His hype is probably only going to increase by no fault of his own which create unrealistic expectations. By the time he is ready for the draft if someone reminds the crowds that have bought into the hype that he isn't a sure thing laughing and mocking will ensue.
Then when the player starts their pro career and perhaps doesn't come out of the gates the way the hype predicted then impatient fans will unreasonably criticize. It happens often with super hyped prospects. We expect them to just make a seamless transition to the pro game because of the hype.
Very impressive, but the Clemson OL played better than Â
advertised. Ross and Higgins also looked like two taller DeAndre Hopkins out there. They made the Bama secondary look like slow-footed midgets, even Thompson.

Does that same speech get repeated for those who advocate building up the lines? Because those guys aren't sure things either, there are plenty of busts waiting to be had in the OL/DL space.
I'm not trying to make any point on how a team should or shouldn't be built. I just find it interesting. I certainly am not attempting to make some veiled point in reference to the long and old "how to build a team debate".
With Tua looking mere mortal and Herbert having a so-so season, does that mean the 2020 QB class isn’t anything special? Many on this board have called waiting until 2020 as the best strategy for the NYG to find their future QB. But is that strategy now in doubt?
Is Haskins better than Tua? How about Haskins v Herbert?
Of course Jake Fromm will likely come out but waiting until 2020 to figure out the future of the Giants’ QB situation now appears to be quite a risk.
Not at all. Because Tua has one bad game in his first season as the full-time starter, we are going to throw him under the bus? If he was eligible to enter the 2019 draft, I would bet dollars for donuts he would be the first QB taken. A lot can happen in the 2019 season, but the 2020 QB class is still looking deep at this point.
RE: The worst team in the NFL two seasons from now will draft him Â
He seems unreal and as a true freshman, but there is almost zero chance he is ever in blue.
This is how I see it as well. Lawrence is THE prize but he’s not available until 2021. Assuming DG is still around, he’ll have the team settled into customary 3rd place finishes in the division by then (I don’t expect us to surpass Dallas and Philadelphia anytime soon). We’d have to be awful to get the #1 overall pick because whichever team does, they’re not trading it.

Two of the biggest games he’s played in this year he hasn’t been the same player, especially under pressure.
I’m not saying Haskins is better or just as good, but the gap isn’t as large as it’s made out to be. By this time next year we could easily be saying “maybe we shouldn’t have waited”

We could be in the running...
We’d have to be like 2-14 in 2020. I think only starting Lauletta for 16 games insures something like that. The rest of the roster should be good enough by then to get us to at least .500
Saquon Barkley was the "sure thing" last year, much hyped. How'd that turn out?
Tim, he wasn't a sure thing. He was projected to be a very good to possibly great pro. It looks like their estimations or educated guesses were correct.
Also we aren't only talking about ability here. Guys get hurt and are never the same, some guys don't hold up mentally. There are other factors besides their ability holding up in the pros. The whole point is no matter how great the college player it never means certainty. But hype will cloud judgement

If we have a chance at Haskins, we have to take it. I think Fromm will be a better pro, but it would be a risky bet to think we could get him next year.
as we’ll most likely be drafting a QB, within the next two years, in the first round. He is a tremendous talent and there’ll be a team, worst in the league that year, that’ll probably have their Franchise QB. Not going to be the Giants however. I wouldn’t put him in Canton just yet, but he certainly looks like he’s a guy that could get there.
Freak out going with Haskins next year or Eli for next two. If Haskins sucks we may be in position to draft Lawrence and if we plan on Eli next two years that’s a viable likelihood as well.
You actually think a team, with the very real possibility that Lawrence will grade out as high as Luck or Manning did (this kid has been hyped up and discussed in circles since he was 14 years old) will simply to trade him away for a couple of extra draft picks?
Never read too much into a college football game. Game film is only a piece of the file.
Lawrence was not sacked in that game. He had a clean pocket and time to throw on most passing plays. He did look great. But most guys look great with a comfortable pocket.

Really?
Consider the hypothetical of a team that has their QB and for whatever reason (injuries/bad play) they end up with the #1 pick. How great of a haul would that team receive trading the rights to Lawrence?
from the Gruden and the Raiders, they get bailed out by getting the first pick when Lawrence comes out. Like the Cavs winning the lottery and drafting Lebron, then Kyrie.
2018: Tom Brady takes his team to the division title, but looks a clear step behind the Brady that was 2017 NFL MVP.
2019: Brady continues to deteriorate, perhaps they sneak in the wildcard anyway, enough to get Brady to give it one more try.
2020: Downslopes of careers happen fast at this age, and Brady finally doesn’t have it anymore, but no one will bench Brady. The Patriots finish in last place, and pick Lawrence........

More like Spurs sucking 2 years out of like 40 and landing the #1 pick each time landing David Robinson and Tim Duncan
and do what ever you have to in order to draft this kid in 2021. He is as special as Saquon was in college. Man against boys. Let Eli be the QB the next 3 seasons.

Let me try.
2018: Giants stunk on wheat. Concluded a miserable season with a meltdown against the Cowboys and a lot of the media and fans were calling for Eli's head.
2019: Eli and the Giants decide to make one more go of it. Giants do well with their first round pick and the rest of the draft is middling, but due to the easy schedule sneak in a wildcard berth and advance to the 2nd round. After a decent-ish season where he repairs a lot of his reputation, Eli retires.
2020: With nothing at QB but Lauletta and free agents, combined with a weak draft, Giants collapse to 2-14. Trevor Lawrence is there for the taking.
Quick guess: he wants to play in the NFL. And per current league rules he can only play for the team that drafts him, unless he’s willing to do a permanent holdout.

It just hit me. How many teams in 2020 2-3 games in are going to start Tanking for Trevor? We could have a situation where a team that finishes 3-13 is picking 6th!

And if the Giants are still a 3 to 5 win team by the end of 2020, that means something seriously awful has happened and all of these dudes will need to be cleaned out.
Well of course he isnt a "sure thing" but who is?
He is as close as it gets though.

The two Williamses from Bama looked legit though.
You can tell that math isn't strong for some. 3 years out of HS. Use your fingers if you can't count that high.

It’d be a lot cooler if you did!

Is this a Lieutenant Weinberg reference? I really hope so.
Played varsity four years.
Last night looked like he was bored at times lol...in total control.
Expect him to fill out size wise and get more refined. Looks to have a heck of a future for the NFL.

Could hapoen and be set up right timing
I strenuously object to you and Googs!!
Glad somebody noticed!!
I think he should enter the 2019 supplemental draft, unless a team signs him as an untendered free waiver first.
