Longest Drive (time) in post season history

upstatenyg : 1/14/2019 10:04 am
A lot of talk on Saints 3rd quarter nearly 12 minute, 117 yard drive. Brees and offensive talked about it being a turning point for them.

Interesting:

This was the SECOND longest drive in terms of time off clock in NFL post season history.

THE FIRST?
2000 NFC Champ game, Giants/Vikings ran over 12.30 minutes and resulted in no points.

This was in the 4th quarter, and Jason Garrett made his post season debut as the QB for the Giants when the rested Collins after being ahead 41 points.

117 yards?

Wasn't it more? Felt like there was 3 holding penalties and the Saints kept running the same 20 yard in-cut to Michael Thomas for 22 yards on the next play.
That drive

vs. the Vikings was amazing. Both teams just wanted to get off the field, for very different reasons.
Notable difference

The Eagles were actually trying. Minnesota quit in that game after the Comella TD that made it 14-0, they wanted nothing to do with it.
Wait a minute!!

I have to defer to mudbear and his recollection of the famous drive to open the 3rd quarter in the SB against the Bills.

It was the drive that took 18 minutes off the clock, where OJ Anderson ran for 75 yards on 25 plays and we salted the game away then and there!!
those 13 straight carries by OJ

were quite impressive. If only that team had a play-action WR like Toomer to take advantage of the D.
how exactly do you drive 117 yards....

......???

Did they start from the stands?

9 minutes, 29 second drive, that 75-yard drive. Super Bowl record.

LOL...are we making up new stats?

It still goes as a drive of 90 some yards, correct?
We had a 9 minute 54 second 16 play drive....

to open Super Bowl 42 that ended in a Tynes FG with 5:06 left in the first quarter.
That drive set the tone for the game.
that is what i would have thought

Brees referred to as a 117 yard drive, I guess because he is the offensive leader.

22 plays, 4 penalties.

A total bogus Holding Call

on the Saints and a TD called back for another holding call (which was legit).

92 yards, yes. They did gain 117 yards in total offense on the drive though.

Salted the game away? That game came down to a missed field goal as time expired.

Clearly sarcasm. I think it's an inside joke with mudbear, who probably misremembered the details at some point and overestimated how long the drive actually was. FatMan, am I warm?
