Sources: The #Bucs are focusing on hiring former #AZCardinals coach Bruce Arians as their new coach and the strong interest is mutual. Negotiations are likely to begin soon. Here we go.

Bucs will begin negotiations on a contract for former Cardinals coach Bruce Arians today or Wednesday in hopes of hiring as their head coach. He would become the Bucs sixth HC since 2008. @RapSheet reported first.
Doubtful. Their problems run way deeper than HC. Their GM keeps getting to hire coaches though.
People think Reese stayed way too long, he was hired with Coughlin in place & only hired McAdoo. These other GMs on shitty teams hire multiple coaches. Its amazing really.
The guy is a great coach but I want no part of it building that foundation and momentum only to lose him over a health concern early in year 3.
Tough way to live life as any of us can get hit by a bus at any moment but still, his health issues are real and well documented.
He had Renal cell with surgery for a cure. He is unlikely to have any other issues cancer-wise. Unless he went through chemo, XRT, etc, and no one knows about it, he should be cured.
I'd feel better about hiring Arians if I had a team closer to winning than TB is.
True in general, but didnt he completely turn around a rather awful Cards team, even if some of their players were stars?
He did - but his arrival there coincided with them replacing Kevin Kolb with Carson Palmer - which undoubtedly also had a lot to do with going from a 5 win team to a 10 win team.
Arians is a fantastic coach - no doubt about it. I thought he did a great job in Indy when Pagano had to leave the team too.
I just wonder if he'll be able to see it through in TB (if he does get the job) - they need a lot of help there. They did pretty well offensively - but the defense is horrid.
Agreed, I think the Tampa ownership wants to find out a way to make Winston work. Arians is a great guy to put out there with him and see if he can get his career back on track. This move seems more about trying to win with Winston now than looking to develop a new QB. Arians will be 67 next year, he's there to win now.
TB made Arians go for a complete physical with their doctors
Is TB really pulling anyone notable with a track record besides Arians? If they wanted McCarthy, do you think he'd go there? McDaniels?
Arians, even if for the short term is probably the best of their options. They're taking one last shot with Winston, he's probably as good as anyone for the task of turning him around.

He turned them around for a while, but when Palmer and David Johnson went down, he wasn't quite a smart a coach, lol. He really likes a high risk philosophy, taking shots downfield, blitzing.
but I'm a little surprised that he is willing to hitch his wagon to Jameis. Maybe he sees something there he likes, because I'd be surprised if he couldn't get multiple offers.
Don't be all that convinced that TB is sticking with Jameis
despite their proclamations. He is tentatively under contract on the 5th year option at $21M. That is a lot of coin on a player who has proven to not be a good QB. The same one with prior transgressions that include sexual assault and theft. I have a hard time believing that Arians is coming out of retirement to be hitched to Winston.
I suspect TB will defer to Arians opinion and come the Ides of March, Winston will be released before the org is on the hook for the $21M. Tampa and Jax will jockey for position to draft Haskins.

3 years of a good coach is enough time to get a winning culture in place. One of the reasons the Cowboys are competitive year after year is because of the winning culture Parcells put in place. Granted, he had 4 years. Point remains the same.

I think it's a bit of a reach to say Parcells installed a winning culture with the Cowboys that still exists today............

I think people confuse culture with infrastructure. Parcells brought in some people, taught them how to do things a different way. It's likely that even years later, the impact that Parcells had over their front office is still obvious to those inside.
We got a good long run out of George Young the people he brought/changes he made - the question is, is it over?

Think it was very tough for the Giants to move Reese after two SB wins even if they thought he was not up to the job in talent evaluation after that.
My guess is that there was a mutual understanding going in that Winston would be the qb if he took the job, which he did. Winston might be a troublemaker with poor decision making both on and off the field, but he's got a whole lot of talent. I'd be surprised if the ability to mold him wasn't a big reason Arians took the job to begin with.
the owner must just be appalled about how Winston was benched, especially with the way Conor McGregor showed up to the podium after one game.
He clearly needs to win back the fan base by quickly hiring a coach and building a team around Winston and sticking with him for the foreseeable future.......

Plus, if Arians can't get more out of Winston than they have previously then you have a pretty good indicator that you should cut your losses. and move on.
It is Lying Season. TB is sitting at 5. Tell the whole league that you are sticking with Winston. People want to talk about Arians molding and working with Winston. The hour is past to try and "work" with him. They are looking at paying him $21M for a single year. He will be someone else's project to resurrect at a much cheaper cost. TB just needs to convince Jax that Haskins will fall to Tommy so they don't move up ahead. The picture will become clearer at the start of the league year when Winston has to pass a physical.
That said, I'd probably rather have Arians than Shurmur.

Ahhh, didn't realize that.... makes sense now.

Well glad your not the GM
Losing gets old fast and Arians could bolt.
Wonder how pissed his wife is?? LOL

The issue in Tampa is that the GM is a fucking clown. Same guy who drafted a kicker in the second round a few years back.
Arians needs at least some control over personnel.

Haha. Ok. Seems there are plenty of people who agree.
But the 12th Man knows better!

Didn't the Bucs already state the next HC had to keep Winston?
