Favorite under the radar 2019 draft prospect?

BlueLou'sBack : 1/16/2019 11:15 pm
from looking at a few QBs - Lock, Jones, and Grier to this point - I've noticed one WR with some particular tools (mosttly the ability to get separation, deep or otherwise) who doesn't generate much buzz. He's Missouri's Emmanuel Hall. He is a senior and will be at the Senior Bowl together with his QB from Mizzou, Drew Lock. While the most passes he's caught in any one year are only 37, and in a pass oriented offense at Mizzou, his strengths are a quick release at the LOS then getting deep and scoring long touchdowns. To whit, combining his Jr and Sr year stat totals, the sum is 70 rec for 1645 yards; that 23.2 YPC and -wait for it - 14 TDs! 14 TDs in 70 catches, or a TD every 5 receptions. That's just silly.

He's also supposedly a sick athlete with extreme hops and all around Track and Field skills, was an AAU junior champ at the Pentathlon event, a state high jump champ, etc etc.

Here's an excerpt of his profile linked below:

"Separation Quickness – Explosive mover who can alter his course in the blink of an eye. Capable of pressing vertically and then snapping off his route underneath to create separation. Feet are explosive into his breaks and possesses the extra gear to separate late in the rep. Burst is evident off the line of scrimmage and at the top of his routes."

Lately I've seen him evaluated in the 150-200 region of all prospects on 2 different big boards, so I'm imagining him as a 4-5th round target. If he blows up the combine, and he might among what appears to be an entire draft full of tall but not the speediest WRs, I guess he could jump up a round or 3. He's 6'2"+ and 195# and should jump high and long in those combine events. Runs a 4.4n 40.

Right now he's my "sleeper" if a mid round guy can fairly be called such. A bigger, less productive version of Mario Manningham at the college level.
Emanuel Hall WR Mizzou - ( New Window )
This guy isn't necessarily under the radar

but I think a name that may rise up draft boards during these next couple months and potentially be in play at #6 is Brian Burns. He may be the best athlete out of all the top edge rushers.

David Sills from WV. I don’t know where he is “projected” to go but he strikes me as just a big dude that can play football. I really think he could have a good NFL career, even though he isn’t the fastest guy out there.
Two WRs...

that I saw one time each, so not a great sample.

Andy Isabella of UMass and Anthony Johnson of Buffalo.

I saw Isabella light up Georgia with great quickness and speed; and Johnson seemed to be the go-to for Tyree Jackson, made some tough catches in traffic with good body size and showed some decent YAC.
Julian Blackmon

CB from Utah. Good size and some talent. Mid-round prospect.

Nasir Adderley, CB/S from Delaware. Could be a steal in the mid-rounds.

Terrill Hanks, OLB New Mexico St.
Jordan Ellis

RB/UVA

Although with his performance in Shrine practices he likely won’t be under the radar much longer

I like Sills too. One of those guys that had a scholarship in middle school.

Also LilJordan Humphrey, WR from Texas.

Adderly is fairly well known. I’ve seen some projections that have him in the first round.
QB Tyree Jackson

The only QB's that I like that are projected to go in rounds 1-3 are Haskins, Murray, and Jackson. Tyree Jackson is very raw but he has a huge upside. If Jackson is on the board in round 3 I would like to see them trade up for him.

Another player that will probably go in round 3 is Renell Wren. Scouts say that Wren has a very quick first step and he could play either the 5 technique or NT position. 3-4 DE might be his best position though because of his explosive first step. His versatility would be a valuable addition to the defense as a rotational DL if he doesn't win a starting spot right away.
OLB Andrew Van Ginkel

Was a JC transfer. Sat out a year and the Badgers had terrific OLBs so hard to break in. Really flashed when he did, as in last year's Orange Bowl.

This year he was slowed down by injuries (including, I believe, that 'high ankle sprain' nemesis.

Smart, Athletic with a great motor. If he gets invited to the combine I think his measurables will be impressive. I also expect lots of scouts to be at UW's pro day -- so I expect him to climb at least to day 2.
Some of my sleepers (potential Day 3 guys) off the top of my head:

Is another WR that I liked when I saw him play. There are a lot of Day 3 WR's who I think will be contributors out of this draft although not necessarily starters. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on one with one of our picks then.
Easton Stick, QB NDSU

Can't say I know much about him but his highlights are pretty impressive. Good enough size (6'2), above average arm, and a very effective runner.
