And the Chargers will be playing outside in weather that will feel like in the high teens with the slight wind...
On the other side, Gronk is not Gronk.....if they can cover White sneaking out of the backfield, and take away Edelman, it could be a long afternoon for the Pats.....
This is one of those games, where it could be a blowout, by either team, depending on how the ball bounces....

I'd expect it from a nerdy type guy who was picked last for gym class and now is a good announcer but not a former pro player.
On the 2nd down play? If so I agree and don't know why they call that all year long (except when it happens to us) and then they let it slide on such an easy to see penalty.
It wasn't like it was in a crowd, there was nothing else for the ref to be watching.
It looks like DB's are trying to pass off coverages and no one is picking them up. Whatever their defensive game plan was today, they need to burn it and figure something else out ASAP.
RE: The Chargers secondary looks legitimately lost Â
Belichick has them. He knows he can carve up their zone with Edelman and the backs on offense and they're able to get to Rivers on defense. Not that I was confident in the Chargers pulling off the upset but I was expecting a close game. I'll die on the Pats aren't the same hill though, I'll be fading them vs the Chiefs next week.
Solder's replacement is destroying that DL....he is a free agent next year, and I don't thinks even the Pats will be able to sign him, the way he has played this season...
Is it just me or do there seem to be a lot of veiled shots.... Â

Doesn’t matter, they could pick up a bum off the street and he will be fine. Seriosuly how they turn out guys is unreal. Then they leave and most suck
loved calling defensive secondary penalties in the regular season. I know this isn't his crew, but those calls led to two TD's
It is not like they weren't there. They were penalties.
Just wondering why they didn't call the Pats when Rivers got flattened on the delay of game penalty - whistle had been blown for a while.
They missed at least one blatant one on a Pats DB and that's where I have a problem. Either call them or don't but it has to be the same way for both teams.
there is a common thread to all these games so far, lack of entertainment. Not one I have looked at has been close and the difference between good and bad is on full display. Having a second week to game plan I guess helps but my word this stuff is boring, unless of course you love the Pats.
Fast fact: The Patriots scored a touchdown on each of their first four drives, which no team has done in the playoffs since the Colts in the 2003 wild-card round against the Broncos (41-10 Indy win).
Like he’s done his whole career. He’s either barking at opponents or crying to the refs and his teammates. Total bitch loser

Didn't see it. Again, the ones they called were legit and they should have called the Pats for the roughing the passer on that delay of game play. And that is why Rivers is bitching.
When a team is winning, no one cares about the extra stuff.
Look at how much dirt came out on Antonio Brown the second the Steelers missed the playoffs.
This is the first time in 5 years that PIT has been out. Not a coincidence that a laundry list of shit on AB came out right when the season ended for them.
It's the same deal with Beckham. When the team loses and sucks, everyone keys in on every little thing he does. Celebrations, sideline antics... whatever.. and makes a big deal out of it.
People suddenly stop caring about that stuff when you're winning games. Winning players are "fiery," losing players are "crybabies" or "throwing tantrums."

The Chargers are a really good football team and the Pats are making them look like Arizona.
The difference is BB has his teams in the playoffs every single year for almost 20 years now. Alot easier to trust a BB than a DG at this point in time.

... if this showing continues in the 2nd half and the score gets even more lopsided, do the Chargers fire their coach?
They fired Schottenheimer for 14-2.
Fire Lynn for getting blown out in New England? The Schottenheimer thing was a power struggle. Not for losing in the playoffs (though Marty did lose a lot in the playoffs).

I def fire the def coordinator. This is embarrassing for this team.
They get the bye and home field for an easy win over a Bolts team that’s traveled almost 7,000 miles in the past three weeks. They make their own luck and they never beat themselves. Just unbelievable.

Or everyone else in football is just stupid. How long have the Pats been drafting last or nearly last yet they remain stronger than the rest of the division which regularly drafts in the top 10.

