I'm pretty sure Montanagiant is about as right wing as they come and I doubt B in ALB has a poster of Nancy Pelosi hanging over his bed.
And I agree the gang attacks on here are over the top Â

let's not act like this was the first time TLG injected politics into threads. Not to mention other ridiculous claims about gay club scenes and whatnot. I don't know that he needed to be banned after thinking about it more, but whatever.

That was my point. It must have been a cumulative thing - because as much as Ryan in Albany wants to fake outrage ... joking that a bunch of actors are liberal and will offer their opinions at award shows... is hardly earth shattering.
He'll you have Sonic Youth calling Trump a dictator on a Knicks thread today ... where's the ban Hammer there?

What the hell did I say?
First, let me say I don't think you should be banned. And I don't personally see anything wrong with what you said. I'm just commenting on the inconsistent nature of enforcement, and what I feel is a somewhat draconian use of the ban hammer here on TLG. So while I think your comment was pretty tame, I'm only bringing it up to illustrate that I didn't think TLG's was egregious, either.
You said this:
"You would have been perfect in the late 1930's Germany"
Which is both political and personally insulting. But people also need to have a bit of a thick skin around here.
Reporting TLG for that was lame, IMO.
B in ALB: I guess I don't really pay attention and remember which posters said which thing at such and such time...If his past post history was ban-worthy, he should've been banned for that. Perhaps he was already given a warning that the next minor infraction would do him in, and in that case, I understand. It seemed like in this case he was banned for his post in this thread, and that was the post that was reported, and I just think it was pretty tame.
I do understand that the mods, Eric, and a lot of posters, including myself, want this place to be free from political bullshit that inevitably devolves into a shit-fest that is unpleasant for everyone. Having a site where it is not allowed and the talk is surrounding football and other non-political topics is a great thing about BBI.

The guy essentially said that people should be quiet when dictators take over their country. I was simply making a point that that is very dangerous and we've seen how that can turn out. I didn't call him a nazi, I didn't call Trump a dictator. In hindsight maybe it was in poor taste but I stand by my the intent of what I said.
Thanks for replying, I honestly didn't know what I said would be taken that way.
TLG busts in like the Kool Aid man on a thread with nothing inherently political about it, with nothing remotely political having been brought up in the broadcast at that point.
He wants to get it into it -- and that's exactly the type of character Eric is trying to weed out.
There are a billion avenues to burst your little political veins on -- and thankfully BBI isn't one of them.
thought this year was a little boring. Posting here for a movie that deserves it's own thread. If you have amazon go watch "Leave No Trace." Ben Foster should definitely have been nominated. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes BTW.
Gut wrenching sad movie.
And LG got banned for history of shitty behavior. I miss political threads but shit stirring to provoke internet anger helps nothing here.
I understand, but he essentially said a Hollywood awards show is (surprise) like a political rally. And people are TRIGGERED. lol Again, I think that's funny AF.
I think you continually attempting to claim this one post that you say "triggered" everyone as the reason for his banning when it's been pointed out repeatedly that it wasn't just this one is even funnier, so carry on!
Nobody reported TLG. I was cruising the thread, saw his comment and banned him.
I don't read every thread and every comment. I don't even do all that much policing of the site these days. But when I see something, I will take appropriate action.
TLG has always been someone who likes to stir shit and push the boundaries of what is acceptable here. His comment was an out of the blue political comment on a thread that had no such content and was a clear attempt to spark a political argument. That, combined with his general conduct on the site earned him the ban.
Generally, we're not one and done here, unless your comment is something egregious. Had he said he was sorry and asked back in, we probably would have let him back after a short time out. But he didn't do that. He immediately tried to make a dupe account and sneak back in. So he's done.
If you feel someone is being abusive or otherwise violating the rules, feel free to read out the moderation team. I know this is a difficult to ask in our current, polarized environment, but I would encourage everyone here to think more about the value and health of this community and not so much about scoring points for your particular political team.

I preemptively apologize for any banning that may be in store for me in the future. I will never purposely get banned, it won't happen again.
The comment that finally got him banned did. This was actually a pretty benign post. There were far better reasons for things he has previously posted.

Dupe account. Bahahaha!
RE: Anyne else still think of Arli$$ when they see Sandra Oh? Â
On the whole I feel weird watching these type of shows. It just strikes me as Hollywood getting together, over their bottles of Dom and $100K earrings, patting themselves on their own backs at how great they are. Its always "you are great, no you are great". Then of course the obligatory social justice statement to make them feel better about living in $50M mansions. Its just so artificial to me.
Here's the thing about successful actors/musicians/artists that people tend to forget: a good percentage of them aren't exactly trust fund babies who navigated through life without a care in the world and are now politically outspoken out of some sense of guilt, as so many people imply. A good percentage of them worked shitty jobs while pursuing a career choice that so rarely pans out, probably in opposition to the advice of most people around them and our social fabric at large -- much of which would subtly or overtly criticize them for being deadbeats.
So I can see how most of them would emerge from that phase to success and still carry a bit of political activism that isn't exactly aligned with conservative ethic.
People have a platform; not surprised they take advantage of it Â

