NFT: Knicks: How would Cam Reddish fit with this Knicks group?

Beezer : 1/8/2019 2:00 pm
After reading a mock draft on BBI and seeing that Reddish was slotted for the Knicks pick, I read and watched more. I've only seen him once live (on TV), and it's hard to look away from the shiny thing that is Zion, so I didn't know much.

Reddish is 19, apparently one hell of a shooter, 6-8 with perhaps more to grow, he rebounds, too, and in some videos reminded me of a kid named Knox.

I wonder how Reddish would look at the 2 alongside the refurbished Mudiay?

BBI Knicks fans ... would you be excited to get this kid in the next draft?
Pretty good game here, early on. - ( New Window )
He's shooting 35.6% overall on the year
Greg from LI : 1/8/2019 2:07 pm : link
So I'd say "one helluva shooter" is a bit much.
OK. He's got a very nice
Beezer : 1/8/2019 2:07 pm : link
shooting stroke and is known to be a good shooter. Better?
Reddish is now kind of a worst case scenario
Anakim : 1/8/2019 2:08 pm : link
Given how poorly we are in the standings, there should be better players available. Zion, Barrett, Morant, Langford and maybe Little.
how about this?
Greg from LI : 1/8/2019 2:09 pm : link
Supposed to be a good shooter but has shot like ass - that work for you?

He's the best defender on that team, but he's struggled to find a niche in their offense, which fits his rep coming in of a guy who's kind of passive and defers to other players despite his prodigious talent.
Little has been majorly overhyped
Greg from LI : 1/8/2019 2:12 pm : link
He can't shoot to save his life. Coby White has been the better freshman for the Heels.
Plenty of raw talent, but the dreaded "motor" issues persist.
bceagle05 : 1/8/2019 2:15 pm : link
I'd rather go with a cut-throat competitor this time around - Zion (obviously), RJ, Morant, Garland all seem to fit that bill. I think Zion and Morant are going to be the two stars from this draft class - hope we land one of them.
Jarrett Culver is playing well too (Texas Tech).
bceagle05 : 1/8/2019 2:19 pm : link
Plenty of good talent available. I want to love Romeo Langford - he looks the part of a star - but he's 22% from three point range. Not sure we're in a position to gamble on significant improvement in that area.

My mistake

Cleveland: 8-32, .200
Phoenix: 9-32, .220
Chicago: 10-30, .250
Knicks: 10-30, .250

That damn win L.A. was a killer. Figures the Knicks catch them during a week where Lebron is out.
Bulls, Suns and Hawks need to win some damn games.
bceagle05 : 1/8/2019 2:35 pm : link
They all have more talent than the Knicks. Cavs and Knicks SHOULD be the bottom feeders of the league, but it's gonna be tight. Knicks have only played 16 home games (out of 40) - so expect a few more wins in the second half of the season, unless they ship all the vets out of here.
It would suck if Cleveland wins the lottery....again.
bceagle05 : 1/8/2019 2:37 pm : link
Dan Gilbert's arguably worse than Dolan, yet somehow he gets all the friggin' breaks while we languish.
Reddish
DanMetroMan : 1/8/2019 3:36 pm : link
is actually OLD for a Freshman so citing his age isn't a plus. He'll be 20 as an NBA rookie a full year older than Zion and Barrett. Not saying he can't develop or that he stinks but it's something of a red flag he's been this bad as an older Frosh.
I feel like with Reddish
nygiants16 : 1/8/2019 3:47 pm : link
you will not see what he can really do until he is in the nba, with barrett and zion he has taken a backseat. Now you can say that is a huge negative.
if he's taking a backseat to fellow teenagers
Greg from LI : 1/8/2019 3:51 pm : link
do you really think he'll assert himself more with NBA veterans? That's the concern.

His all-around game is very nice and makes him unlikely to be a flat-out bust, but I don't think he'll be a plus offensive player at the next level.

But that would be a function of mindset and not talent; Paul George had similar issues coming into the NBA.
I would be
elisha2014 : 1/8/2019 3:56 pm : link
devastated if Reddish was who the Knicks end up with from this draft class.

Fully expect the Cavs to get Zion because they have the best lottery luck of all time.

Hard to be optimistic for this sad Knick fan.

I'm no fan of Reddish but this is a bit misleading. He's shooting nearly 80% from the FT line which is the best predictor of outside shooting success in the nba.
It's not misleading to say he hasn't shot well
Greg from LI : 1/8/2019 4:15 pm : link
Because he hasn't.

