From our friends at Great Blue North Draft Report.
While a "future" QB is an obvious need, I see GBN has Josh Allen (OLB; Kentucky) ranked 8th. If he's still on the Board at 6, I hope the Giants declare, "Thou shall not pass."
Im never one of those draft dorks who jump up and down about trading down as though its just that easy. And I know this isnt a mock, but if we can trade down and still comfortably get the best OL in the draft, that wouldnt be terrible.
without worrying about how they're ranked among each other, Â
there are 4 blue chip players in this draft. Bosa, Quinnen Williams, Oliver, and White. I don't put Haskins in this class mainly because of the experience. But I think had he played another year as a starter, he'd be in the discussion for #1 overall.
Afternoon guys: Less than 100 days to go until the draft! And thanks for the plug MS; we can use all the plugs we can get.
Interesting comments: A couple of comments in response. Jay, what we try and do with the GBN top 100 is as best as we can reflect what a typical NFL board looks like these days based on what we are seeing, hearing, sensing from the NFL rather than present how we have players graded ourselves. And what we are hearing in that Josh Allen is a hot guy right now so we may have him rated a tad lower than where he actually is.
And truth be told we really like Allen for the Giants at #6 and don't want to give him too many props but we really fear that the Niners at #2 or the Jets at #3 take him when all is said and done. Of course that means that somebody else falls but I just don't see anyone who else who is the same kind of fit.
On the other hand we hear that NFL teams likely have Devin White rated a little lower than some fans. He has decent size and good speed and athleticism, but the sense is that he isn't all that instinctive and tends to guess a lot and jump into gaps where he makes the play if that's the way its going, but doesn't shed all that well and struggles to recover when he guesses wrong. What we are hearing for example is that Pittsburgh is really interested in him at #20 which may be a hint.
It also appears that some of theose 2nd tier offensive linemen are dropping, not so much because their grade is down but others are up especially in the early part of the 2nd round.
from a Giants perspective I do not see the Giants trying to force anything again this year, but it also seems pretty clear from what they have been doing and saying is that they will head into the process with two priorities: 1) finding a young QB and 2) upgrading the pass rush.
Personnaly I don't see the Giants taking a QB with the 6th pick. Here's the problem. If either or both Haskins and/or Murray are legit values at #6, then in all likelihood other teams will be jumping the Giants to take them in the top 5. It is simply what happens with the top-rated QBs. and if the ain't worth the 6th pick it is highly unlikely we take one there. Bottom line is that it is very likely that if the Giants are interested in either Haskins or Murray they may very well have to trade up to get their guy. Again its simply the way the draft works. Of course, the Giants could wait until 2020 but you will have the same situation. The top guys are going to be going in the first 4-5 picks because that's where they go and if the Giants want one, unless the bottom absolutely falls out next year, they will have to trade up.
It will be fascinating to see if any teams really covet Murray. Â
Isnt a possible that this year presents a unique scenario. The first is that it has been sandwiched between 2 great QB years. 4 teams grabbed QBs last year and several seem lining up for next years Tua, Fromm, Herbert class.
The Giants are the 1st team that "needs" a QB. Perhaps the Raiders, Bucs will but doesn't seem likely.
With the trade up we are looking at Jags, Broncos, Dolphins. It appears as if Dolphins are angling toward 2020 and Jags are angling toward free agent trade of Foles, Flacco, etc
That leaves Denver in a 2 QB draft or a much further trade up like Redskins.
The problem as always is that the top tier is gone by then and it requires a really big trade up like a 2020 first. Its a top heavy defensive class which virtually everyone needs.
Haskins/Murray represent high risk factors due to inexperience/height/baseball concerns that might make trading up next years 1 in a big QB draft very cost prohibitive
I see it as very possible of not likely that Murray and/or Haskins both there at 6
Im more skeptical of Giants interest in taking one than in one actually being there
Watching him run away from Georgia DBs blew my mind.
So many needs on D and Oline, but sure would be nice.

White is a better LB than Haskins is a QB. I'm usually only interested in OLBs who can rush - with high picks
But White is a great prospect and perhaps worth the stretch at #6.