RE: People have a platform; not surprised they take advantage of it Â
What bothers me more4 is the number of regular people who give them fawning credence. It's not like it was a MENSA meeting.
The general consensus is the award show was pretty bland, had little to no political or social commentary excitement. Ratings, as has been the trend across all award shows was down.
It kind of sounds like regular people weren't giving much credence and in general fewer people are giving the award shows any attention.
RE: montana is actually sane and open to evidence and counter arguments Â
I do understand that the mods, Eric, and a lot of posters, including myself, want this place to be free from political bullshit that inevitably devolves into a shit-fest that is unpleasant for everyone. Having a site where it is not allowed and the talk is surrounding football and other non-political topics is a great thing about BBI.
I think the exact opposite. I was here when BBI was a real free market of ideas and expression for both football and non-football. And it was great. It was raw, unfiltered, and hugely entertaining.
I got great entertainment out of those who couldn’t handle discourse and cried for help from Eric et al. The fact that website conversation could drive someone upside down was just fascinating to me. This place is a great case study how the pen is mightier than the sword.
The guy that got banned here wrote something that many think about these Hollywood award shows. It was very cliche. Nothing original. Why anyone was so offended by that is a real mystery. Even those who are Liberal would have to agree with the generalization of his remarks.
I read the Washington Post and WSJ every day online. After each article/opinion piece, there are running chat rooms to discuss the topics. The Post is dominated by Liberal support. The WSJ by Conservative support. The Post runs a very, very tight ship of etiquette and expression. The hammmer comes down quickly if you violate the conduct. On the other hand, the WSJ isn’t as tightly wound and it seems more is encouraged over less. So I enjoy that more. Of course, all of this is through my lens... ; )
Anyway, I digress. I accept the BBI rules, whatever the hell they are, but clamor for more speech, not less. And believe in the power of the shun over some punishment where a ban is issued.
I will add this. Someone mentioned there seems to be different standards for different posters. This I agree with. That is manifested daily to those fighting to save us from the ponderous and obtuse... ; )

Movie was annoying. But she was "kinda hot" in it, imo.
I've never ever thought of her as hot. And, I'm an Asianphile.
I don't think she's hot facially, necessarily. Just her whole vibe in that movie. She seemed pretty cool. I also admit I saw the movie once a relatively love time ago.

I reluctantly watched it after my wife and her friend nagged me to and could barely sit through the first half.

is an odd poster, but I wouldn't have banned him, but I don't think many people should be banned.
That Ears Trophy guy was banned after going on a rant using slurs, but he was an obvious Jan 2019 dupe.
I wouldn't have either, FMiC. I thought what he said wasn't even all that controversial or provoking. If a poster gets banned for that, I just don't get why others don't get banned. Just in the Enes Kanter thread, if TLG crossed the line above then here is a list of posters that should also be banned:
JerrysKids
NYG27
Bubba0825
Sonic Youth
Elisha10
kennyd
Some of those comments were way more politically inflammatory then the one here, but literally only one poster spoke up about it and I doubt anyone reported anyone. I wonder why the outrage over TLG's "political" comment was so severe that he was personally insulted but there was no call to ban any of the above posters?
What the hell did I say?
that's what the awards are though and also the biggest factor to winning the awards.
I am offended by comparing the eagles as the positive in any scenario.

On Topic, do you think that the fact it was 3rd/4th redo of this movie, this is what hurt the movie?
I reluctantly watched it after my wife and her friend nagged me to and could barely sit through the first half.
Not my type of movie.
honestly, the formula was your typical formula.
just comparing the two, BP actually had an effect on getting people to care about this person.
That was my point. It must have been a cumulative thing - because as much as Ryan in Albany wants to fake outrage ... joking that a bunch of actors are liberal and will offer their opinions at award shows... is hardly earth shattering.
He'll you have Sonic Youth calling Trump a dictator on a Knicks thread today ... where's the ban Hammer there?

let's not act like this was the first time TLG injected politics into threads. Not to mention other ridiculous claims about gay club scenes and whatnot. I don't know that he needed to be banned after thinking about it more, but whatever.

B in Alb: You're such a Fucking turd. Can someone ban this asshole already?
christian: How does always being a turd work out in real life?
montanagiant: You're an idiot.
This is just in this thread. Two of these same posters constantly attack other posters but someone gets banned for stating that hollywood awards shows are like democratic rallies!! Such a stretch! Only one reason he got banned and its because he is right wing and the typical left wingers on this site scream and tattletale when their views are questioned.
I'm pretty sure Montanagiant is about as right wing as they come and I doubt B in ALB has a poster of Nancy Pelosi hanging over his bed.
LOL, actually I consider myself a moderate Dem..

Dupe account. Bahahaha!
Yup, same here.

No worries Ron
The general consensus is the award show was pretty bland, had little to no political or social commentary excitement. Ratings, as has been the trend across all award shows was down.
It kind of sounds like regular people weren't giving much credence and in general fewer people are giving the award shows any attention.
Thanks, MD nice of you to say that.
