NFT: IT question regarding phishing attempts

tbonfig : 1/14/2019 4:54 pm
Quick question:

I use a malware/antivirus protection called Bitdefender which provides me with a box that funnels all traffic and alerts me of any issues when using my devices or visiting different sites.

I was just on a site that I have used before and it blocked it and advised there was a phishing attempt on the site.

If I wanted to continue to use this site, is it possible to just block the phishing attempt but still have access to the site?

Unfortunately, the phishing attempt was labeled as such: privacythreat.passwordstealer.http, so I do not really want to mess around.

The Bitdefender box allows you to put "exceptions" in place to bypass the security, which I usually do when the alert is for a spam attempt.

Thanks in advance.
I suppose you could probably "use" the site

But avoid entering any information whatsoever when prompted, especially any login credentials.
I don't know how Bitdefender works

There may be something you can do to have it assess the threat level, see if it's a false positive, and add the site to some global whitelist they use or something.

How are you accessing the site? Through a link of some sort, or are you directly entering the URL? Can you verify that the URL for the page you wind up at is EXACTLY as it should be?

I am accessing it through a link in my bookmarks page, but regardless I am using chrome and the URL appears to be correct.

Thanks for the initial response santacruzom

I ended up using https to log in and I no longer receive the alert!

Thanks for your help
Hmmm that's interesting

Does it basically present that warning to any site if you try to access it using http instead of https (though most will automatically change to https)? Not a bad thing to warn against even if it isn't simply a phishing-related activity.
