NFT: Google Chrome questions for a slow day...

Mike in St. Louis : 1/17/2019 11:40 am
any Google Chrome experts out there? I use a mixture of IE and Chrome (and some Firefox) but it look like more and more sites are no longer supporting IE...I know I am behind the curve by continuing to use IE but it's what I am used to...

anyway, switching over to Chrome has caused me some issues...

first, while I have a gmail account, I don't use it much and instead mostly use my work e-mail...however, since Chrome and gmail are Google programs, Chrome is tied by default to my gmail account...whenever I want to e-mail a link, it is automatically sent from the gmail account...I want to have links sent from my work e-mail (which is a company domain/address)...is there any way to change this? I've Googled it and can't figure it out...it's probably an easy fix...

second, Chrome uses bookmarks instead of favorites...when you make a site a favorite in IE, it gets added to a list you can access by clicking on a link...however, in Chrome, anything I bookmark is simply added to the bookmark bar, which is getting too crowded, instead of to a list...

any help would be appreciated...thanks
I think people are still trying to get over the initial shock

Isn’t it Microsoft edge now? Haha
I have no idea what you mean about the emailing links

But right click on the bookmarks bar and you can create folders and then drag the bookmarks into them. That should clean up your bookmarks bar.
Regarding the bookmark bar in Chrome, you can put a folder in the bar.

For example one of my bookmarks in Chrome is a folder called Sports, which has all of my sports links. I have subfolders in it for football basketball and baseball.
If you look in the browser

settings there is no "default email program"?

I think that's where you'd change it to Outlook or whatever you use from gmail. I'd be surprised if there isn't a way to do that at the browser level.

this google search looks like maybe it will help

thanks for the folder tip...

seems a bit clumsy but it did clear up my bookmarks bar...

as for the links question, I am talking about e-mailing someone a link to the page/site you are on...there is a blue symbol in the upper right corner of any page you visit while on Chrome...if you hover over it, it says "email link"...but when I click on it, it automatically opens my gmail address...I want to change that default e-mail program to a different e-mail address...

unfortunately, no...those are the instructions I found when I Googled the question my self...problem is I don't have a "manage handlers" option... when I click on "content settings, " I only find "handlers"...when I click on that, I only get one option - "allow sites to ask to become default handlers for protocols (recommended)"...

when I slide that button to off, I just get a setting "Do not allow any site to handle protocols"...
can't find any "manage handlers" link or section...

Chrome's top menu ...

... has a selection for "Bookmark Manager." It makes it pretty easy to organize your bookmarks. I don't find it as handy as the one in Firefox, which is the browser I mostly use. But I think it has all the same capabilites. That includes placing your most used bookmarks - or folders with bookmarks - in a "Bookmarks Bar" that always displays across the top of the window or file them in "Other Bookmarks" which is a master folder over on the upper right of the window.
OK, I did it...

kept playing around on Chrome...those directions must be out of date...

I went into "settings" and then "extensions"...there's a "send link by email or gmail" option...opened that up and under "extension options," I unchecked "gmail" and checked "other email options"...

IE is much easier to maneuver and change...of course, it no longer works most of the time...
