This is how superstitions are reinforced

I hate the Eagles more than any other team, but have a couple good friends and some brothers-in-law who are big fans and really good guys.

My son gets Sports Illustrated (it was given as a gift years ago, person who gave it to him hasn't paid for it since, but it just keeps coming for some reason). It usually ends up in the recycling bin without even being read, but I saved the issues before and after the Super Bowl last year for one of my BILs. He was really psyched when I gave them to him over the summer, so when the latest issue came this week with Foles on the cover - "AGAIN?" - I put it to the side to save for him.

Watching the game today, Eagles up 14-0, and Foles was 8-9 with a TD (plus a rushing TD), and I was a bit upset. I went into the kitchen to get a drink and saw the magazine on the counter. I opened a drawer under it and there was little box of nails. On an impulse, I took one out and was about to poke a little hole right in Foles' head, but then decided that would be a little too mean. So I put one through his throwing arm and another in his leg.

Went back in the family room and the Saints scored. Next drive, Foles threw an interception to Lattimore and you know what happens from there.

Yes, I know it's stupid, but I'm going to take credit anyway. Haha.
You're welcome, fellow Giants fans.

I'll share the credit, though, if you let us know how you contributed.
Some may call you crazy

But let me say...

Thank you!
Good story. There's no need to analyze it for significance.

Everyone here knows just how you felt.
OK to take nails out now.
Giant John : 1/13/2019 10:57 pm : link
Then use them again the next time he plays against the Giants. Or whenever you want him to lose. Has to be the same nails.
LOL
God bless you, jhibb

And keep those nails handy.
It's called the "voodoo doll" imitation ...

I remember the first time I went to New Orleans (1970).

Myself and a bunch of my fellow "drunk on Ripple" friends stumbled into a shop on Bourbon Street. I'd never been to a place like that (I thought it was a gift store). I was looking for some post cards and couldn't find any ...

Then I saw the dolls and chicken bones hanging from the ceiling. Another one of my fellow drunken idiots knocked some thing off the shelf. Then the witch behind the counter started yelling and scared us right out the door.
I love you...

Now if you wrote that you put the nails through Alshon Jeffrey's hands, I would be impressed.
Clearly you haven’t tried this gift of yours out

over the last decade or so during Eagles-Giants games...
In 2000, When the Giants were 7-4, they won their next game.

I had a TV guide I was about to toss, when they won their next game. So I left the TV guide where it was for the next 4 straight wins (5 in total), through the playoffs and though the XXXV debacle.

I thought this was going a different direction....

In 2011 after the Giants beat the Packers in the divisional round SI had Nicks on the cover in the end zone I think doing the Heisman pose. And the title read something like “At it Again??” I thought you were worried SI was trying to will them to another Lombardi.
If..

you go to New Orleans and drink "Ripple", you pretty much miss the gloriousness of a Hurricane.

Ripple should be drunk out of a paper bag on the subway.

Hey, I could only go with what SI gave me.
:)

(but yeah, that would actually freak me out a bit if that had happened)

he must be really relieved that he'll soon be handicapped as opposed to dead.

I'm sure he would like to meet you in person and thank you for your thoughtfulness. ;)

Not gonna lie, the thought went through my head. And that by saving the issue in such good (unpierced) condition, I was actually helping SI and the Eagles.

It's so stupid how that kind of stuff even enters your mind as a legit thought - even if only for a moment before you think about how ridiculous it is. But putting the holes in it still felt good, and it "worked."

Ha! No doubt. I keep hearing from the Eagles fans about how good a guy Foles is (Wentz, too). He'll obviously recognize the same in me, especially when he hears about what could have happened.

I'm not sure I would take that meeting, LOL.
