NFT: Knicks/Kings discussing C Enes Kanter for Zach Randolph

New York and Sacramento discussing an Enes Kanter-Zach Randolph trade of expiring contracts, but nothing close yet, league sources tell ESPN. Kings would want to send out more expirings in a deal. Kanter is out of rotation and wants chance to play. A third team could be helpful.
If Randolph gets traded back to New York,

He might get more minutes here than in Sacramento. Anyway, throw Courtney Lee into one of Kanter's suitcases.

"Kanter is out of rotation "
Enzo : 1/9/2019 10:58 am : link
huh?

Regardless, if it's just Kanter for Z-Bo you're just giving Kanter away for nothing, but you do get to clear the difference between their salaries (about $7 million)...which then gives us the opportunity to absorb a contract at the deadline from a team looking to cut their tax bill or whatever. In short, this might be an opportunity to grab an extra second round pick or two, or a contender's crappy first rounder.
What would the purpose of this deal be?

The purpose for Sacto would be to add a rotational BIG.

The purpose for NYK would be a) to free up more minutes for Robinson, Kornet b) another tank move c) probably get some young asset i.e. Frank Mason or a 2nd rounder.

Upside for Kings is that they add 3 potential rotation guys for 3 guys that barely play for them. Downside is obviously they take on Lee's contract for next season.

I can't see it unless they give a max to a guy that otherwise wasn't going to get one. Ever since Ranadiv bought the team, it seems like things have been a mess over there. They have some interesting pieces and Fox is a stud but he's not the type of transcendent player that makes guys ignore the other stuff with an organization. They're also not in a city/market that I would think would be of all that much interest to a big FA.
Playing with trade machine, I come up with the following
Pep22 : 1/9/2019 12:43 pm : link
NYK Gives:

Kanter
Lee
Ntilikina

NYK Gets:

Randolph (will be released)
Koufos (will be released)
Mason
NYK choice of Labasierre, Giles or Jackson

Yes, it means they're giving up on Ntilikina but they replace some youth with Mason plus the choice of SL, HG or JJ plus you add 12mm to next year's FA budget.
Unless the Knicks

The Knicks and Enes Kanter are getting closer to a mutual divorce.

New York is discussing a deal to send Kanter to the Kings for former Knick Zach Randolph, as ESPN reported. However, a source told the Daily News its very early in the negotiations. In other words, nothing is imminent.

Both players are in the final year of their contracts and, on the surface, a deal for the Knicks makes little sense without a sweetener coming back like a future second-round pick.

Randolph, 37, who hasnt played at all this season for Sacramento, has no place on the Knicks roster and doesn't fit the direction of the team. They might as well just buy out Kanter and free up a roster spot.

But the Knicks could also save a couple million dollars in the deal, depending on what other player they receive. Thats certainly an incentive. Kanter is making $18.6 million this season, compared to Randolphs $11.6 million. ESPN reported that the Kings, who are pushing for the playoffs, want to add additional expiring deals to even out the money, perhaps by recruiting a third team.

This makes the most sense for both sides. As you said, Kings improve at 3 spots and only have to take on 11Mil next year for a player that will still be in their rotation.

ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that the Kings and Knicks are discussing a trade centering around Enes Kanter and Zach Randolph. According to Wojnarowski, the two sides arent currently close to completing a deal, as the Kings would prefer to part with additional expiring contracts.

A swap of Kanter for Randolph would be a cap-neutral move for New York. Although it would save owner Jim Dolan some money this year, contracts for both players expire at the end of this season. Thus, it wouldnt help the Knicks clear any additional cap space for 2019-20 and beyond.

However, since the two teams are already engaged in trade conversations, New York should undoubtedly gauge Sacramentos interest in Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee.

The Kings already have a pair of quality wing scorers on their roster in Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic. Yet, the presence of these two sharpshooters did not stop Sacramento from signing Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Zach LaVine to a four-year, $78 million offer sheet back in July. The Bulls ended up matching the Kings offer, and LaVine remained in the Windy City. The Kings ended up signing Yogi Ferrell to a two-year $6.2 million pact later in July. However, Ferrell hasnt lived up to expectations in Sacramento, as hes averaging 5.8 points in 13.6 minutes. Hes also been a liability defensively. Of all rotation regulars, Ferrell has the lowest Net Rating on the team.

Let me preface this by saying I've never even seen him play other than youtube. But the guy I spoke to said that some teams have said they could see him "running an offense" and being a "playmaker at the 1". It sounds more like it's not out of the realm of possibility given his skillset more than "he's a 1" but I found it interesting. He also said he's the perfect example of gains a player has from year 1 to year 2 in college. He put a "early lottery" grade on him this year.

Morant is a career 79.1% FT shooter.
Regarding Zion
Heisenberg : 1/11/2019 10:39 am : link
5 of 11 from 3 last 4 games. We may not have established that he *can't* shoot. There's certainly less data about his shooting woes than Simmons.

For me, the thing that makes me really want Zion is that he seems like he will develop into a real two way player who should be very switchable on defense. He's just so athletic and competitive that I think he'll be tough to handle on both ends of the floor.

Love Morant, too. I don't think he's too small at all. And Elfrid Payton is soft as shit. Morant's competitiveness is much, much higher.

Haven't seen Culver, but I'll keep an eye out for Texas Tech games now.
I'm
DanMetroMan : 1/11/2019 10:40 am : link
sounding like a fanboy for a guy I've never even see play live but Culver has improved from 65% to 72% this season and is shooting 39% from 3 so it's not like he "can't" shoot.
Currently
DanMetroMan : 1/11/2019 10:41 am : link
I think Morant is #2 on my "board". I need to see more of these other guys before really fleshing out anything beyond "Damn I'd love Zion".

They are either average or bad free throw shooters. I guess I find it shocking how osmeone has the ball in their hands all the time.... cant shoot.

Morant is a career 79.1% FT shooter.

I sw 77% for this year and some college rims are pretty forgiving. Still less than stellar. Like to see guards around 82-83. But again, might be a slump or something...

still have Ja and Barrett neck and neck, but given the Knicks' needs Ja certainly might make more sense.

He also seems to have that Russ IDGAF attitude which I like.
Little and Reddish are the only ones who really scare me.

Zion, Barrett or Morant would be great, Culver would be fine. Sucks that Garland got hurt - I think he would've turned some heads, too. Langford's playing better lately. Just keep losing. I don't want to pass myself off as a college basketball expert though - I just check out these prospects when their teams pop up on ESPN or Fox Sports, and keep up with the experts' evaluations.

Culver's a sophomore, too.

After drafting some projects in recent years, it'd be nice to add in a more "NBA ready" player.

Enes Kanter did not participate in Knicks practice on Thursday. Apparently this is because on Wednesday night he ate seven cheeseburgers, with a generous helping of fries, to get the most out of his weekly cheat day and made himself sick enough to call out of work the next day.

Kanter posted a video of him sitting in front of seven burgers - including three triple-patty burgers topped with egg - and a tray full of fries.

What a fucking asshole. How the hell do you have a cheat meal IN SEASON? You're a fucking professional who is getting paid millions of dollars. You have all summer to eat whatever shit you want. All you need to do is be in fucking shape.
Impossible to take Kanter seriously.

For a 37 yr old player just to get rid of him. Nothing else will come back not even a second. I think we are all dreaming trying to get rid of a contract guaranteed for next year even with something attached. Maybe on draft night if we drop a few slots.
