I feel like there's not a ton of buzz for tonight's contest, but let's run down the list of potential targets for us in the draft that will be on display. I won't bother with positions like RB, mainly the positions of need or guys that are rated high:
Bama:
LT Jonah Williams - most likely a RT or RG right away for us. I have visions of him manning RT for 3 seasons and then switching over to LT once Solder is gone. That'd be the perfect scenario for us.
C/G Ross Pierschbacher - dude is playing in his 4th national title game. Isn't rated that highly, and not much of an athlete which could be why he's graded in the 3-5 range, but could be a nice value pick for us in the mid rounds at C if we pass on that position in the early going.
DT Quinnen Williams - not much to say here. Should be a top 6-7 lock but might not be the best bet for us because of position. Gettleman hasn't shied away from taking BPA even if we have guys at that position, so he could be an option at 6.
DT Raekwon Davis - another beast and possible top 10 pick. Davis would play 5 tech for us. So while it's not necessarily a need, he's a name to watch out for along with Williams
FS Deionte Thompson - FS that we've been waiting for...probably doesn't make the grade at 6, but could be had in a trade down, or, in a trade up scenario back into the 1st after our 6th overall. Ball skills are off the charts with excellent range
ILB Mack Wilson - probably a 2nd round target for us if we choose to go LB. Not very athletic or fast but the dude is a gamer
Clemson:
DE Clelin Ferrell - probably a top 10 lock, great pass rushing skills but just an OK run defender. Definitely on the radar for us at #6 overall
DT Christian Wilkins - safe bet as a 1st rounder but probably not at 6. He jumps off the screen every game along with Ferrell
CB Trayvon Mullen - 1st round buzz, certainly not a choice at 6 but in the 2nd round? Possibly
Let's enjoy the game, our guy at 6 could be on the field tonight!
Clemson:
If that's the case...it would leave a few guys on the board:
Allen
Haskins
Jonah Williams
Devin White
I think we'd be happy with any of those 4.
After Fromm's freshman year at Georgia...everyone said he would be the #1 guy. Now he's lumped in with a bunch of other QBs who look better than him. Everyone loves Lawrence now but he's only a freshman...a lot can change.
I'm also not terribly excited about Tua in the pros.
I asked Sy that question and he said he is a fit for any scheme.

I don't think we go ILB that high, and suspect Haskins is a mid 1st rounder.
If I'm right, we'll be looking to trade down.

Sy thinks Ferrell can play 3-4 OLB?
Not explosive enough, imo. You don't spend that pick on a 3-4 DE.

Much respect for Sy, but not enough pop for me to warrant the pick in a 3-4 front. Clemson and Bama defenders are effective in the NFL, but they're consistently high floor prospects.

I am not as high on Tua as others but I think Fromm is going to be a franchise QB. Lawrence looks like the real deal and should be the most hyped QB since Luck in 2021. Of course things can change but I believe that scouts like Fromm more than many believe.
Ferrel would fit opposite Cartern not opposite Vernon

Vernon played OLB in Miami's 3-4 defense before coming here.
Clowney's bigger. Chubb is the same size.
My guess is it’s a week after New Years already went through a plethora of bowl games and most are just ready for it to be over. I think they should add a few more teams and start the playoffs early December ending as the final game New Year’s Day.

while this is true, unless he suffers a bad injury, Lawrence has a skill set that doesn't just deteriorate. He's the most polished freshman QB I've ever seen.
The Giants play a 4-man front a ton. If they can get a great Edge Rusher he has to be considered.
The Giants biggest problem is stopping teams late in games. That's when they'll be in a 40 front with DBs on the field. Ferrell helps them close games. And I'd again point to Chandler Jones in Bettcher's AZ D. Jones is probably best suited as a 43DE but he killed it in Bettcher's Elephant role. Ferrell is a similar prospect.
I personally like Polite better as a pure pass rusher but Ferrell would be a great "get" for the Giants. IMO.
The name Thompson is becoming an albatross when it comes to playing safety for the Giants. Just saying. It’s been bad luck.

But then again, the third Thompson could be a charm.
I like the other S Simmons as well. He's an inch taller, the same weight, and they seem to use him in a rover type role too.
He's a sophomore but I don't know if he's redshirted and eligible to be drafted but the games I've seen he's pretty damn good. Fast and long and always seems to be around the ball. #11 on D.
