fact is this is not reality. Ohio State talent is heads above most opponents they play. This is not the NFL. he is raw and unproven. Would like to see what he can do when he actually gets rushed and has a hand in his face. If DG did this then he really should be fired.

you wouldn’t want a 24 yr old mobile QB with the 3rd highest QBR behind only Mahomes and Brees? Interesting.
Not him, nope.
LOL....Exactly on point and I would be one of them

I think Jones has made a number of very good plays under pressure. The but he can’t both throw AND catch the ball. His WRs were trash.
What game or games did Jones face this past year where you say he performed well under duress?

so you wouldn’t take Trubisky over Eli or all the FA QBs or the Draft QBs this year? Good thing you just watch football.
Eli, maybe. Look Trubisky is nothing special, IMV. If you like him fine.

Not with a 1st round pick. Lauletta could do that.
Dutch, with all due respect, it would cost an arm and a leg to get a premium edge rusher through free agency. How is that working out with Oliviier Vernon? The Giants lost their ballgames in the second half of the season, because of a crappy defense with no pass rush. I firmly believe that DG and PS are very cognizant about the QB situation and where it is heading. They also are very much aware of the lack of talent In the trenches on both sides. You can’t force a draft pick at any position, including QB. I like what I see in Haskins, but as it is pointed out, how is he against a pass rush under pressure? We don’t have enough information to determine that. That is for the scouts to determine though. If DG in PS like him, they will take him.

In this year's upcoming draft none. But that is my point these guys including Haskins are over rated because all people see are him throwing the ball with a clean pocket 99% of the time. Last year I thought Mayfield had exhibited the most pre draft and from what I have seen I think he will be the best of the bunch. IMO jury still out on others. After today I really wonder if Jackson has all the tools to be a good NFL QB. All he has going for him are his legs.
