Stunner: The #Colts are letting OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo go, sources say. That line made tremendous leaps this season. But Frank Reich wants his own guy. DeGuglielmo was the only offensive coach Josh McDaniels had hired. Reich is actually recommending him to other coaches.
Giants are familiar with him
Anakim : 1/15/2019 11:11 am : link
He was a coach here under Coughlin
He’d be a great hire but I highly doubt they make a move
Strahan91 : 1/15/2019 11:12 am : link
.
We know the Giants won’t land him
Ssanders9816 : 1/15/2019 11:13 am : link
Probably won’t even go after him. Shurmur wants his guys
I wonder if this was planned...
bradshaw44 : 1/15/2019 11:13 am : link
Or a result of the poor performance in the playoff game.
Wait a sec...

...McDaniels was there long enough to hire somebody??

Odds are it was planned. Sounds like he got hosed when McDaniels backed out and Reich inherited the staff. So they decided to be professional and work together but go their separate ways, particularly if Reich is giving him recommendations.

Indy's O-Line allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL this season
I don't see us making a change

The consensus is this OL's limitations are personnel and talent-related, not poor coaching. It's remarkable how much more effective we became at handling DL stunts once we upgraded the RG position to a professional-caliber player, paired with a RT who knew his assignments and hustled, despite being physically limited.

If we can upgrade the RT position this offseason, and if Halapio is as advertised (this staff seems to love him) I suspect we'll be singing a different tune about this OL a year from now.

Googs will catch on with another staff, for sure.
Really shows how much
McNally's_Nuts : 1/15/2019 11:19 am : link
of a snake McDaniels is.

That guy burned every bridge in the NFL besides the Pats. I hope he flames out in spectacular fashion.
wants his own guy?
bluepepper : 1/15/2019 11:23 am : link
I think if I am a HC and the OL improved as much as this one did I'd consider the OL coach to now be one of my own guys.

I'm pretty sure the entire defensive staff was his - he left quite a few guys in the lurch.
Giants should hire him immediately
Rflairr : 1/15/2019 11:28 am : link
.
I would prefer Bill Callahan
Jay on the Island : 1/15/2019 11:52 am : link
But Deguglielmo would be a good addition as well.
If I remember correctly
moespree : 1/15/2019 11:55 am : link
Reich did pretty good by those guys. I believe the Colts said they would honor the contracts regardless but gave him the option to not retain the guys McDaniels had hired but he kept most if not all because eh wasn't sure most would get another job so late in the process.

Makes sense that now a year later he can go with some of his own people and let these other guys have time to find another job.

Ditto Ditto Ditto.

Who gives a shi* about this "my" guy, "his" guy stupidity?! If I guy is a great or good coach, then he IS my guy.
so McDaniel gets partial credit....
BillKo : 1/15/2019 12:42 pm : link
...for the Colts' great year? He put together a pretty good staff lol.....

If I'm Reich, I keep the OL guy around simply because they played/improved under this coach and they're protecting the most important asset the franchise has - Luck.
Might be more to the story
GF1080 : 1/15/2019 12:59 pm : link
There was the whole Denzell Good situation, OL who asked for his release because DeGuglelmo told him that he would never play another down for him. This happened right after Good came back from leave of absence due to his brother's murder.
I wonder if one could keep Hunter
idiotsavant : 1/15/2019 1:05 pm : link
And use this guy to train up the newbs on technique. Make up a title and pay the man?

I'm aware of that.
GF, didn't see that, don't follow this stuff

But I tend to take third or fourth party reports with the attitude of;

- that I wasn't there in person, it's actually very hard to know what went down or didn't.

They have an assistant OL coach in title already.
Him
GoDeep13 : 1/15/2019 2:05 pm : link
And the Steelers RB coach that was let go would be at the top of my list for potential coaching interviews.

I thought one of the issues was that he had hired the entire staff before backing out. The joke was Reich was a backup QB as a player and now he was a backup coach.