RE: RE: The excuse making for Rivers never ceases to amaze me Â
lots of fantasy stats, never wins the big one, whiny bitch.
Yet the announcers are sympathizing with how it’s the rest of his teams fault
You make it sound as though that is unreasonable in this case.
Not directing this at you per se...but simple fact is, when the Chargers suck it’s everyone’s fault but Rivers.
When the Giants defense, OL, receivers, anyone else sucks - to a lot of media, fans, and plenty of posters here it’s still all Eli’s fault.
Good grief - all you have to do is go back to the Giants last playoff game when they got blown out in GB. The blame was all heaped on OBJ and the boat. Literally none to Eli (nor should there have been).
It's post-season games like this that make it hard to move on from Eli. The brain trust watches a game like this and says, "You know Eli loves these games..."
Finding the next QB after Eli is so dependent on a feeling of how they show up in big moments.
No matter our special teams statistics and how favorable they may be, I will always fear committing a mistake like that in a big spot until we have completely rinsed every trace of Tom Quinn from the special teams unit.
The sad truth is Eli's basically had two careers. The first half was great, the second half has been a complete disaster. Nothing Rivers does changes that.
Haha. I’m just trying to point out that I wasn’t using Rivers to prop up Eli , I was having an argument at work with someone on the Hall of Fame and I use playoff records to defend Eli on the hall of fame argument.
So calling me pathetic for that is... I don’t know. Childish
The sad truth is Eli's basically had two careers. The first half was great, the second half has been a complete disaster. Nothing Rivers does changes that.
just keeps rolling as long as Belichick and Brady are at the helm. They actually haven't drafted better than anyone else, but these two seem to be able to win with anyone.
No matter our special teams statistics and how favorable they may be, I will always fear committing a mistake like that in a big spot until we have completely rinsed every trace of Tom Quinn from the special teams unit.
Just so I'm clear, a returner fumbling a punt is a coach's fault! Do we blame OC's for dropped passes and DC's for missed tackles too?

the rabbit hole of Eli vs. Rivers, nobody really explains the elephant in the room that is Rivers missing the playoffs 7 out of 8 years.
When Eli does it, it is like he's on the team as a legacy frat pledge. When Rivers finally gets a team around him and they make the playoffs, it is like he's been the same guy all along.

Every team that’s won so far this weekend has utilized that formula.
game, NE has beaten the far out of SD on both lines of scrimmage. Rivers had no chance today. This is why Gettleman will continue to build the lines. He wants the Giants to be able to play like this.
and remained that way ...NE tough place to play but
they let Brady walk right down the field on the opening
drive and they never were in the game Team wasn't prepared
today there was no fight in this team today .
With Brady at the helm they just replace vets with vets
find pass rushers get the most out of every player.
It's a great culture it begins and Ends with BB but
when you have a QB like Brady who has managed to stay
healthy and BB has squeezed every last drop out of Brady
and the team . I think the Chiefs will dismantle them .
What bothers me the most is the fact that the Eagle and Cowboy fans are all giddy with the anticipation that Eli plays another 16 games for the Giants. I hope we can win the division and stick it in their ass next year.
Looks like the Dolphins will have to wait at least one more week to Â

I still don’t get the obsession over Eli playing or not next year. If a better solution comes along, great. But if they don’t fix the OL and DL it won’t matter who our QB is.

While trying to research this I ran into another interesting Stat. Kerry Collins has beaten every single team in the NFL at least once except for the Miami Dolphins.
Here's the top QB's that have beaten Brady multiple times:
4 Peyton Manning
3 Jake Plummer
3 Drew Brees
3 Eli Manning
3 Mark Sanchez
2 Ben Roethlisberger
2 Chad Pennington
2 Jay Fiedler
2 Brian Griese.
I think Eli is the only one on that list to beat Brady at home
Let’s bring up either quote after the game

Looked to me like he got raped and held on every step he took.
Watching Pats advance in the AFC year after year has become just awful for this sport...

Look closer. He initiates and gives as much if not more than he gets, yet never gets called for it.
Hit him in the hands and McCourty never touched it. Have to come down with that football.
and one in the world is surprised....this could be a rout.
Now he's hurt. :/
FUUUUUUUUCK
They're not in SD anymore and we're like 10 minutes into the game.
Relax.
Um you ok? Relax
Nice job by Rivers back on that 3rd and long conversion putting ball out there well in advance of safety help.

Crazy right? They get all these critical games at home too.
It is amazing, it’s been 18 years of this. Incredible
I mean look at that there's not a CB in 5 yards of the WR due to a soft zone. Bradley is too wedded to his system. The Patriots have seen it a ton.
Chargers needs to get in his face before this half is over...

Head scratching.. Dorset Edelman and Hogan are there wideouts and somehow they move the ball all over what’s supposed to be a talented LA defense
This is exactly why.
I truly believe Belichick throws regular season games to get his guys attention.
Game planning for Brady is just a tad different than Lamar Jackson...
It's Gus Bradley playing the same system he's been playing for more than a decade. You can't do that against the Patriots.
The weird thing is that the Patriots don't have that much at receiver, going man to man should be the default especially on 3rd and long.

