Why the Giants WILL sign Daryl Williams in FA: - No $ invested in O-line besides Solder - PFF No. 2 RT in 2017, injured in 2018 - Gettleman connection (drafted him in Rd. 4) - CAR has dead cap tied to LT Kalil + Moton on the roster for cheap + $ tied up in OG Turne Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) 1/10/19, 12:18 PM This is the realistic part. The Panthers have already invested a ton of $$ in their O-line. Reports suggest Williams will move on. He was a top-5 ELITE OT in 2017. Injured in 2018. Gettleman found him in Rd. 4 w/ CAR. Giants only have O-line $ tied up with Solder Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) 1/10/19, 12:37 PM They will only have cap space for one big contract, if any. If the Giants sign Williams, that will be all. Their best move will be to then AVOID quick-hit signings (like Stewart, Omameh) and play the second wave of FA (like Michael Thomas, Latimer. No cap space to do all this |

at a good OL that was picked in the 4th round in 2015 coming off his rookie contract.
In fact, make this our marquee signing by using up all our money.
Great way to rebuild a roster...
I hear what you are saying and generally agree. But where the player was drafted seems inconsequential to me.
I’d rather use cap dollars on a proven edge rusher like Dee Ford. I’m not sure he gets out of KC, but I think he’d be worth the chase up to a point. And Sutton runs a 3-4.
Dee Ford has only had one really good year and you’re gonna have to pay him Vernon money at a minimum.

Wait, why would he get Vernon money if he’s only had one good year?
Plaxico Burress
Antonio Pierce
Kareem McKenzie (A RT, btw)

Because someone will pay it.

Not for one good year they won’t. But he’s had more than one good year so he might...

What good years has he had? He’s been a disappointment until this year.
Vernon only really had one good year when we gave him that money. Pass rushers get paid.

He had 10 sacks two years ago. That’s double digit sacks in two of the last three years with an injury mixed in. He’s showing what he’s cable of this year and in this game. He will deservedly get paid well..

Yawn.
He’s played like an elite pass rusher this year. That’s why he will get paid. You make it seem like he’s been Von Miller the last 5 years.
I’d rather some other team make that 20 mil a year gamble.

I want to build a relatively young & healthy line that can evolve into a sturdy, physical unit...
I would sign the best RT we can get. At Center I would go with Halapio, Evan Brown, and whatever else we add in the draft or the 2nd wave of FA. I feel good about Shurmur's take on Centers. I would bring Jamon Brown back as well. We don't want to have to fix what isn't broken again after letting Fluker walk.
This. Williams isn't the only fish in the sea... Even if it's more like a pond of + talent, we can easily upgrade from Wheeler and at OC. I'm in to keep Brown if it's a prove it deal.

He will average at least 17 and the highest paid RT right now averages 11.
Mack averages 23.5. Miller averages 19. Ansah, Vernon, etc avg 17.
Let another team take that risk.
If James becomes available, l could imagine either he or Williams at RT. Probably depends on the price tag.
Has Williams been more consistent than James recently?
He's better than a majority of the guys out there and his podcast is great. Have you read anything or listened to anything from the nj.com guys? It's fucking attrocious.
He’s one of the few reporters out there I pay attention to
