You are all very welcome!

I'm 30 years old and remember I watched this VHS every day after coming home from school.
1990 Giants - ( New Window )
Great find! I watched that a million times, too.

music is fantastic, it gives me chills.
Don't get me wrong Bob Papa is superb and a great listen

but there was something special about listening to Jim Gordon calling a game. Brings back such great memories of my childhood into early adulthood of football Sundays.
2nd best of the Giants championship videos
Matt in SGS : 1/17/2019 1:00 pm : link
the 1986 one is still the best IMO. I didn't like the 2007 and 2011 ones. A nice problem to have ;)

Yea always loved the Harry Kallas opening with the music in the background. Really summed up that season so well in like a minute or 2.

I know you are a busy man, but I'd love for you to do one of your video break downs of the 2006 Giants/Eagles came where they came back at the Linc.

I was a trinket store, I think it was 5 and below in Clifton on route 3 but I found a Giants bottle opener in which every time you cracked open a bottle it would give Jim Gordon's call of the Norwood missed field goal.

Kicking myself that I never bought it.

I practically wore that VHS tape out.
My favorite team of all time...

That was a second to none, great year.
Giants Among Men was my favorite year in review video

Not in the least because Pat Summerall did it.

Will do, it's on the list. I have about 4-5 in the works now so i'm hoping to get about 8 or so new ones before training camp. That's my goal.

Is this the VHS that came with the SI subscription? If so, I wore the hell out of that tape.

Jim Gordon was outstanding

release the whole segment of Parcells miced up vs Miami .He was great in that along with Belichick .He was also miced up @ Philly in 1989 and vs the Steelers in pre season in 1988 and he has some classic lines in those too .Also the whole uncut LT segment vs the Jets in the 1985 pre season where he is going bananas on Micky Shuler .I would love to see everything that was shot for those segments

lol, I got the bottle opener at home... needs a new battery I played it so much...
This was when NFL Films was really great....

...they've lost a bit off their fastball since.

I still say it's NFL Films (highlights/music/narration) that really got me into the NFL as a kid.

Same for me, I thought his voice was second to none.

WNEW radio.

He got a little ahead of himself on plays and wasn't always accurate lol but so many great calls.........classic voice.
great tape, real football

those games would be ruined by today's rules and ref's.
This was my favorite Giants VHS
moespree : 1/17/2019 3:28 pm : link
I probably watched this at least 100 times if not more.
what I liked about this video
Matt in SGS : 1/17/2019 4:32 pm : link
and Giants Among Men (I have both in digital format to stream, if anyone wants them, let me know) was the way they presented it.

They intermixed the game highlights, with radio calls, and also broke to special features about individual players, team history, etc. The 2007 and 2011 ones seemed rushed to market and just were cut and paste jobs based on the This Week in the NFL clips of the week by week games. I think I watched the 2007 and 2011 ones maybe twice each. The 1986 and 1990 ones, I can say without hyperbole, I've seen hundreds of times.
Jim Gordon had a great voice
bluepepper : 1/17/2019 4:47 pm : link
but was pretty terrible at calling the game. Lots of describing plays after they happened.

Still he was a bit better than Papa who doesn't really have the voice IMO.

Yeah, the first thing that came to mind in reading these Jim Gordon posts was...

"Simms throooooooooooows..... complete if he's in"

I actually have this "song" on my gym playlist:). Only thing missing is the John Facenda narration. This may well be one of my favorite songs from back in the day, sure brings back great memories.
The Pony Soldiers - ( New Window )
NFL Films out out a CD called Power and the Glory
Rjanyg : 1/17/2019 6:40 pm : link
I own it and used to play it while my son and I played electric football!! Good times!

Also, I used to coach my sons football team. My wife would video tape every play of the season and make highlight videos, using the NFL Films music. It is so awesome! She made the season for those kids!

Giants Among Men I have seen maybe 200 times. I have 2 VHS copies and one on CD. Amazing video!

I love his voice and narration on all the old nfl stuff. Being from NEPA I used to listen to a lot of Phillies games too. Harry & whitey on the call for those games were great. Nothing today compares.
That Giants Pats game was the first NFL game I ever went
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/17/2019 8:11 pm : link
to with my old man, uncle, & a bunch of cousins. It must have been 90% Giant fans, no doubt in part to the Pats completely sucking that year. Also, that stadium was a complete dump.

Did you see me in 300+ section upper deck sunny side back in 1986?

A day that will live in infamy...

I was at this game as well. We barely beat the 1-14 Pats. I remember it was really warm for December 31st, like mid 50’s. The Giant fans took over the whole place, trucks driving around flying Giants flags. Crazy setting!

I remember Meggett scoring on a pass from Hoss. Hoss ran the ball a bunch. I believe it was called Sullivan Stadium at the time. I believe it was bench seating. Total dump!
Does anyone still have the VHS?
pizbo : 1/18/2019 7:46 pm : link
I have a VHS digital recorder and can get a much higher quality version uploaded.

I was at that game too! Met LT and Howard Cross in the parking lot after the game. What an amazing year! Holly cow I watched the shit out of this tape! Watching tonight I almost cried when I heard Dick Lynch, man oh man I still miss him on Sundays! What a great find and what a great treat to watch this again. I can’t believe the memories this brings back. My favorite Giants season of all time.

Thanks so much for posting!

And even though Sam Rosen has become synonymous with the Rangers, I still can clearly remember Jim Gordon and Phil Esposito doing the games when I was kid.
