I have been following the Giants religiously for over fifty years.
Have been a fan of Eli forever.
I loved Rosen in last years draft, and really like D. Jones this year.
I understand that drop back quarterbacks win super bowls.
Still, maybe its time to blow that all up and watch defenses try to
defend Barkley, Odell, Engram and Murray, all at the same time.
It may not work in the long run, but the concept makes an old man smile.
Then you come back down to reality and listen to some reasoning from a guy who understands a thing or two. I suggest you look up the recent interview of Plaxico Burress. He makes a lot of sense these days.
Makes sense to take advantage of the weapons we already have to go with a pocket QB who can sling it.
Could be fun. Nevertheless, I all in on insane D draft this year, mostly Fri t 7 and center field safeties, with Manning holding the fort.
That said, you want a running QB in 2020? Could be fun!
something of another kind (sui generis to you Latin types).
After watching Murray a few times, the same thought hit me. He may just be
the Saquan Barkley of quarterbacks (forgive me). Something of another kind
altogether.
In my mind, it is not close.
Murray is a nightmare to defend.
We have seen players similar to Haskins and Jones, and you can predict their upside. The same cannot be said about Murray. He has a unique skill set that sets him apart.
Perhaps he has the lowest floor, but his ceiling is the highest.
If the Giants do not draft Murray I would not draft any of the other QBs in the first round.
GM goes for an outstanding prospect at a position I wasn't targeting. Great talent. Cool.
But we continue to loose games. Putting the cart before the horse.
At some point one might want to finish the 2 trench projects, push those over the top and adress the long neglected lb position,.. get a starting FS ..
I am intrigued by Murray. I find it really interesting that Sy says he will not be picked in the top 25. He may be right, but we will wait to see. Heck, Murray may decide to pay baseball.
RG

and Beal turns out to be the real deal
The Giants should golden
That said, I am torn on how I feel about Murray. Something tells me he is not just going to have the stereotypical run first QB type career. I believe he is going to have to be the type of guy who needs to be utilized in a specific system, I doubt you just throw him into a regular pro style offense and he succeeds. His success will depend on the situation he is put in (I know that isn't a very original thought)...what I will go out on a limb and say is that his career won't be defined by an injury or injuries but rather his actual football success. He wil be successful if put in the right situation.
I don't see the Giants taking him. I see them going after a QB who more fits the pocket passer mold. Doesn't mean they won't take a guy who can run, just will be a guy who is clearly an in the pocket pass first guy....doesn't mean its this year they go after a passer either.
Give Me Mobility---extend plays to throw....pick up some easy yardage with an awareness to avoid contact.... take a single good step in the pocket
Another old fan with a smile on my face.
1) toss the rock
2) make plays under duress / cool under pressure
3) most importantly, go through reads and make good decisions - and shows improvement in this with more and more game experience.
Whether he can run or not makes little difference, I want him distributing a la Brady, Brees, Montana and Peyton Manning. With OBJ, SB, EE and even a B- level 2nd and 3rd wide outs, that's all you need. I like the FB Penny a bit too, and Ellison.
This is exactly the issue. Saquon is built like a brick shithouse, he can take the hits. Murrary could be sensational, but I can't believe it will last. Eventually, he will get hit hard and I just think he's too slight to last in the NFL.
Quote:
He will get killed. He will make some spectacular plays. Then he will get hurt. See RG III. Then where are you? Lauletta? No thank you, unless he is a slot receiver.

I forgot to add: given Gettleman's philosophy regarding hog mollies, I am pretty sure he will be thinking along the same lines regarding Murray.
And someone compared Haskins to Geno Smith. That scares me.
