Yahoo sports article on Haskins and his blitz pickup

The article goes on to state
Quote:

..the most impressive stat may have been that he wasnít sacked, surprising considering Ohio Stateís offensive line had been riddled with leaky protection and pre-snap penalties all season.

That was aided by Haskins, who didnít miss a single blitz pick-up call. Ohio State coaches estimated after the game that Brown blitzed about 75 percent of the plays. And Haskins had an answer for all of them, whether pre-snap with an identification or rolling out to buy time and avoid pressure. It was a savvy performance that belied this being only his 12th career start.

I did not see much of Ohio State this year, but that is impressive for only 12 starts.

Would be nice to see him in an All-Star game.....

with other players in a different setting. I suppose that weíll all now be relegated to following him at the Combine and OSU Pro Day. Heís had a tremendous year and has shown some really nice skill, but sample size is limited. He appears to be accurate, strong armed and smart, but weíve seen that story before. As for his blitz pickup being good, heíll certainly need that trait with the state of our line!
I'm a Haskins fan but he wasn't really under pressure much in the

what do pre-snap penalties have to do with how

Pre-snap penalties put you behind the chains in down/distance which creates obvious passing situations which in turn lead to more pressure/sacks.

Ad hominem attack.

Imagine Gettleman watching tape and having a high draft grade on Haskins.

Couldn't be me.

I couldn't be THAT delusional and THAT stupid.

you guys want another era of immobile QB? I personally don't want another statue under center.
A few things..
bw in dc : 1/8/2019 11:35 am : link
What does the reference to Ohio State's oline having pre-snap penalties have to do with Haskins ability to pick up the blitz?

Brown telegraphed his blitzing in the Ohio State game because his front four couldn't get there. Most reasonably shrewd viewers could see the tip offs. And why couldn't Michigan get there? Because Ohio State's OL can pass block and they were very, very good all year. They gave Haskins a comfortable pocket all year, which is a key reason why Haskins was so productive.

Haskins is not a mobile QB but he's also not a statue at all. He reminds me a lot of Roethlisberger in college but obv played against much tougher competition.

Michigan has never disguised blitzes. They jsut bullrush and use their speed to create pressure. Their goal of blitzing is so that you couldnt double Gary/Winovich. The problem was those 2 were dominated.

Seriously, Haskins wasnt even touched. It looked like he was playing Eastern Michigan.

If we take him, its because the Giants did their research and feel as though he can be the guy. I am not sure he is - but at least I can admit that he has intriguing tools that can get a fan excited about.

What tools?

Physically slow.

Mentally slow.

Awful deep ball.

Dink and dunker to wide open receivers.

Horrendous under the slightest hint of pressure.

Propped up by Urban Meyer's elite QB-friendly system, that historically has produced QB busts in the NFL.

I wasn't too big on Haskins before - but he's making me rethink that pretty quickly. If this shitty dupe/troll hates him this much, I kind of hope he winds up here.

This is interesting, Iíve heard him compared to Ben by others. Hes tough time to get a read on, a lot of talent around him, very qb friendly system, limited experience .

The Giants would have had to to their homework on him to take him at 6. Sometime tells me if they didnít like any of the qbs available at 2 last year, that they arenít drafting Haskins at 6.

My personal opinion is that Lock is the best of the bunch. He seems very much like a Giants qb, but even I donít see him at 6. Heís probably somewhere in the 15-20 range, unless he really overly impresses at the combine.

You can hope all you want - I hope I get a billion dollars - But I can promise you with 100% certainty that the Giants will NOT draft Dwayne Haskins.

That, I put on my grandmother's grave.

Bingo!

You said it.

If the Giants passed on Darnold/Allen/Rosen last year, why the hell would they reach for an inferior QB this year?

Makes 0 sense whatsoever.

Simply asinine.

Is nothing like Big Ben. Other than both are big, that's it. The way they play QB are not similar at all.

He's Byron Leftwich 2.0

Everything he does is slow.

You don't get the triple metaphor?

1) Tom Coughlin - Put some Respek on the Integrity of the Pocket
2) Jerry Reese - Lazy, simplistic scouting; extremely narrow-minded view on football
3) Ben McAdoo - Ponzi Scheme centered around John Jerry's 1 skill (the perfect short-set for a RG)

But... he's not slow. He's not a Lamar Jackson burner, but he can scramble. He picked up a decent amount of 1st downs in the Washington game. I bet he clocks in at around 4.7 or so once the combine rolls around. Ben ran a 4.75.

And the deep ball? He's got a better deep ball than all of the qbs that came out last year minus probably Allen. He's got a really terrific arm that can make all of the throws.

You're off base here. If he was lumped in with last year's QBs, he's probably the third best prospect behind Darnold and Baker. Doesn't have the injury concerns that Rosen had and is a more polished passer than Allen.

No way is Haskins a better prospect than Allen. Allen had freakish arm talent, power runs like Cam Newton, and ran a Pro-style NFL offense. Haskins runs a junk offense that doesn't translate to the NFL