It might be a decent generalization but there are guys who shot FTs well in college who are mediocre to bad on threes in the NBA - Malik Monk (82% FT at UK), Trae Young (86%), Donovan Mitchell (81%), Jerian Grant (79%), Andrew Wiggins (78%), Marcus Smart (75%) among others.
I'm
DanMetroMan : 1/8/2019 4:22 pm : link
surprised how poorly Monk has shot from 3 but he's quietly been better this season (overall). If Charlotte did something stupid and dumped him I'd be very interested. I'd 100% swap Frank for him. For all of the talk of Frank's defense (which is quite good) his DRtg is 116, Monk 113 and Monk has a ORtg of 101.
It is really hard to scout a player who's a third option on that team
Heisenberg : 1/8/2019 4:24 pm : link
There's a real chance that he's not getting used in a way that's best for his game, simply based on the role he plays with the other 3 frosh.

So, for me, huge variance. I could see a situation where he's not a good pro at all and a scenario where in a different situation, his game expands

I guess the answer is: no fucking clue.
I think his defense and athleticism means he'll have a place
Greg from LI : 1/8/2019 4:25 pm : link
in the league. I don't know what kind of role he will end up in, though.
Reddish has really struggled off the ball
nygiants16 : 1/8/2019 4:25 pm : link
You wiuld think if he was such a good shooter he would flourish next to barrett and williamson
Players
DanMetroMan : 1/8/2019 4:26 pm : link
like Reddish always worry me in the mold of Marvin Williams and Tim Thomas. Not saying Reddish can't turn it on, noted above was Paul George but I'm always hesitant with guys like this

plus you would have 2 players like that in him and knox
Kind of funny
nygiants16 : 1/8/2019 4:34 pm : link
watching durant doodge knicjs questions..

Young is a rookie and Monk is a second year guy. It takes some guys
Strahan91 : 1/8/2019 4:35 pm : link
years to adapt. Their problems have more to do with getting open shots off given their height disadvantage. But anyways, that's not the point. When it comes to predicting NBA shooting ability, it's a *good* predictor of success, not a *perfect* one. Like most predictors of success. This is especially true when a prospect has good form, something Jerian Grant for example did not.

Bingo. Not that he can't do it, but I'd be uneasy with him.

Frank's D this year has been far from what I expected. I think it's mental. He's frustrated offensively and loses focus on D.
When Frank really locks in on defense it's a sight to see.
bceagle05 : 1/8/2019 4:42 pm : link
He absolutely destroyed Jayson Tatum in the win up in Boston earlier this season. Did the same last year to DeRozan one night at The Garden. Night in and night out, however, there's not much on either end of the court that excites you.

that is this entire team
with the new lottery system, Knicks just need to finish
Del Shofner : 1/8/2019 4:49 pm : link
as one of the worst three teams, which is pretty much where they are at present. The worst three teams have exactly the same odds as to the first four draft picks. It changes a little as to the fifth and beyond.

If you finish fourth or fifth worst, or "better," your odds start to get worse pretty quickly.

Given this, I'm not agonizing over the draft right now. Until the lottery, you're not going to know enough to do so. Although assuming they get one of the first four picks, which is statistically likely at this point, I guess it makes sense to agonize over whether there are four "blue chippers" in this draft.

Are there? The three Duke guys plus Ja Morant? No one else seems to be in the discussion. A couple of the touted SG's have fallen off in their production, and Bol Bol is now a red flag for injury reasons.
I'll be very happy with either Williamson or Morant
Greg from LI : 1/8/2019 4:51 pm : link
I'm not a big fan of Romeo Langford and RJ Barrett strikes me as too similar to Knox in a lot of ways.
Ja Morant has DeAron Fox skills

If we can get Zion then I’d take Morant
Duke at Wake Forest on ESPN.

St John's at 'Nova

on FS1, also started at 7.
so i guess we can not say
nygiants16 : 1/8/2019 7:53 pm : link
Durant is not keeping tabs on the knicks
I know chances are slim, but Zion with the Knicks
bceagle05 : 1/8/2019 8:04 pm : link
would be so sweet. Talent aside, he’s a badass and an enforcer. The days of star players (and some scrubs) bullying the Knicks would be over. Culture changer.
I keep thinking "Jorah Mormont"
Mike from SI : 1/8/2019 8:09 pm : link

Bless you for watching that. I had to turn it off after 5 minutes. Not Frank/Knox/Trier/Robinson on the floor and my boredom level goes through the roof.
Thanks, I've been watching the HBO Sopranos marathon a bit, too.
