Harbaugh offers 7th grade QB scholarship to Michigan in 2024

Canton : 1/16/2019 12:15 am

Quote:
Isaiah Marshall, a seventh-grade quarterback at MacArthur Academy in Southfield, Michigan, has been offered a scholarship to play at Michigan, according to his father, Brian.

Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh extended the offer after watching tape of the 13-year-old signal-caller while visiting the school searching for high school prospects at Southfield High. Brian Marshall coaches running backs along with his brother, Aaron, who also is the offensive coordinator at Southfield.

Awful mechanics. Worse pocket presence. Noodle arm and completely inaccurate. Disappointed his team in the U11 Super Bowl against the Lansing Lancers.

Typical reach by Harbaugh.
Ehh, he throws like a 13 year old

Tower over over their opponents, I guess you will throw 51 touchdown passes. But he does have an arm.
do kids really throw that much in 7th grade?
Jerz44 : 1/16/2019 5:58 am : link
when i was young, we ran the ball 95% of the time cause we just weren't good enough really to have a passing game.

the kid throws a nice ball, but Harbaugh should prob also offer that WR a scholarship too
What, noone wants to tank until 2027?

Isn’t this the second time he’s done this?
bradshaw44 : 1/16/2019 6:35 am : link
Or was it someone else that just offered a sixth grader a scholarship?

USC offered David sills a scholarship around 7th grade. Turned out be a pretty good WR.

Thanks Dep. Somehow I remember it being more recent. Did time go by so fast that the kid is already in college??
it's pretty clear that he is academically prepared

for Michigan. What a joke D1 sports are with regard to the academic mission. Michigan should be ashamed.
Do same nonsense in D1 Hockey
jpetuch : 1/16/2019 7:51 am : link
Kids never played against players 2-3 years older and stronger. They have to go to juniors first but get a pass due to commit then most don’t pan out . It’s really just the free education.
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't
JCin332 : 1/16/2019 8:39 am : link
these offers (and commitments by the players for that matter) non binding until their junior years...??
This kind of nonsense is actually fairly common in D-I lax recruiting

So much wrong with that its absurd....

Simplest thing to do is mark down the name Isiah Lawrence and check back in six years.
I never understand the rules and how this is legal
Bill L : 1/16/2019 8:53 am : link
When we were going through the recruiting process, I don't think coaches were allowed to even talk to you until your senior year.
Rutgers offered Josh McKenzie in 8th grade

He's now going to Yale. It's not like they can sign a LOI at that age, it's all a gimmick.
This is like one of those creepy soccer stories
Deejboy : 1/16/2019 9:36 am : link
where some big foreign club offers a 5 year old a contract. Well 9 years old in this case.

Freddy Adu was 14 when he signed in MLS and was suppose to make soccer as popular as the NFL in the U.S. Then promptly did nothing and bounced around the world.

And none of it is binding. Brennan O'Neill, probably the best HS lax player in the country and now a junior, had verbally committed to Penn State since 8th grade (when he led Long Island in points [!]) but recently switched to Duke.

Of course it's not binding
Canton : 1/16/2019 12:48 pm : link
These are scholarship "offers" and before he becomes a senior he will have multiple offers.

At that time is when they choose who they want to be with.

In club lacrosse, try 9 and 10 year olds. I've seen them.

How about scouting reports for 8-9 year old hockey players? Everyone and anyone with the slighest experience in youth/high school sports is looking to cash in too.

pinning my opponent while he was in control. This happens by accident from time to time but this was no accident. I initiated it and that is very rare. The referee was the wrestling coach at Rutgers and he talked to me after the team match was over and than talked to my dad. My dad thought I was going to be offered a scholarship but I am not sure this was the case. I developed Epilepsy and never got to wrestle in high school, much less college so that point became moot. I still to this day sometimes wonder if I was that good. A whole lot can change from 7th grade to your college years, I hope it all works out for this kid.

Indeed, especially girl's lacrosse.

My son is a baseball player and we know kids who were just entering their freshman year in high school and received verbal offers (which the school can obviously pull back later).

UVA is getting two kids my son has played against for years - Jake Berry (P, 6'8", Va) and Alex Green (OF/P, 6'3", MD). These guys were offered their spots in the summer of 2016 and they were absolute studs. Still are..

Side note - I was at a pro workout and saw Greene get timed at 96 MPH from a throw from right field to third base and home. I swear I could hear the ball whistling as it come in on a line.
Not saying I agree with it
USAF NYG Fan : 1/16/2019 5:21 pm : link
but the reason they make these offers is to show interest early on. It can possibly give them a leg up when it comes time for them to legally accept an offer. If you think about it, this kid will probably start watching more Michigan football and being noticed by someone like Harbaugh as a 7th grader can leave a lasting impression.
