NFT: Train from JFK to Midtown

nygfaninorlando : 1/17/2019 8:46 pm
Flying into JFK Saturday night about the time the snow is supposed to start falling. Wondering if taking the train to our hotel in midtown is a better option than uber or taxi? Has anyone ever done this? Is it a pain in the @#$? I'm assuming we will need to transfer somewhere? Any advice is appreciated.
It sucks but

with the way the weather looks it might not be a bad idea. I haven't done it in years but the A train is what you need. Check out the MTA website
If youre in midtown

Airtram to the E train.
Either the A train

But since you're staying in midtown, not TriBeCa, that will take a while especially during non peak hours ...

Or you take the AirTrain to Jamaica station and then hop on the LIRR which goes to penn station in midtown. Might be the better bet.

Your biggest issue of course will be hoping your flight into JFK isn't significantly delayed !! Good luck.

Go with the second option. Take the AirTrain to Jamaica station and the LIRR to Penn Station.

how much luggage

How much luggage are you going to have. Also how close to a train station is your hotel?
Not much luggage
nygfaninorlando : 1/17/2019 9:00 pm : link
probably a carryon rolling suitcase for both my wife and I along with a computer bag and purse. I believe the hotel has a subway station right across the street. We're staying on West 37th street.
Then AirTrain to Jamaica station to LIRR

Is the way to go. MSG is on 34th and broadway.

Just reiterating the advice here. Air train to Jamaica, then get on any LIRR train going to Penn. Very easy. Should be a quick walk to your hotel from Penn.
Thanks everyone

for the advice. Seems fairly straightforward, we’re going to give it a try. Fingers crossed our flight isn’t delayed from the snow storm.

MSG runs from 31st to 33rd streets.
Oh whatever
MetsAreBack : 1/17/2019 9:16 pm : link
There's an exit on 34th and 7th (which is actually an LIRR exit)

I wasn't trying to be a wise ass or anything, just wanted to be clear for someone coming from out of town.

Love the airtram
