Duggan The Athletic: Recapping a demolition: What happened to the players Giants GM Dave Gettleman let go this season

"Culture change" is a great thing to say when your win now plan ends up 5-11. Kennard, Okwara, Adams and Fluker were positive locker room guys. Not everything can fall under the "culture" umbrella. It's still an NFL team, not the Big Brothers program.”

“Gettleman made good moves and bad moves. But to excuse every personnel miss as "culture" is as silly as his explanation that the Omameh signing was more about "fixing the locker room" than on-field play.”

“I mean he cut Omameh so it’s not like his feelings were a mystery. He could just say obviously it didn’t work out rather than that silliness.”

It's funny how narratives take form. Eli Manning's 2018 is seen as one of the worst seasons while Case Keenum's 2017 is seen as a breakout
Case 2017: 67.6%, 21:7 TD:INT, 3,547 yds
Eli 2018: 66.0%, 21:11 TD:INT, 4,299 yds
You'll say "check downs" but Eli had a higher YP

And I'm not even for keeping Eli Manning or defending him or all the crap that comes with it on here...but I just think it's hilarious how we all get set in these narratives and sometimes when you dig a little deeper they look odd. Case also had Thielen, Diggs, Rudolph w/ CooK

NFL

Breer MMQB: Building a Winner: How the Rams’ Blueprint Stacks Up With the Saints, Patriots and Chiefs

“So what to take away? Three things I noticed:

One, more players on these rosters are landing there via trade or waiver claims than before. The 2015 quartet of Arizona, Carolina, Denver and New England had acquired a total of 18 of their players that way going into championship weekend. In 2016, that number dipped to 12 for the conference finalist. Last year, it was up to 26. This year, it’s 29. So these teams are working the waiver wire and trade market.

Two, there’s a huge gap in age at quarterback and in method of their acquisition. Brady is 41 and Brees is 40. Goff is 24 and Mahomes is 23. Brady and Brees came into the NFL as non-first-rounders, and Brees was allowed to hit the free-agent market by his drafting team (the Chargers) due to injury. Both Goff and Mahomes were traded up for in the Top 10. Conclusion? Quarterbacks don’t slip through the cracks much anymore.

Three, the investment in linemen, as we said, is noticeable. Take the five highest cap numbers on the rosters of the Chiefs, Rams and Saints, and 11 of those 15 players (including Houston, an on-ball linebacker) are linemen. And the Patriots spent three of their last four first-round picks on linemen, and have three offensive linemen on second contracts playing for trench wizard Dante Scarnecchia.”

Clark The Ringer: Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and the Era of the Forever QB
Patrick Mahomes II might win MVP but the NFL is still in a golden age of ageless quarterbacks. Players like Brees, Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Philip Rivers are getting better as they get older, and they show no signs of slowing down.

“So the NFL took a stance: When the Vikings play the Packers, ‘We are not interested in DeShone Kizer against Trevor Siemian,’” Hasselbeck said, referring to those teams’ backups. “They’ve said, ‘We don’t care if it is unfair to defensive players and the result has been that quarterbacks will get to play longer.’ Those guys, especially Brady and Brees, they could probably play until they are 45 if they really wanted to.”

There’s a theory, according to the people I spoke with, that Brady, Brees, Eli Manning, Rivers, Rodgers, and Roethlisberger benefited from coming into the league during a time of unlimited football education and practice time. These players have aged gracefully because halfway through their tenure, the grueling, physical practices they were accustomed to were virtually banned. Before the 2011 CBA, there were basically no limits on practice time, but now teams can have only 14 padded practices during the regular season. Hasselbeck called the practice restrictions an “absolute game-changer” for his health.

Defensive coordinators assume that they can’t blitz Brady or Brees because they’ve seen everything. Since they don’t face as many blitzes as they should, they stay healthier and perform better. Another way of avoiding contact is to get the ball out quickly. Roethlisberger, Brees, Eli Manning, and Brady all rank among the top 10 in the percentage of passes thrown in under 2.5 seconds, according to Pro Football Focus...”

Offensive line draft picks are never sexy, yet seven offensive tackles--Jonah Williams, Greg Little, Cody Ford, Yodny Cajuste, Jawaan Taylor, Dalton Risner and Andre Dillard--display first-round traits/ability. A couple may switch positions, but it's a talented group

Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL)
1/17/19, 9:44 AM
Interestingly enough, at least one of these tackles should be there at the Giants pick in Round 2. If multiple are there, it could be another no brainer for them ala Will Hernandez. They didn’t flinch when Will was on the board. Other needs too, but tough to pass on OT talent

Brent Sobleski (@brentsobleski)
1/17/19, 7:53 AM
All you have to do is look at the four teams still playing to see how valuable offensive line play is.

All four ranked top-nine in fewest sacks allow.

Saints: Second (20 sacks)
Pats: Third (21)
Chiefs: Fifth (26)
Rams: Ninth (33)

Brent Sobleski (@brentsobleski)
1/17/19, 7:55 AM
Rams had the same starting five all season.

Pats feature the game's best offensive interior.

Saints own the league's best tackle duo.

Chiefs' line has the game's best right tackle and a former No. 1 overall pick on the blind side
