from looking at a few QBs - Lock, Jones, and Grier to this point - I've noticed one WR with some particular tools (mosttly the ability to get separation, deep or otherwise) who doesn't generate much buzz. He's Missouri's Emmanuel Hall. He is a senior and will be at the Senior Bowl together with his QB from Mizzou, Drew Lock. While the most passes he's caught in any one year are only 37, and in a pass oriented offense at Mizzou, his strengths are a quick release at the LOS then getting deep and scoring long touchdowns. To whit, combining his Jr and Sr year stat totals, the sum is 70 rec for 1645 yards; that 23.2 YPC and -wait for it - 14 TDs! 14 TDs in 70 catches, or a TD every 5 receptions. That's just silly.
He's also supposedly a sick athlete with extreme hops and all around Track and Field skills, was an AAU junior champ at the Pentathlon event, a state high jump champ, etc etc.
Here's an excerpt of his profile linked below:
"Separation Quickness – Explosive mover who can alter his course in the blink of an eye. Capable of pressing vertically and then snapping off his route underneath to create separation. Feet are explosive into his breaks and possesses the extra gear to separate late in the rep. Burst is evident off the line of scrimmage and at the top of his routes."
Lately I've seen him evaluated in the 150-200 region of all prospects on 2 different big boards, so I'm imagining him as a 4-5th round target. If he blows up the combine, and he might among what appears to be an entire draft full of tall but not the speediest WRs, I guess he could jump up a round or 3. He's 6'2"+ and 195# and should jump high and long in those combine events. Runs a 4.4n 40.
Right now he's my "sleeper" if a mid round guy can fairly be called such. A bigger, less productive version of Mario Manningham at the college level.
Emanuel Hall WR Mizzou - (
New Window )
Andy Isabella of UMass and Anthony Johnson of Buffalo.
I saw Isabella light up Georgia with great quickness and speed; and Johnson seemed to be the go-to for Tyree Jackson, made some tough catches in traffic with good body size and showed some decent YAC.
Nasir Adderley, CB/S from Delaware. Could be a steal in the mid-rounds.
Terrill Hanks, OLB New Mexico St.
Although with his performance in Shrine practices he likely won’t be under the radar much longer
I like Sills too. One of those guys that had a scholarship in middle school.
Also LilJordan Humphrey, WR from Texas.
Nasir Adderley, CB/S from Delaware. Could be a steal in the mid-rounds.
Terrill Hanks, OLB New Mexico St.
Adderly is fairly well known. I’ve seen some projections that have him in the first round.
Another player that will probably go in round 3 is Renell Wren. Scouts say that Wren has a very quick first step and he could play either the 5 technique or NT position. 3-4 DE might be his best position though because of his explosive first step. His versatility would be a valuable addition to the defense as a rotational DL if he doesn't win a starting spot right away.
This year he was slowed down by injuries (including, I believe, that 'high ankle sprain' nemesis.
Smart, Athletic with a great motor. If he gets invited to the combine I think his measurables will be impressive. I also expect lots of scouts to be at UW's pro day -- so I expect him to climb at least to day 2.
