NFT: Knicks Chat: Beck "rumors" Porzingis is unhappy again

DanMetroMan : 1/11/2019 3:04 pm
Beck apparently said on his podcast he's "heard" KP is unhappy with the Knicks plan to have him miss the entire season.
KP

should understand the big picture here. His career isn't going to be defined on this season. It's going forward.
When he came in as a rookie

he seemed to have a great attitude and always impressed how mature he sounded. What happened to that guy?
What good will having him come back do?
Beezer : 1/11/2019 3:09 pm : link
Is he a smart young man?

If so, someone should talk to him, in a very no-nonsense manner.

Nor was Melo, really...nor was Joakim Noah...nor was Derrick Rose
I'm glad he's not happy with that

I'd be worried if he was cheerful about missing the entire season.
Porzingas coming back this season
Beezer : 1/11/2019 3:11 pm : link
(a) might get the Knicks 4-6 extra wins,

(b) which most likely would take them a handful of slots down in the draft,

(c) and while there's really no great physical upside to him playing actual games, there's a much better chance there's a risk of re-injury.

So, no.
I
DanMetroMan : 1/11/2019 3:12 pm : link
understand both sides. Guy wants to play, team wants their franchise player to be healthy and also wants to tank. I don't think either side is wrong.

He realized how talented he is and that's he stuck on a poorly run franchise.
Porzingis
Csonka : 1/11/2019 3:14 pm : link
Could there be an insurance money component to the decision?

I don't think he'd have that big of an impact in our draft slot. We'd limit his minutes, and there'd be rust.
He's a young guy itchy to play.
Zeke's Alibi : 1/11/2019 3:15 pm : link
This will all be forgiven when they add a top 3 pick and are perennially in the playoffs.

I understand too, and actually think he has a fair point. But no reason for him to be griping to people about it.

But IMO they should consider letting him.

I can see where after going through grueling rehab and having that worry and uncertainty in your head until you "test" it in a real game you wouldn't want to be forced to wait the entire off season to do so. If he's physically ready the Knicks could let him come back for very limited minutes just for him to get that behind him.
If
DanMetroMan : 1/11/2019 3:23 pm : link
you read Beer's piece from yesterday it would be "impossible" barring KP/Janss to be out of their minds for KP to not sign an extension with the Knicks in the off-season. Potentially one of those "worst decisions in sports history" type bad. I thought Spree turning down 21 million from 36-38 and then trashing the Wolves owner was bad... this would be worse. I'm not concerned.
What happened to him?

Rehabbing from this injury is a long, hard, lonely grind. Then they are left with nervous apprehension about what their knee will do when really finally tested in a real game situation. I have heard players that went through this say that they wouldn't want to have to wait an entire second season to get it behind them.

He isn't stupid, he knows they are hoping for the highest pick. But that doesn't change the fact he is going through something dramatic on a personal level and when physically ready wants to get that first game back and over with and behind him.

If he is physically ready they should let him come back sparingly with very limited minutes if that is what he wants.
It's pretty easy to believe that he's not happy with the plan. He's
Heisenberg : 1/11/2019 3:40 pm : link
been healing and rehabbing for nearly a year. Waiting until next year means he won't play another meaningful game for like 9-10 more months. Probably feels like he's near the end of his rehab and to have the light at the end of the tunnel snuffed out would be hard to take.

Just saying why I understand why on a personal level that wouldn't matter to him as much as his being able to get that first game back behind him this season and not be forced to have to wait another one. For me it's not that hard to understand. Nobody is really wrong but surely you can empathize with how he might feel.

GeofromNJ : 1/11/2019 4:17 pm : link
The guy must be bored out of his skull by now. But it could be that Fiz thinks that having KP play will hamper the development of Knox who plays the same position. It could also mean that Fiz wants KP to play center rather than PF and he figures that he will need time to work on that position (just a guess on my part).

If the fucking guy said, wow, this is great, then you have a problem, a player wanting to play and not wait an entire year, at his age, is normal and should be looked at as a good thing. It is not up to him to be smart about this, it is up to the organization to be the smart ones, I am certain his doctors told him it would be okay, so this can not be easy for him, think about his age for a second and tell me what normal kid his age would be happy, a fucking dud may be happy, not a great athlete.

I don't think any team is willing to be on the hook for 2/38 for Hardaway going forward, unless it's a poorly managed team.
Great game by knox...

he still needs to be more aggressive getting the ball. Too many possessions he just stands on the side. Still not sure if that is on him or the offense. I mean he took 22 shots today, but it just seems so often he doesnt touch the ball for stretches.

The tank is strong!

Even for Vonleh, a top 5 protected 2020 first, and a second?
I'm not doing that deal at the deadline

but I'd think about that over the summer if I know I'm getting someone.
Nikola Jokic

is a terrific ballplayer. Very fun to watch. I got NBA league pass this year so I could watch teams that are actually worth watching and not just the Knicks. He's such a treat to watch. 2nd round pick too and a star. Wish the knicks had luck like that.

yeah - he's great. His passing is the most amazing part of his game.
KP should want to play this season
#10* : 1/15/2019 1:01 pm : link
and the Knicks should seriously consider it. Knicks fear it would be a tight run to a top draft pick which they're correct but inpending free agents will want to know that KP is good and how they fit in with him and Knox. I say play him the last three to ten games.
Berman had some draft thoughts from Seth Greenberg today...

Speaking of freakish, the runaway hype on Williamson is getting to Greenberg. For a club in desperate need of a point guard such as the Knicks, Morant might turn out to be a sound addition.

Greenberg said of the 6-8 Williamson, I dont think hes a no-doubt-about-it.

This is not a good draft. It really isnt. In this draft, you probably do [take Zion No. 1]. Hes fun to watch, explosive and doing things we havent seen in a long time. But I grew up watching Dr. J. I dont get excited about dunks.

Greenberg listed his Zion concerns, saying, When does a guy like that not have a pull-up game? And he isnt an NBA 3-point shooter yet.

[Zion] has great passion and is Magic [Johnson]-esque in his personality. He competes on the defensive end and rebounds ferociously. But hes not going to walk in and take over. Is [Zion] going to fix the Knicks? I dont think so. Is he going to even do what Luca Doncic has done? I dont know.

Do the Knicks have the cap space already to sign a max contract?

On top of everyone? Or do we need to deal Lee to get to that space?

It depends on who it is. Durant can get a higher max than, Kemba, I think - for example. I think for KD, they'd need to move Lee or Hardaway. With Kemba, I think they can do it just by renouncing the FAs (including Zo, now) and waiving Lance.

Dennis Smith Jr. trade rumors: Knicks and Mavs have discussed a Smith Jr. and Wes Matthews swap in exchange for Tim Hardaway, Jr. & Frank Ntilikina.

And Hardaway likely costs draft picks (and more than a first rounder), which they aren't going to want to give up. So Lee is the weakest link who they'll try to move then, right?

So, they'll likely just wait to see if they can move Lee for nothing and worst case attach a second or two if they have to?

Don't you have to say yes in 2 seconds just to get THJ's contract out of town?

I really don't want to give up Frank.

What's the deal with Dennis Smith?

I have a hard time believing that this wouldn't cost a future protected first or a couple of seconds. Matthews is prob nearly as good if not better than THJ and is an expiring.

but from what I read and hear, this is a very thin draft, with a potentially big talent gap after Zion, Barrett and Morant. If true, I wouldn't want KP winning us a few extra games that take us to 4th or 5th. From recent articles on Morant, interest in Kyrie could fade a bit if the Knicks were to get him. (link)
