"Snacks was a pain in the butt in the lockerroom."
Interesting.....it's been speculated here but never saw official confirmation. You don't unload a monster like that for a 5th unless there is something behind the scenes.
Interesting comment that I'll almost completely discount based on the source.
Doesn't mean he was respected or universally loved. The history of sports is littered with great athletes who were douches. That said, never having been around the man, I can't say for sure, but it seems to be a prevailing thought.
He led by example only . The biggest red flag to me was
when he started swinging his helmet at Will Hernandez
who had lost his helmet in the scuffle to me that
bordered on lunatic . I get it's as tough a sport as it
gets and emotions run high but that was frightening to
see that happen to anyone let alone a teammate . Think you
have to have a loose screw somewhere to even think that way .
That defense was special that season . It was our offense
that let us down starting with that dumb trip to south beach
That team had a chance to win it all IMO .

Exactly. DG gave up on the season at 1-7 and then the team surprised by by going 4-4. Probably would have been 6-2 with Snacks and Apple. So now people spin to give other reasons why the trades were made.
I have no problem with DG making the trades. But own it. And I mean that for the fans and media, as well as the team
RE: RE: RE: was the lockeroom issue during his complete time here Â
Bart Scott was never in the locker room with Snacks under Shurmur.
not my question, let's make it simple. was Snacks a locker room problem with Shurmer and MacAdoo and his entire time here?
Bart Scott was the ONLY one who mentioned this so far. So, how can anyone else answer your question? Also, why would anyone here know if this is basically the first time we are hearing about it?
Not really sure how you expect anyone to answer your question.
with this defense......there was no clear cut leader.....Snacks did not want to be the guy....so be it....
But even with him gone, there STILL IS NO LEADER ON DEFENSE.....
If this team wanted to win, to help create a winning mentality, why do you trade a guy that will definitely weaken your defense if you want to win? At 4.5M, the guy was a bargain this year? Was it attitude? Knees? or both?
Looking back, the Giants have rid themselves of their 3rd through 8th salary cap players.....
DG has supposedly cleaned the roster this past season......now he has to fill the roster this year with playahs.....
I’ve also heard him say he was a “grump” in the locker room Â
And you definitely saw that in his interviews at the end. When snacks first signed he was a funny upbeat guy but at the end he seemed pissed off all the time at least in interviews
RE: He was named defensive MVP by his teammates. Â

Maybe he got sick of losing.
If you follow Snacks on Twitter, this won’t come as a surprise Â

I'm amazed at how much better Apple got after he was traded.

My main problem with DG this year was he seemed to be committed to neither win now or rebuild. If you're win now fine dump Apple who's immature but keep Snacks. If you're rebuilding dump Snacks but keep a guy like Apple who has talent and played well as a rookie One of the luxuries of not being in win now mode is you can wait on a guy like that.

It hasn't been all roses - he's been picked on in a few games and is still having trouble keeping from clutching and grabbing at WR's in coverage.

The fact he was well respected in the locker room could be considered part of the problem. You don’t want younger players following the lead of a guy who’s not always rowing in the same direction as the coach and management, especially when you’re trying to rebuild a culture that had become a losing one.
Another example is DRC - there was chatter he was prone to doing his own thing, and they let him go in part bc they didn’t want younger guys following his example.
Some of the insiders here have commented previously about Snacks being a locker room malcontent...and Chris Canty made cryptic comments mid-season about expecting more trades after the Apple trade.
Point is, while none of us were actually in the locker room, it kind of lines up about Snacks

Yup. Influential guys who aren't about team need to go. Same reason JPP was traded IMO. Gettleman did his internal audit and these were the results.
I also find it interesting no team was willing to give up more than a 5th for Snacks. Sounds like nobody was chomping at the bit to add this guy to their team. Everyone's a known commodity inside league circles.
RE: RE: RE: He was named defensive MVP by his teammates. Â

That is false..
He made one or two nice place on national TV. He did that here too. I saw the same horrible play. The clutching and grabbing. The horrible footwork at the line of scrimmage and lack of ball awareness as usual.
Didn't he miss some events in camp/pre-season without explanation? Not a huge deal on it's own, but then you have the incident where he swung a helmet at Hernandez along with some of these comments, and his own make him seem like a bit of a mercurial guy that can rub people the wrong way. Given his limited role, maybe not worth it for NYG in the locker room.
Didn't Bart Scott also say Jonathan Stewart was a locker room mole for DG without providing any proof whatsoever? This is why I just laugh whenever Bart Scott has an opinion.
As much is I, as a fan, I need to give up on any season Â
this together with Gettleman's post-season comments.
This doesn’t shock me. Remember his “I don’t want to be a leader” comments from last season? Always went out of his way to say he didn’t want to lead.
Hell of a player but a losing player
I don't think a player not wanting to be a leader equates to a 'losing' player. Burress was nothing close to a leader, and they won with him getting fined and disciplined left and right behind the scenes. It's not just choir boys that win.

Plax came from the Steelers, Snacks came from the Jets.
Sorta rest my case on that one.

Actually, what I was referring to was the fans reaction of horror that a DB as great as Apple was traded for next to nothing. Everybody wanted him shipped out of town on a garbage truck, but when they got rid of him some people acted like it was such a terrible thing to do.

And Snacks played and earned his way from Undrafted free agent from a nowhere non-football school to elite 3-4 NT.
There's nothing 'Jets' about that.
Agree with those that indicate it was about the young guys. Â
Banged-up veteran bringing a dark cloud into the building every day and taking snaps away from the guys who need to be evaluated in the current process.
A couple of playoff teams we've been watching the past two weekends could have used a motivated Snacks on first and second down. How he ended up on the Lions always seemed to me an indication that there was more there than just being great at taking on double teams and stuffing the run.
Scott just talk about how Providence is a shithole and that they have the most vile people on the planet?
One former Jet said the other day that opposing teams staying in Providence before a playoff game have to endure fire alarms getting pulled throughout the night, people on blowhorns yelling outside of the hotels and bystanders cursing players. Said he'd like to punch a bunch of their residents in the face.
Then again, he called it "New Providence", so maybe he was talking about a different city.
I wish they could have gotten a 4th round pick or an extra late round pick for him, but he was no great loss for an aging 2-down player.
A player I liked....but he never seemed to be bothered losing. He was a happy guy.
Bart Scott was never in the locker room with Snacks under Shurmur.

Being that there was a mutiny against McAdoo Snacks must’ve been at least a small part of that.

Harrison seemed to become disgruntled around year 2 in the McaDoof era.