You don't say?
Still doesn't answer why WRs are open on every play.
The drinking has begun for me....if the Eagles fucking win, I'll go nuts.
Don't feel bad, neither do they.
There's an even better quote by Tyson that accurately describes what the Pats are doing to the Chargers but I won't post it here.
All good with DirecTV

Perhaps this result isn't a complete shocker.
Pats took the ball to start the game with the sole intention of wearing out the Chargers defense from the start and run about 70 to 80 plays.
They succeeded.
Rivers clearly frustrated, understandably so.

For his run the ball, stop the run, rush the passer mantra but that’s exactly how the Pats are destroying the Chargers.
The Chargers are a really good football team and the Pats are making them look like Arizona.
The difference is BB has his teams in the playoffs every single year for almost 20 years now. Alot easier to trust a BB than a DG at this point in time.
He’s also had a team in the worst division in football for 20 years. That doesn’t tarnish the accomplishment, but I’m not sure there has been any other division in football where 3 of 4 teams are so consistently bad year in and year out.

Again, not taking anything away...the most amazingly well run team ever
The Pats are about culture first. Buy in, or someone will replace you, period.
Talent matters, but it's not the number one thing.

lots of fantasy stats, never wins the big one, whiny bitch.
Rivers - 6 appearances 5 wins 6 losses
I have people tell me Rivers should be in the HoF, and Eli should not.

That's too rich lol

Good grief - all you have to do is go back to the Giants last playoff game when they got blown out in GB. The blame was all heaped on OBJ and the boat. Literally none to Eli (nor should there have been).

This is assuming the Chargers lose this game today
Finding the next QB after Eli is so dependent on a feeling of how they show up in big moments.
Are you talking to me?
No matter our special teams statistics and how favorable they may be, I will always fear committing a mistake like that in a big spot until we have completely rinsed every trace of Tom Quinn from the special teams unit.

Using Rivers to prop up Eli is pathetic.

Not just you. People do it all the time.

Childish

That’s not what I was doing though
Uh, what? Same draft class and trade. The comparisons are inevitable and perfectly fine.

Just so I'm clear, a returner fumbling a punt is a coach's fault! Do we blame OC's for dropped passes and DC's for missed tackles too?

Regardless, the merits of DG’s comments have proven to be valid.
The Pats are the only team in the league that do it, really.

There are 2 glaring differences in the numbers
Rivers has thrown way less interceptions, something like 175 vs 240
And Eli has been way better in the post season
Games payed, yards, TDs. All similar.

And none of it changes what Eli's career has been for the last 7 years.
I get why the comps are made, but it's not like Eli comes out looking good.
When Eli does it, it is like he's on the team as a legacy frat pledge. When Rivers finally gets a team around him and they make the playoffs, it is like he's been the same guy all along.

Every team that’s won so far this weekend has utilized that formula.

His two rings and Super Bowl MVPs would disagree.
I'm not. And it's not close.

Actually, he does. Unlike Jackson last week...and Rivers today....
I'm not. And it's not close.
I'm absolutely keeping Eli, no doubt. I would never give those titles back.
I think it's just sad what has happened with Eli. I never thought it would go this way.
they let Brady walk right down the field on the opening
drive and they never were in the game Team wasn't prepared
today there was no fight in this team today .
B & B are the best ever and it's not even close.
Get ready to see Andy R. Get outcoached again next week.
I still don’t get the obsession over Eli playing or not next year. If a better solution comes along, great. But if they don’t fix the OL and DL it won’t matter who our QB is.

I would state confidently that Lombardi’s Packers were..:)
Cmon Terps, you know that's one of the big go to moves of Big Blue Insecurity
Let the Eagles lose today.
Then hopefully we can see Brady lose next week.
He will do that next week and try and take away Hill and Kelce.
He will do that next week and try and take away Hill and Kelce.
It's going to be incredibly interesting to see what BB comes up with.
I think Brady & BB are 1-3 lifetime in KC. So there are some demons...
...the greatest NFL coach of all time.
And there's not a close second.
Thank you George Young.

Roethlisberger and Rivers combined... 1 to 0.
I wonder how many QB's have more wins over Brady period than Manning.

While trying to research this I ran into another interesting Stat. Kerry Collins has beaten every single team in the NFL at least once except for the Miami Dolphins.
Here's the top QB's that have beaten Brady multiple times:
4 Peyton Manning
3 Jake Plummer
3 Drew Brees
3 Eli Manning
3 Mark Sanchez
2 Ben Roethlisberger
2 Chad Pennington
2 Jay Fiedler
2 Brian Griese.
I think Eli is the only one on that list to beat Brady at home
