to. He’s due $20M next year and they are already $12M over the projected cap. He can also buy out of next year if he wanted to. The guy will never have a higher value in UFA than now. Somebody will give him starter money.
but I wish there was a leak from Giants HQ claiming a desire to sign him. Not for any really intent, but just a plan of subterfuge. The Eagles would hate to see Nick leave for NY, and would do everything they could to control where Nick goes (anywhere but NY). If that forces the Eagles to franchise tag him, that would eat up their cap until they can orchestrate a tag/trade. The longer it takes - the better. Limiting the Eagles activity in the initial days of FA only helps us. If it ties up their cap while doing so, all the better.

I don’t agree. I’d say it’s more likely they understood they struck lightening in a bottle with him and that he isn’t a 16 game starter. I think they’d love it if the Giants or Skins signed him.
That comp pick won't come until next year's draft. If they were able to tag/trade to Jax for a third this year, then they get the immediate return in draft collateral and control where he goes.
IIRC Alex Smith has a cap number over 20 million next season. The Skins can't really afford to pay Foles 18+ million on top of that. I would love to see them break the bank on Foles but I doubt it happens.

Exactly. Smith will be Redskin for this year and likely next regardless if he ever plays again. With the signing bonus and the guaranteed salaries, they must carry him and his cap hit.

Ah let's try to flip the tables on the Eagles for leading to the MacAdoo era

Totally....agree. Giants get to spend a bunch of money on used goods and the Eagles wave goodbye to their super bowl hero with smiles on their faces because they know Foles landed on his feet.
If the Giants signed Nick Foles, it would be their version of the Jets sogbing Neil O'Donnell.
The Giants shouldn't even be a consideration. Not only do I highly doubt Foles would spit in the face of Philadelphia after becoming a legend there, but the Giants don't have the money to spend big on a QB. Too many holes all over the place to try and fill. Aside from that, he just isn't that good and likely won't do much once he does leave in free agency. Only way the Giants are getting a new QB this off-season would be through the draft.
"Eagles must exercise 2019 option 1 week after the Super Bowl
Foles has 5 days after the Eagles' decision to exercise. If he declines he must payback $2M of the 2018 bonus."
?
No surprise.

Redskins can not afford a FA QB. They have a ton of money guaranteed for injury to Smith. They will ride with Colt and a draft pick.
Probably a 3rd rounder

Not with Smith on their books

Yo the redskins are the perfect place for him

Not just 2019's salary, but 2020's salary is also guaranteed for injury.
alex smith's contract - ( New Window )
250 foot pole?
I read that they anticipate getting a 3rd round compensatory pick for losing him.
Because the cap hit would be enormous.
They can't.

I'm with you Jay. Coughlin will grab him. Veteran QB with Super Bowl experience and they can make it work money wise.

if they get nothing for him. Also takes away the safety net when Wentz gets injured again.

You realize that the Eagles have to lose more qualified free agents than they sign this year. No guarantees that happens.
Some team is going to Kirk Cousins their Cap w this guy. As long as it’s not the Giants good for him.

I think they would have to pick up his option and then Giles exercises his buyout. But I’m just guessing. Anybody know for sure?
