NFT: Chromebooks for Streaming

VTDAD : 1/15/2019 6:00 pm
A little background... I'm a Mac guy... have an iPad, Mini and my wife uses a powerbook. Worked as an IT sysadmin 10 years ago. Mac only, very little experience with MS or Linux.

I'd like something with a little larger display for web, email and video streaming than my iPad. A larger, lighted keyboard would be a plus. Being able to plug in a USB CD/DVD or external stick would be helpful.

How do chromebooks work for ESPN, Netflix, Prime? I'm retired, so rarely do WP, SS or any kind that stuff.

Any advice would be appreciated

TIA
I stream on my chromebook no problem

Chromebooks are absolutely fine for streaming

the app store on it is a tad annoying but if you stay in browser you're fine (although unless they've fixed it, it'll render Netflix in 720p like Chrome does)

The app store doesn't differentiate between android phones apps and chromebook apps so if for instance you put the facebook app on, it's the phone version which doesn't handle widescreens very well.
They are very good for

Youtube, streaming & any online/cloud based activity sans gaming.

Get an intel processor & the most memory you can get (8gig+ ideal)- Enjoy.

She's been using it for 2 years for exactly what you want to do. It's worked great for her. I haven't had to clean up viruses/malware etc like I do for all my relatives' windows machines and it didn't cost half what a Mac product would have.
