Deandre Baker

Ned In Atlanta : 1/6/2019 9:47 pm
I know a lot of the pre draft talk seems to be two camps: OL/DL or qb. I realize that a successor to Eli and beefing up the fronts are priority 1 and 1A. With that being said, I’m hopping they don’t force a qb pick here. From all accounts the 2020 qb class will be very good with Herbert, Fromm and Tua. I know DG never trades down, but stocking up on draft ammo for next year could reap major rewards. And while DL and edge rusher is a dire need, an aging Janoris Jankins, BW Webb and young unknowns like Haley and Sam Beal won’t get mistaken for the legion of boom. Living in Athens and being married to a Georgia alum and diehard dawgs fan I watch a lot of football. Deandre Baker is an absolute stud, future lockdown corner IMO. Would a trade down and selection of him be a remote thrower for BBI?
Would not be a horrible idea

but would require this regime conceding that this team can't compete in 2018 and having a long term approach. I don't see that happening.

is a huge need for this team right up there with QB and DE. CB is a bigger problem for the future than even OL is

Touché. So pumped for another “retool not rebuild”
the smart move
MookGiants : 1/6/2019 9:55 pm : link
would be to punt 2019. Gettleman is unlikely to want to do that and I can guarantee Shurmur wont, because he knows he'll be out of a job.

Start Lauletta for 16 games and go 3-13 and get one of the top QBs next year
I don’t agree with creating a losing culture.
DonnieD89 : 1/6/2019 10:08 pm : link
This team did very well in getting together and creating a good locker room vibe. Going 3-13 again would be a disaster.
Face facts,
Doomster : 1/6/2019 10:09 pm : link
with all these holes, it's STILL a rebuild.....
Even if we traded down
Dutch77 : 1/6/2019 10:40 pm : link
Why would you want to waste a 1st round pick on a Corner when there a more pressing needs? And as for the not wanting to reach for a QB this year, how do you expect to get one of those 2020 QB’s without having another 3-13, 5-11 season or giving up future picks to get into the top 10?

They were 5-11. They need better players, period. If they had a good locker room this year it certainly didn't have a positive impact on their actual record.

They are losing because they have a shit roster, not because of a losing culture. Quickest way to create a winning culture is to get better players

So let’s say we pass on the QB and go nothing but defense and O-line and they hit on half of their 11 draft picks. Is it safe to assume with better players and another year in Shurmur’s system with a slightly improved defense that we win at least 8 games next year which puts us right around 18. How and when are we ever going to upgrade the QB position?

Yes they have a shitty roster and at the same time were in most ballgames. They have a chance to get better this coming year by building on top of what they have and improving upon their roster. Tanking is a shitty way to build, which creates shitty attitudes and more turnover. These are professionals and they are paid to win, not to tank. I don’t give a flying fuck about 5-11 right now. It’s going in the right direction and will get better. That is my point.
I know DG does not like the word rebuild
DonnieD89 : 1/6/2019 11:39 pm : link
Frankly, it is a rebuild. It’s going to take time. Tanking does not solve everything. What if they tank for next year and select a QB, while current good players contracts come up and they decides not to be on a losing team and go to a SB contender? Premier FAs don’t want to come to a losing team also.

And build up draft picks..to work on both lines as well as back 7 of D
I wouldn’t hate it

As Baker is my personal favorite Corner in this draft. But Allen, Ferrell, Deionte Thompson, Cody Ford, and Devin White are all guys if take ahead of him.
The last woman who was drafted
Big Blue '56 : 1/7/2019 7:08 am : link
was Terry Glenn

I would love Devin White. Jealous watching the cowboys play with super athletic linebackers

If the GM decided to punt 2019 he's not going to fire the coach.

Don’t really see this. With Jenkins, Beal and the emergence of Grant, CB is hardly bereft of talent. Can’t see the team using a #1 there.
I like Baker a lot, but not at 6

Perfect guy if they traded down into the teens.
I'm a huge Dawg fan as well,
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 1/7/2019 9:04 am : link
and Baker is going to be a stud. If we move down a few spots and pick up a 2nd or 3rd I wouldnt kill that that move.

But the Giants need a pass rusher bad.

Also Gettleman is known for devaluing CBs as compared to investing in the DL. He cut Josh Norman to pay star Last and Kawann Short
