Boylhart checks in on Haskins and Murray

Milton : 1/10/2019 9:30 pm
He is a big fan of both...

Dwayne Haskins
Kyle Murray

He has an interesting take on Haskins that I hadn't heard before...
Quote:
Dwayne being a pure pocket passer, impacted, improved and raised the level of the players around him for this one season in a system meant for an athletic running quarterback. I’m not suggesting that Dwayne is not a good athlete on the contrary… he is more than adequate but because of his ability and confidence to release the ball quickly his mental makeup is to play from the pocket. His college coaches really were not prepared nor did they want to, change on their offensive system to his strengths so, if Dwayne wanted to play he had to improve his weaknesses to fit their system instead of them fitting the offense to his strengths and naturals abilities.

Haskins represents a lot of the things Gettleman warned against last year, so if he selects him, he's either a bigtime liar/hypocrite or Haskins wowed him in interviews and on the board.

p.s.--Boylhart also loves DL Christian Wilkins.

I was just imagining how ecstatic you must've been when you read those Rosen to NYG rumors...well, really speculation.

I was thinking the same thing. Milton was Rosen's biggest supporter last year.

As you said, it's speculation--not rumor--and silly speculation at that, so nothing to get excited about. I had actually mentioned the possibility early-season when Arizona was looking like they were gonna have the first pick and Justin Herbert was still part of the equation. If Arizona is gonna take a QB with the first pick, it won't be Murray.

What do you mean that if we drafted Haskins then Gettleman is a liar? I am mot understanding what you are talking about.
Yeah, Milton, quit sandbagging...

BBI with these misdirection topics like Boylhart on Haskins.

How high did you tip the euphoria-meter when you heard the Rosen rumors?

Compares Wilkins to Reggie White!!
Question
Leg of Theismann : 1/10/2019 9:45 pm : link
If we draft either Murray or Haskins, any chance we bring either number #1 or #7 out of retirement? #1 hasn't been worn in 85 years... haven't we paid enough tribute? If we drafted Murray I would just love to see him wearing #1 in blue (and red).

Well it would be more the case of being a hypocrite, although it would be considered lying if he knew he was bullshitting at the time he waxed on about the evils of taking a QB early who hadn't played in a pro style offense or taken any snaps under center. But there's also the possibility that he stands by those statements, but claims Haskins had alleviated all those fears via interviews, workouts, and chalkboard challenges.

I'm neither for nor against selecting Haskins at this point. I need to do more of a deep dive into his games, etc. I trust Gettleman was being sincere when he went down his list of fears when it came to spending a 1st round pick on a QB, so if he were to select Haskins, he must've been greatly impressed by interviews and the limited game film he studied.
I don't remember Gettleman saying he wouldn't draft a guy
robbieballs2003 : 1/10/2019 9:48 pm : link
early who didn't play in a pro style offense or take snaps from under center. That is a concern for every team but that is why you do your homework. I think you are twisting what he said.

My excitement would've been greater had they been rumors and not people connecting some random dots in order to get clicks. The Cardinals aren't going to give up on Rosen for Murray. It's more likely they do it for Haskins, but I still don't see it. And as speculation goes, it's not speculation that is new to me. I've been way ahead of the curve on this one since it first became likely that the Cards would have the first pick. At the time it was Herbert who I thought they might fall in love with.

Twisting?

He’s tying himself in knots doing this.

Everything is a concern for every team but he seemed to make a point of it when talking about last year's group of QBs. The higher up you are in the draft, the riskier a proposition it is.

Reminds me of Sapp.

We are def in an interesting slot (good) for this draft.

Makes sense. Wilkins has 16 career sacks at Clemson. White had 15 sacks his senior year at Tennessee.

Maybe when I was younger I could tie myself in knots, but I can barely touch my toes these days. So twisting it is!
Like we did last summer... - ( New Window )
Wilkins is a solid pick

I like Wilkins a lot, but Reggie White is the greatest defensive player I’ve seen outside of LT of course
Wilkins
WillVAB : 1/10/2019 10:05 pm : link
I don’t think it’s out of the question he’s the pick at 6. Joey in VA said he looks like a DG pick on the game thread and I think there’s merit to that. I certainly like him better than both Williams, Oliver, Haskins, etc.

Wilkins could be an excellent two way 3-4 DE. He’s a winner. He’s a team player — came back for his senior season when he would’ve been a first rounder last year. Great personality and team guy — great for the culture DG is trying to establish.
I really really
Sammo85 : 1/10/2019 10:14 pm : link
Like Wilkins. I think he’s going to be a very good DL in the NFL.

I am intrigued by Rashan Gary and Devin White with their athleticism too but I would go Wilkins for sure at 6. Sign me up.
To me you’re being unfair to Haskins or any player
djm : 1/10/2019 10:29 pm : link
When you discount their abilities due to his receivers being wide open. You don’t want to overrate the qb but you also don’t want to underrate him. All these college QBs are going to be throwing to wide open WRs. They will all need to adjust to the pro game. Haskins just looks like a stud to me. Size, arm strength, nice footwork in the pocket...he’s a pocket qb who can move a little bit. I kinda like that he hasn’t played that much. Meteoric rise with Ohio state. I’m impressed. I always like ohio state players too. I don’t know... I think Haskins would look awfully good in giants blue...
Wilkins is not Reggie White or Aaron Donald
jeff57 : 1/11/2019 5:47 am : link
But he’s good. And has the leadership skills of White. Wouldn’t be disappointed if Giants took him at 6.
I agree that Wilkins is no Reggie White or Aaron Donald, but
Ira : 1/11/2019 6:53 am : link
he is, like those two, very quick for a big man. I could see a starting dl with Tomlinson in the middle and Wilkins and Hill on de, with Wilkins spelling Tomlinson in the middle. He'd be a good value pick at 6.
I find it hard to believe
mdthedream : 1/11/2019 7:13 am : link
a kid throws for 5000 yds 50tds and only 8 ints in a big time college program can't be a NFL QB with his size and skill set. Hell I would say he has done it at a top level at a high rate, so I would feel more comfortable than some of the Qbs drafted last year or this year from smaller schools. Kid looks like the real deal to me.
I thought Wilkins stood
section125 : 1/11/2019 7:35 am : link
out in that game against Alabama, I was , who the heck is that.
I don't know about Reggie White, but yes he does remind me of Aaron Donald, just a tad slower, but not much.

Not sure about him at #6, but I wouldn't Be upset.

You just quoted college statistics for a QB as a reason for NFL success.

TDN just did a Haskins vs Murray piece.

Interesting stuff although I'm not sure the writer is properly weighing the height advantage in his overall takeaway.
